TOPIC | Choosing dragons to stay or go
Hi fellow FR players. c: I have stumbled -again- on a problem that might be familiar to many of you. I ran out of lair space. Now thing is, over the past two months, I have cleared out my lair of any unwanted dragons twice. I gave some away, sold some, exalted some. Now my lair is full again. I have space for 100 dragons. An expansion at this moment costs me 975kT. This is a huge amount for me, and I have been struggling to expand for a long time. Now I would love to use some pages in my lair to make money off. To breed pairs that are loved and start a hatchery, and to be able to buy some fodder hatchlings to train and exalt when they grow up.
However, if I look through my lair, it kind of feels like I want to keep almost all of my dragons? This obviously doesn't work and I would really love to have about two or two and a half pages of perma's that I could love and spoil and all give an outfit and a story. For 100 dragons however, that's undoable for me at this point. And I feel like in the end, I would feel much happier with having 30-40 dragons I really loved wearing my wishlist items and favorite skins/accents, than I am now with around 90 dragons I think are super pretty but don't have the time or treasure to get what they deserve.
So I would love any tips on how I choose out of dragons I all love. I kind of hate the idea of giving them away, and seeing them being exalted really quickly as a result. But some don't really sell, or they do sell, but at a low price which still results into them being exalted really fast. Or any tips on not getting attached to all dergs?
Also, my lair tends to fill up quickly after I sold dragons with new dragons I adore. Any tips on preventing this? Another thing I found out that takes a lot of space, are hatchlings from pairs that don't sell, so if I have a nest of four I sell two quickly, while one takes longer and one I'm stuck with forever and because they are so pretty I don't want to sell them for fodder price or exalt them. What do you guys do with beautiful kids that don't sell even after a week or two/three?

This post is getting kind of long, but what I really would like is any tips on how to choose which dragons to keep and which one to let go of.
Which one of my dragons would you definitely keep or get rid off?
Any tips on how to prevent my group of perma's from growing so fast they fill my whole lai?
Any tips on which kind of dragons are worth to keep as breeding pairs because they would probably sell and which are less succesfull?

And if anyone has a great idea about how to save up for expansions faster that would be great as well. Thank you for reading. c:

Well, @khaos101, try looking at the types of dragons. Like for example, maybe u have a ton of imps and close to no bogsneaks. Then, you should probably choose to get rid of some of the imps, as u have more of them. Also, try looking at dragons that have extremely similar colors. U could possibly discard one of those dragons. Also, u could ask some of ur friends to hold them for u until u have lair space.
I kinda get u because I have this problem too. Even tho I don't have that many dragons, I don't have a lot of lair space and gold, because I buy on impulse. U could buys some fodder and level it up, or u could start a raffle with some of your dragons
Just some ideas, so please do not get offended :)

@Khaos101 well I cant help much with the whole "too many dragons thing, I do feel you on how hard it can be to save up treasure. I've decided that my lair will consist purely of gen1 dragons, and therefore I now have to save up to buy all the gene/breed scrolls because I like torture apparently.

What I've been doing is maxing out the fairgrounds by playing Glimmer and Gloom, then I shove that 75kt into my vault and DON'T TOUCH IT! You can't buy dragons if you don't have money on hand XD

If you don't know how to play G&G, there are some fantastic guides out there (that I can't link to because I'm on mobile ugh). It might seem hard at first, but it gets really quick and easy with practice! I can max out the fairgrounds in 20 minutes or less :)

EDIT: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/2477115 is a great guide, super helpful

@Khaos101

Here's what works for me:
I absolutely love my dragons, but it's pretty obvious (or sometimes not) when I don't like one as much as another. Usually, to figure out which ones I'm not particularly fond of, I'll do a bit of a comparison. I adore Nymph, one of my lucky G1 hatches. She's probably the one dragon that isn't my progens that I can say I love most.

I'll choose a dragon and compare. For example, I'll use Sabre.
- Do I like Sabre as much as Nymph? Almost, but no.
- Does he have sentimental value? No.
- Is he stoned (which sometimes makes me hesitant to sell)? No.
- Is he gened (this may not be applicable to you; depends on if you have G1s or not)? Yes.
- Did I buy him for a high price and could this be making me hesitant? No, he was 30kT.

After this, I see if I can force myself to throw the dragon on the AH. Not for exalt price, but something at least somewhat reasonable. If I can, I usually feel way better after. I leave them up for a few days. That means I wasn't as attached as I thought. If I sit there staring at the AH page for awhile with the dragon sitting there, it means I value the dragon too much. It's a keeper.

As for filling your lair, what I do is sit and contemplate on a dragon for awhile. If it gets taken, so be it. It just means I keep my space. I try to control impulse buys, which sometimes happens. I try to only buy dragons that I absolutely adore. Not ones I like or think are really pretty, but ones that I can go back and keep staring at thinking, "I REALLY like this dragon!" These are the dragons that you'll truly like and keep for years.

For saving for expansions, I use my vault. I put in a small portion of what I get every day (unless something I need is super cheap) in the vault. My one rule is once it is in there, it never comes out except for what I'm saving for. For example, I recently put away things for an SD scroll. I wanted to take out of the vault at a point but, because I didn't, I got the scroll I needed in a short amount of time. Now I'm working on a WC scroll (hoo, boy).

Making rules for yourself and abiding by them can cause you to make a habit of it. It makes it really easy to save at that point, and the amount you put in doesn't need to be massive. I throw in 100kT /day (sometimes 50k or over 400k) on average, and I usually mindlessly throw TR in there just because. Not taking out of there has become a habit. I just don't touch it.

@Ggirl

Actually, I was thinking of doing grab bags with them which is kind of like a raffle as well. ^^ And I do have an awful lot of imps.. xD Thanks for the suggestions.

@StripedSweater
I tried that once, but was too lazy to practice. Maybe I will now though. Seems worth the effort if you can really do it in 20 minutes. Thanks for the guide. c:

@Lykos Thanks for the long answer. These questions are really useful. They make you think differently, make choosing more easy. I am definitely going to try using the vault. In the time I played, I used it a couple times, but really not often and I usually took it out fast again.

More suggestions/responses still welcome. c:

@Khaos101 i totally get this!!! what i normally do is similar to the others here - if it doesnt have sentimental/ID number/gen1 value and i got it for pretty cheap and didnt put any genes on it myself, even if its pretty if i dont LOVE it what ill do is train up to level 7 or 10, exalt it, and then link the exalted dragon in the bio of one of my permadragons (laohu, if you're interested in seeing what i mean) - that way if i ever regret it i could turn it into a breeding project and duplicate the dragon i miss because i have a record of it. that way you get some money from it, it's easier and faster than trying to sell on the AH or the forums, and if you have regrets there's the potential for a fun new project c:

edit: this especially applies to dragons with cheap double or triples bc in this era of the site, it's pretty easy to find a similar dragon ! most of my dragons are xyz so they could be a little more difficult to find, thus a breeding project if #ragrets happen, but so far i havent felt the urge to re-make one that i exalted

You can add other questions to ask, too. Anything that you think might keep you from getting rid of dragons you don't like as much as others. Sometimes it might surprise you what you'd be willing to get rid of and it certainly feels great once you've sifted through everything!

The vault can be very useful if you can create a habit and just forget about it when you're not putting anything into it. I did this unintentionally, but now I can stare at my vault funds and shrug it off even if there's something I want. Get used to something and it won't bother you at all eventually. Helps practice self control for those potential impulse buys. :)

@mrattus I actually really love the idea of keeping track of those exaltions in a book-of-honor like thing. It would make me feel better about it and not worry I could never get a dragon like it again. I think I am going to use that too. I don't think any dragon is impossible to remake.
