nah, before I think it was similar to how Python/Morph drop. Regardless of the enemy you fought there was just a blanket random chance for an egg (of any element the venue dropped) to drop.
Now it's a random chance based on enemy element instead of just wholly random RNG.
So if you want a specific egg you can grind in a venue that has more enemies of that element. Although there's still no guarantee that you wont get an egg from the wrong elemental enemy lol.

Fought Sunset Lashers, got an Arcane egg. Are you really telling me that every single time I got a corresponding egg, it was just pure luck and coincidence?

Not every enemy had the chance to drop an egg before, and in a number of the older venues, there were some eggs missing from the loot tables entirely.
