just curious how other ppl go about breeding or not breeding their dergs! honestly it's my favorite part of the site, and i will breed anything and everything, including triple basics or g1s and not feel bad about it at all.
how do you guys play? breed for fodder only? breed to specifically make lore kids? choose not to breed certain dergs like g1s, certain lore dergs, etc.?

I breed pretty pairs that others might be interested in buying, and fodder pairs that aren't really special but still look half decent in case someone wants them for their colors or so they're still kinda salvageable if RNG decides to give me a rare eye type instead of my actual good pairs. oh, and breeding projects. most of the failures turn out to be fodder. like the most recent five nest I got! all wrong. it's been months. help
my g1s and lore dragons are not to be bred because they either don't have kids or because I don't feel like breaking canon to account for ugly babies

I actually breed none of my dragons! At least, none of my permas. I have 2 breeding projects going on, but once I get the dragons I'm wanting to breed, the parents are going straight to Glademom XD (or the AH maybe)
I don't know why I hate breeding my dergs exactly, I don't mind buying lightly bred dragons (tho I do prefer unbred ones), but a part of me is just really bothered when I know a derg has official offspring...
I had the terrible idea of making the ultimate wildclaw family tree. So I only breed dragons that are descendants of my progenitors, or somehow connected to that family tree one way or another.
It makes breeding projects incredibly long-winded.

I breed for the most possible outcomes I can get, which means each pair I set up has the widest color range I can get, different genes, and different breeds (though I try to keep the cooldowns the same so it's easier to keep track of when a pair is ready). I enjoy the oddball dragons, and you never know when a certain color combination will appeal to you!
Then I only breed about as long as the length of the offspring box. I try not to get scrollbars (unless I'm working on project dergs, then it doesn't matter how long the list is), but if I get a five-egg nest when I was already close to the bottom of the box with a pair it's no big deal that it goes over a little. I decided to do this way early on. I don't remember why, but I like the idea that my pairs will have a limited number of offspring before they're retired.
I keep my favorite female hatchling from each pair too. That way my bloodlines are sure to carry on even if all the rest of the babies get exalted.

Some stayed unbred for lore purposes, though, and if the list of the oldie I got was small and neat (or unbred altogether) I kept it like that, too.

I breed gem-gene dragons (which are usually my lore pairs, and I have a lot of those). I usually sell or give the hatchlings away depending on if I need the money. I haven't bred any of the dragons whose genes I don't like in a long time, which includes my progens. I LOVE it when my dergs have pretty kids with recent genes :D
