TOPIC | Why have a G1 only lair?
1 2 3 4
Unless you're ridiculously rich (or lucky, considering how few scrolls are left) you'll never be able to get imps, or your favourite colour combos (if they even exist as G1s) or Naomi descendants, etc. You're forever stuck with a few breeds (probably only a handful of 'claws if you can even afford the scroll) and whatever colours you can actually afford.
Don't get me wrong, I love G1s and have half my lair full of them, but I could never imagine getting rid of my non G1 permas (which I've seen some people do) just to replace them with G1s.
How do you afford it? Why did you make that decision? I'm not saying it's a bad choice, just wondering why you made it and how you deal with stuff like the imperial problem.

I mean I can't speak from experience because I have a multitude of non gen1s but I think some people like to have "Designer Lairs" lairs that are worth a whole lot and because of that they spend all of their money on fancy scrolls and genes to really up the anti

Not something thats for me I agree I love imps too much and xxx/xxy

I think that's kinda the point? It's almost like a symbol of status and dedication. They can drop 400g on an XXY (or whatever). They are patient enough to wait for their favorite color combo, or try to hatch it themselves.

Caught between the mundanely awkward and the existentially impossible.

For me, having a G1-only lair adds challenge to the game, almost? It keeps me interested. I've always got a project to work towards, there's always new projects to be had, and folks can see the effort put into my lair right off the bat. Plus there's the whole fun in hatching eggs.

As for the no imps thing, I'm not too torn up about it. I've actually built it into my clan's lore that my progen won't allow any more than one imp in the clan at a time (her home clan was taken out by an emperor, so she's taking no risks), so I'm still in the process of finding "The One" that'll stay in my lair. If it weren't for my restrictions, though, I'd have a ton of imperials all around my lair.

How do I afford it? I don't. I'm always out of dragon cash. G1s suck the treasure out of your wallet.

If I were lucky enough to hatch a triple spearmint , I would happily replace my non-genone perma etc. I'm not that lucky and I actually enjoy the colours , so I can understand both. I love genones and also you get some goal on this site , when you try for specific genone combos. Otherwise you don't have much to do here.

I kinda thought it's for the challenge of it all, like people who try to have a rainbow lair
Or a lair of all sunshine Tundras or something

It's a fun challenge. And I have found lots of color combos I love as gen 1s.

I'm not ridiculously rich. I don't have endless money. Most of my g1s have treasure genes (which I honestly do prefer in most cases). But it's fun. Gives the game more of a challenge to it like others have said. And it's like a treasure hunt; finding the perfect g1 and then geneing it up is a great feeling.
Unless you're ridiculously rich (or lucky, considering how few scrolls are left) you'll never be able to get imps
I think most G1 collectors expect that they'll probably never get a lair full of G1 imps, and make saving up for a G1 imp/scroll an endgame goal or something. I don't particularly need one, but years down the road if I'm still playing FR and have nothing else to save for, I'll probably go after a G1 imp or imp scroll too.
or your favourite colour combos (if they even exist as G1s) or Naomi descendants, etc.
With people hatching eggs regularly and all the mass hatches going on, finding an affordable G1 with a good colour combo isn't too hard anymore. Even if it's not the exact colours you're looking for, you can still get pretty close. I collect some G1 doubles so it's true that what I'm looking for either doesn't exist, or I have to wait months or years for the one I want to be hatched/auctioned.
You're forever stuck with a few breeds (probably only a handful of 'claws if you can even afford the scroll) and whatever colours you can actually afford.
I don't quite understand what you mean by this? Most breed scrolls cost treasure and are readily available in the MP or AH. Coatl and WC scrolls, while expensive, are also available. And like I mentioned above, there's lots of egg hatches and lair purges going on, and I get pinged to G1 sales/auctions every day. There's also tons of G1s with great colours on the AH that cost less than 100 gems.
but I could never imagine getting rid of my non G1 permas (which I've seen some people do) just to replace them with G1s.
Personally, I can replace most of my non-G1s with G1s because the main thing I got them for was their colours.
How do you afford it? Why did you make that decision?
I make money in various ways like having an adopt shop and such. The main reason I like having G1s is that they have no connection to any other dragon, and I like collecting G1 doubles for their rarity.
