but, as for a personal favorite of mine that isn't ridiculously expensive? i like the peacevine aardvark a lot:

You can get familiars for free occasionally when gathering for food, scavenging, or digging! If you're okay with spending a little treasure, Basilisks, Dryads, and Janustraps are all cool-looking familiars you can find for cheap on the auction house.
