My lair has become such an overgrown mess that looking at it just kind of makes me depressed and I can't think of anything to do with it.

There are a couple of dragons I love, but I hate that I bred them, and part of me wants to just remake them in their own image.

I want to start doing lore, but there are just SO HECKING MANY DRAGONS and none of them seem... cohesive at all, and I keep getting in my own way.

Would it be really awful to just wipe everyone (except one or two that I like and haven't managed to mess up yet) and start over? I've already exalted/auctioned a bunch of my more foddery dragons and I'm starting to feel better, so I kind of want to keep going with that.

[quote]Would it be awful (...)?[/quote] No. It's your lair, your dragons, your decision. If you're feeling down because of how messy your lair is and you'd feel better starting over, then do it! Just be aware that exalting them all (save for one or two) will be permanent. However, exalting ties the dragons to your account. You can write down their IDs if you're feeling nostalgic. I do that with formerly permas that were pretty but had no place in my lair.

One of my fave dergs (my profile derg) is one of the ones that I absolutely hate that I bred, so I'd like to remake him, but that's looking pretty tough. Maybe I'll try to ignore that for now. But most of them need to go I think.

if you feel like your lair is messy, definitely purge! it's a rewarding feeling and even though i've only done partial lair purges (because i just love my children too much) it's still really great to do.

honestly, I feel you. I had no idea what I was doing when I played 2 years ago, so I came back to a bit of a mess and kind of wished I could just wipe the slate clean and start over (since I usually do that with video games when I come back to them, no matter how many hours I've sunken into the game). I did a bunch of reorganizing and got rid of dergs I didn't like as much and I'm feeling better now. Maybe do a big giveaway/raffle of dragons you don't like anymore so at least they might get a new home?

If you don't love your lair anymore, do it! The point of playing this game is to make you happy. Tastes change. I did a lair purge a couple months back, exalting dragons that I gened up or selling them for way way less than what the genes were worth. I got rid of one of my first 'pairs', a XXY chocolate coatl pair that I loved... past tense. (Well, I kept the male of that pair because he had cute lore)
I have yet to meet someone who did a lair purge and regretted it. It certainly would not be awful to remake your lair- it's something many players have done before and been happy with. Sell off dragons you don't like and get dergs that you do.

Thanks, all! I'm feeling... more optimistic now, I think. I'm trying to narrow it down to only the dergs I really love, or haven't gotten a chance to work with and see if I really love them yet. I'm down by two pages already, and life is so much better.

If you're not happy with your lair, yep, purge it. I recently got rid of all my non-fandragons, and my lair is much cleaner and much better. If you want to do other things with your lair like challenges or lore writing, go clean it.

And for dragons that don't fit but you like/don't want to exalt, you can wait for the hibernal den update! You can toss them in there.

You have 24 dragon... I am trying to deal with 100... but if you are unhappy.. then restart. Another thing is that lore does not have to follow one theme.. my lair has dragons of all kind, good and bad... the bad just hide it well...hehe

One thing that helped me love my lair again was finding people to share my dragons and lore with... I have a couple lire partners I talke to at least every other day.

Another is undress all, and try dressing only when you write lore. But your lair is small enough that a purge would not do much harm... I purge 20 dragons now and then...
