TOPIC | Dragon Magic, Based On Eye Type [Lore]

Dragons and numerous other creatures on Sornieth naturally possess magic. However, on the site itself, not much is seen of what dragon magic can actually do, besides the elemental attacks in the coliseum. This is a magic system I wrote, defining what each dragon is able to do. Different elements and different eyes rarities determine what power a dragon has. Higher level dragons are more powerful with their abilities, with level 1 dragons not having any training, and level 25 dragons being masters at their ability. [s]Each element has 4 possible powers, for Common, Uncommon, Unusual, and Rare eye types. For now, the special types don't have unique powers, but I might write some if there's enough demand. This list is by no means finished, so feel free to make suggestions for changes.[/s] Thanks to ideas from @TawnyOwl, the list is complete for all current eye types! Their contributions are in quotes. Their original post is here, and has some extra background info. The names for the different types are shown like this: Eye type / Mage name / Gem name What can your dragon's magic do? Pinglist for new updates: @BlueJaysFeather Multi-Gaze- Once thought to be only an odd mutation, it is now known that the magic of dragons with Multi-Gaze is different as well. Their magic has been diluted and is usually small and specific, but it makes all the difference in the right situation. Primal- Chosen at birth by the elemental deities, these dragons manifest their element so strongly it shows on their eyes as more than color. They are little more than weapons for war, able to call down elemental wrath upon the land, but are ostracized in time of peace for their frightening appearance. Many Primal dragons go blindfold, exchanging sight for the companionship of others. Faceted- Strange and unfamiliar, Faceted dragons are seen as creatures it's best not to approach. They frighten others with their lack of eye contact, and their powers are shattered, as odd as their visage. Perhaps it is only a chance mutation, perhaps it is something else... Glowing eyes grant the powers of all four standard eye types (Common, Uncommon, Unusual, and Rare. Edit: There are now two ways to classify eye types (besides just saying "I'm Light Unusual"): one that names each type of mage based on ability, and one that classifies them by different gemstones and minerals. (Two on the list are minerals that only exist in Sornieth.) The eye type charts are not mine, they're from the Visual Guide to Eye Types: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/2452354 If you know of some eye type images that are smaller, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction. Arcane Common / Enchanter / Quartz: These dragons' abilities would not be considered impressive alone, but they are used throughout Sornieth whenever magic is needed. They can manipulate magic itself, being able to sense it and its element, strengthen or block any other magic, and enchant objects to contain magical abilities. To enchant an object, another willing dragon who possesses the needed power is required. Alone, an Arcane Common dragon can only create magic-detecting, anti-magic, or magic-strengthening objects. Arcane Uncommon / Listener / Morganite These dragons are able to listen to the thoughts and emotions of others around them, but only what they are thinking and feeling at that moment. Arcane Unusual / Telepath / Fluorite: These dragons are able to delve into the minds of others, finding information through memories and knowledge. Arcane Rare / Mentalist / Spinel: These dragons are able to take hold of the will of another dragon, forcing them to do their bidding. Their mind-controlled servants will obey mental orders, but will remember what happened to them as soon as the spell ends. Arcane Faceted: These dragons can swap the minds of other dragons, as long as both are present. Luckily, they cannot do this with themselves. Hatchlings born with Arcane Faceted eyes are generally dumped in the nearest wilderness, which has led to a few cases of terrifying sorcerors raised by crystalline wolves and seeking vengeance on dragonkind. Chaos ensues. Arcane Multi-Gaze: These dragons can send messages across continents, able to telepathically speak to any dragon they've met before. Arcane Primal: These dragons can cause magic in targeted areas to spiral out of control. Spells become out of control, enchanted objects stop working or gain sentience, and wild animals (and sometimes dragons) go mad. Clans with heavy magic use are quickly reduced to chaos.
Dark Sclera These dragons can condense raw magic into a tangible form for a short time. Magic in this form behaves as a living creature, acting as a second attacker while the dragon can focus on other tactics. However, the magic being is wildly unpredictable, with so much power condensed into a small shape, and may not differentiate between friend and foe. Swirl These dragons can place another creature into a heightened state of awareness if they maintain eye contact. The dragon in this trance can sense what is happening around them to a much higher degree than normal. Goat These dragons have an uncanny ability to know exactly where to go, where to look, or who to talk to in order to find answers to what they want to know. Because this ability does not extend to coercing others to disclose said information, these dragons particularly enjoy teaming up with Swirl Light dragons to ensure they have access to what they want to know. Innocent These dragons can condense magic into runestones. While the runestones are usually decorative, these dragons are capable of making the magic inside them accessible, and they tend to keep a supply of these stones on them to access the magic in times of need.
Earth Common / Geomancer / Opal: These dragons can manipulate and shape stone, metal, and earth. They cannot change the properties of a material, but they can cause it to move and change its shape. Earth Uncommon / Stoneseer / Jasper:These dragons can sense the structure of their surroundings, even if their eyes are covered or there is a barrier in the way. They can learn to recognize different materials with this sense, and tell where objects are. Earth Unusual / Sculptor / Onyx: These dragons can transform objects from one material to another, or later the properties of a material. For example, they could turn a dragon to stone, or turn rocks to diamonds. Earth Rare / Stonescale / Obsidian: These dragons are nearly invulnerable, with unbreakable scales and bones, and enormous strength. They are nearly impossible to hurt. Earth Faceted: These dragons can faintly hear the history of an object- where and what it had once been, what it had been used for, who had it. This ability can be difficult to use; objects don't have senses, so listening through them can be odd, to say the least. Earth Multi-Gaze: These dragons can alter their own scales, such as making them harder or more slippery. They often serve as light sources in the caverns by making themselves glow. Earth Primal: These dragons can disturb the foundations of a targeted area, causing earthquakes, sinkholes, and the sudden formation of geysers. Buildings crumble on the unstable ground, and the best course of actions is to get out as quickly as possible.
Dark Sclera These dragons can summon the bones of long-dead creatures buried under the earth and animate them. These creatures are often much more dangerous than their living counterparts, and may even become an amalgamation of many different creatures if the bones were near each other. Swirl These dragons can put others to sleep if they make eye contact. They are incredibly useful in lairs with injured dragons or dragons suffering from nightmares or unable to fall asleep for some other reason. When going up against Swirl dragons, others go out of their way to avoid making eye contact. Goat These dragons have the ability to store information for an extended period of time, most likely their whole lives. Their long-term memory is remarkable, although this does not extend to the short-term. Trying to get one of these dragons to remember events or information from within the last few weeks is next to impossible. Innocent These dragons can break down and reshape minerals. Their creations are highly prized decorations as they can shape gems into forms no other dragon is capable of. When opposing these dragons, others should ensure to cover their nose, mouth, and even eyes, as to avoid ingesting clouds of toxic mineral particles.
Fire Common / Pyromancer / Topaz: These dragons can control fire, creating and controlling it. They can use it to great destructive effect, hurling spheres of flame and shaping blazing walls. Fire Uncommon / Firebearer / Amber: These dragons can resist all temperature changes with little to no ill effects, whether hot or cold. The most powerful can easily swim in magma or freezing water. Fire Unusual / Forgemaster / Agate: These dragons control temperature directly, and can quickly superheat small and precise areas. They are a force to be reckoned with in combat, and make stellar blacksmiths. Fire Rare / Sparklight / Foo's Eye: These dragons can bestow the spark of life to constructs and golems, and have been known to raise previously living beings if the body is not damaged. Fire Faceted: These dragons destroy objects around them when excited, angry, or just bored. Small objects blow apart with a sound like firecrackers, large ones shatter violently into chunks, and flammable ones tend to burst into flames and cause even more damage. Fire Multi-Gaze: These dragons can temporarily inhabit the bodies of creatures, and control them. However, their own body is left in a trance, and most dragons can resist the spell. Fire Primal: These dragons can start infernos and make temperatures soar in targeted areas. Flammable materials tend to catch fire, fires spread rapidly and cannot be extinguished, and enclosed areas become like furnaces.
Dark Sclera These dragons can alter the body temperature of another living being. The ability to shut down the bodies of their enemies or overheat them to deadly temperatures makes them a formidable foe, although to reach such extremes they must focus on a single target. Swirl These dragons have the ability to heighten the physical senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing) of others if they can maintain eye contact. They can focus on enhancing a single sense or all, although the effect diminishes the more it is spread across the senses. Goat These dragons are capable of coordinating large numbers of dragons. They make particularly effective commanders, as they can make sure armies (or even small groups) work together effectively, balancing their abilities and attacking in synchrony. Innocent These dragons can induce a subtle calming effect on those around them. However, if their temper flares while using this ability, the tempers of those under their spell do as well, and chaos can ensue.
Ice Common / Cryomancer / Diamond: These dragons can manipulate and create ice and frost. They can freeze liquids, cool areas, and use ice to attack their enemies. Ice Uncommon / Cursebinder / Pearl: These dragons cannot do much alone, but when helped by another magical creature or object, they can directly bind enchantments to dragons and living creatures. This ability is used to great effect to prevent prisoners from leaving, lest ice encase their limbs. Ice Unusual / Silencer / Celestine: These dragons can seemingly slow down the minds of creatures, and the procession of time itself. They can put others into a deep sleep, and preserve objects exactly as they are indefinitely. Some of them use their powers on themselves, and walk the night for centuries after, emotionless and undying. Ice Rare / Necromancer / Moonstone: These dragons are feared all over Sornieth, for their ability to raise the bodies of fallen creatures and command them. They can see through the eyes of their creations, which have no will of their own. Ice Faceted: These dragons can call back the ghosts of the dead to speak to, using their body or bones. Care must be taken- not all of those who are called back want to return. Ice Multi-Gaze: These dragons are able to tell in which direction an object or creature they've seen before is located. They can find lost objects- or escaped prisoners. Ice Primal: These dragons can send blizzards to targeted areas, dropping the temperature and burying lairs under mountains of frost. Heat will be difficult to find, and the cold gradually seeps into lairs to freeze any survivors inside.
Dark Sclera These dragons can alter the memories of other dragons, leaving them with gaps in their memory or remembering events differently than they happened. This can often have unintended results, however, as altering memories is a very complex procedure. Swirl These dragons can alter the emotions of others as long as they can maintain eye contact. Even after eye contact is broken, the affected creature will suffer from lingering traces of the altered emotion for a time, although it will usually wear off before long. Goat These dragons are able to glean nutrients from anything, so long as it isn't toxic. This means it is almost impossible for these dragons to starve, as they don't require food in the same way as other dragons, although they definitely prefer regular food and generally don't make a habit of eating "inedible" items unless necessary. Innocent These dragons can create and control frost and pride themselves on learning the control necessary to form beautiful, precise designs. Usually used in forms of art, this ability should not be underestimated, as frostbite and crop failure can be detrimental to individuals and whole clans.
Light Common / Illuminator / Citrine: These dragons can manipulate light itself, creating it and guiding it. They can pierce through the deepest fog, and use a spectrum of colors. Light Uncommon / Candle / Sacridite: These dragons, alone of all, cannot be deceived or corrupted by any known power. They will see through illusions, resist mind reading, and even if raised as a zombie by an Ice Rare, will keep their own will and freedom. Light Unusual / Sunchaser / Chrysoberyl: These dragons can hasten time's effects on an object or being, aging it years in a few seconds. Light Rare / Sunguard / Pyrite: These dragons can turn time back, removing age from an object or being and making it new again. Light Faceted: These dragons are able to inspire those around them to create great works of art; novels, sculpture, poems, paintings, and more overflow from any lair that houses them. They are often called on to sit for dragons who are trying to create artworks. Light Multi-Gaze: These dragons know the truth when they hear it, and have an uncanny sense for how to get the truth out of someone. Light Primal: These dragons can amplify light in targeted areas, making day a deadly time to be outside. The sky becomes blindingly bright, grass shrivels, and scales are badly burned, as if under a giant magnifying glass. At night, the light retreats long enough to see the land desolated by the force of its glare.
Dark Sclera These dragons can extinguish all light in the area, resulting in pure blackness. They cannot extinguish the light of the sun, however, and so this power can only be used at night or while indoors. When in use, this darkness can be detrimental to all within, and it is useful to have a Mirror or many on the team who has practice attacking heat signatures that do not belong to their teammates. Swirl These dragons can get others to tell them anything, if eye contact can be maintained. The other dragon will remember what they said, but may be confused as to why they said it, particularly when personal things or other secrets are revealed. Goat These dragons are adept at learning and mastering non-magical abilities, making them prized additions to any lair, as they can help with any task required of them. Innocent These dragons can reflect light, controlling the angle of reflection to what suits them. They're particularly helpful when light is needed somewhere it can't reach otherwise, but they're also able to use this ability to their advantage against enemies, particularly by aiming light directly into their eyes to temporarily blind them.
Lightning Common / Electrician / Turquoise: These dragons have power over lightning and electricity, and are able to generate, channel, and direct it. They can shock and electrocute others in combat. Lightning Uncommon / Volt / Cobalt: These dragons can seemingly speed themselves up, becoming able to move swiftly and drastically improving reaction time. Lightning Unusual / Unceasing / Labradorite: These dragons can survive indefinitely with neither food, nor drink, nor even rest. Lightning Rare / Stormcaller / Apatite: These dragons can predict and control the weather, guiding storms away from home or lightning bolts to the lairs of enemies. Lightning Faceted: These dragons are dazzlingly eloquent and witty speakers, charming others into agreement and admiration. However, the effects of their speech don't last long after the dragon is gone. Some clans will receive travelling merchants in thick goggles, who proceed to talk the clan out of most of their valuables, before leaving mysteriously overnight. Lightning Multi-Gaze: These dragons are able to make small objects disappear and reappear later at will, to store them in the same state and carry them without having to hold them. Lightning Primal: These dragons can summon terrible storms to targeted areas, blocking the light out with massive clouds. Lightning strikes anything above the ground at a terrifying rate, and flying is impossible without being hit.
Dark Sclera These dragons can animate anything mechanical. The animated machinations cannot be controlled, however, and care must be taken to choose something most likely to provide adequate aid for the situation at hand. Young dragons with this ability often amuse themselves by animating their toys, with unpredictable results, and so their parents generally try to avoid keeping anything mechanical. Swirl These dragons can inflict intense focus upon another creature if they can make eye contact. The effect will last so long as the dragon is present, and they tend to be sought after when other dragons have an important project they need to get done, coveting the focus these dragons can provide. Goat These dragons can store food to be digested at a later time. They often make use of this, eating large amounts of food in one sitting to facilitate travel or simply to minimize interruptions while performing tasks or working on projects. Innocent These dragons can create static electricity and apply it to objects or other creatures. Commonly used in practical jokes, they can still prove to be a dangerous opponent, particularly if anything flammable or electric is nearby.
Nature Common / Druid / Emerald: These dragons can control plants and growing things, making them grow, move, or shape themselves. Nature Uncommon / Naturalist / Jade: These dragons are very difficult to seriously hurt, since they can heal their own wounds within seconds and resist almost all poisons. Nature Unusual / Treewarden / Olivine: These dragons can heal other creatures from any damage, even being able to restore lost limbs. However, they cannot heal themselves. Nature Rare / Shapechanger / Diopside: These dragons can transform themself or another creature into a different species, using a living specimen of the desired creature. However, to make the transformation permanent will usually kill the specimen being used. Nature Faceted: These dragons can go unnoticed among the living, walking before the eyes of savage predators, diligent watchdogs, or even distracted dragons, without being attacked, questioned, or hindered- as though they were not there at all. Nature Multi-Gaze: These dragons can temporarily alter their own color, disguising or camouflaging themselves. However, it will gradually return to normal within a few hours. Nature Primal: These dragons can cause the wilderness to become out of control in targeted areas. Plants grow to impossible heights and pull down constructions with their weight, previously edible plants turn deadly poisonous, paths are blocked by dagger-sized thorns, and domestic animals become savage and ferocious.
Dark Sclera These dragons can call forth all carnivorous beasts in a designated area. The beasts will swarm, devouring anything in their path, making for an effective attack. However, the beasts will not spare those who called them, so it is wise to flee the battle if this ability is used. Swirl These dragons can coerce another creature into performing a task if they can make eye contact. After eye contact is broken, the one under the dragon's effects will be compelled to perform whatever task was requested, after which they will regain control of their thoughts and actions. Goat These dragons can seek out life in the most desolate environments. They are incredibly useful to have when traversing barren landscapes, as they will always be able to find adequate food (and from there, water) that other dragons would miss altogether. Innocent These dragons can make themselves appear more fragile to others. They're particularly adept at convincing others to do stuff for them by claiming they're unable to do so themselves. It is wise for others not to pick a fight with these dragons unless they know their true opponent, as they are often much stronger and capable than they appear.
Plague Common / Infectionist / Ruby: These dragons can induce disease and decay, and are a terrible foe to have in combat. However, their diseases usually take time to cause symptoms. Plague Uncommon / Cleanser / Garnet: These dragons can cleanse objects or creatures of contamination, wiping out diseases and rot. Plague Unusual / Bonewalker / Cuprite: These dragons are much to be feared, able to control the bodies of living creatures, but not the minds. Their ability can wipe out whole armies at its greatest power. Plague Rare / Alpha healer / Bloodstone: These dragons control the balance between health and injury, able to transfer wounds, conditions, and diseases between any two living creatures of similar size. They can restore the health of one dragon, at the cost of another's. Plague Faceted: These dragons can inflict unbearable pain on living creatures at will. This ability can be very useful, but many dragons believe it is immoral and refuse to use it. Plague Multi-Gaze: These dragons can borrow and use powers from other dragons. However, this ability is not usually very strong, because the power received is only a fraction of the target's ability, and it can be difficult to properly control an ability you've never used before. Plague Primal: These dragons can call death down upon a targeted area, all life mutating into dreadful beasts or dying off. Horrible disease sweeps through populations, spreading through the air. Neither plant nor animal is left alive anywhere in the land.
Dark Sclera These dragons can cause the bodies of themselves or other living creatures to appear dead. Their victims will remain aware of their surroundings and what happens to them, although be unable to act. With an extremely slowed heart rate, colour leeched from their hide and eyes, and in some cases even early onset of rigor mortis, they appear most certainly deceased to anyone who sees them, although the dragon can quickly reverse the effects, theirs or their victim's body returning to normal very rapidly. Swirl These dragons can relieve the pain of others as long as they can maintain eye contact. While the effect is not permanent, they may be sought after to ease the pain even if only for a short time, or to help make final moments as peaceful as possible. Goat These dragons can ingest toxins with no ill effect. These toxins enter the dragon's bloodstream, making them poisonous to others. The effect wears off when the toxins are filtered out of their blood, so timing is necessary to ensure the poison is active when wanted. Innocent These dragons can slow the progress of death and decay. This can give dragons time enough to heal or find a remedy for their illness, or it can prolong their suffering.
Shadow Common / Shader / Amethyst: These dragons control darkness and shadows, able to block light, create shade, and blind enemies. Shadow Uncommon / Veiled / Tourmaline: These dragons can create illusions that alter aspects of how they appear to others, such as their element, color, clothing, or species. Shadow Unusual / Unseen / Kunzite: These dragons can become invisible and inaudible, completely undetectable by any normal creature unless touched. Shadow Rare / Illusionist / Zircon: These dragons can create illusions of objects or creatures of any size or distance, and even completely alter the appearance of the surrounding area. However, these illusions can only affect one being at a time. Shadow Faceted: These dragons can subtly manipulate the opinions and emotions of others, guiding them in a different direction. After spending enough time with one of these dragons, a dragon may become entirely changed from what they once were. Shadow Multi-Gaze: These dragons can listen to the dreams of others, and can hear a sleeping dragon from far away. Those who want to stay hidden should stay awake at all costs. Shadow Primal: These dragons can make darkness descend upon a targeted area. All light is obscured by a black fog, until nothing can be seen at all. Dragons sometimes disappear when they are alone, or be found dead with seemingly no cause.
Dark Sclera These dragons can release spores that, when ingested, act as hallucinogens. Those under their effects cannot differentiate between hallucination and reality, although the dragon from whom the spores originated cannot control what those affected see and each individual is affected differently, their hallucinations influenced by their own thoughts and memories. Swirl These dragons can inflict false memories on another creature provided they can make eye contact. After losing eye contact, these memories will last while the dragon is in their presence, after which they will forget them as though they were never there. Goat These dragons can transfer the blame of wrongdoings from one dragon to another, including themselves. The effects will last so long as this dragon is present, but even when temporary, the actions of any dragon involved will have their consequences, good or bad, long past the realization that they were misguided. Innocent These dragons can create weightless orbs of light, much like that of the glowing fungi of the Tangled Wood. These lights are useful in guiding dragons to safety or in luring unsuspecting dragons into danger.
Water Common / Hydromancer / Sapphire: These dragons can manipulate water and other fluids, and can shape it and use it to attack. They can also breathe underwater. Water Uncommon / Deepwatcher / Azurite: These dragons are able to see events that happened in the past, at the location they are currently in. Water Unusual / Farseer / Aquamarine: These dragons can scry on any location, but can only see events happening at that time. Water Rare / Predictor / Lapis lazuli: These dragons can see into the future of a location, creature, or object which they currently are near. Water Faceted: These dragons can leave their bodies, to travel as an unseen presence on the breeze. However, they must return to their bodies before long, and cannot pass through solid objects. Water Multi-Gaze: These dragons are deep divers, able to withstand intense pressure and lack of air for days at a time. Water Primal: These dragons can summon rainstorms to plague a targeted area. The rain does not cease, night or day, apparently coming from nowhere. Water levels inevitably rise, until all the land is flooded and everything drowned.
Dark Sclera These dragons can give others visions of their worst possible future. Dragons this "gift" is bestowed upon often go mad from fear and dread of the future. Swirl These dragons can see into the past lives of a creature if they maintain eye contact. What this informations is used for depends on the dragon/s involved, and it may or may not be useful. Goat These dragons are able to communicate with creatures no other dragon can understand. They tend to have a particularly deep bond with their familiar, and other dragons tend to seek them out with problems they may be having with their own familiars. Innocent These dragons can give others visions of their best possible future, ranging from a particular short-term event to what may happen far into the future. Dragons who wish to see their future must take care to remember it is not destined to happen, and often they are left confused, dejected, angry, or worse, if events do not play out as expected.
Wind Common / Windbound / Peridot: These dragons can manipulate the movement of air and wind, and can use it to fly quickly and accurately, or move objects. Wind Uncommon / Gustborne / Malachite: These dragons can dissolve into an intangible, ghostly form, in which they can float and pass through all solid objects. Doing this will leave behind anything they had been wearing or carrying. Wind Unusual / Telekinetic / Prehnite: These dragons can manipulate gravity, changing its direction and strength to aid themselves or hinder enemies. Wind Rare / Skymaster / Marble: These dragons can teleport themselves and objects or creatures touching them to another location on Sornieth. Wind Faceted: These dragons can create small portals in the air or on objects, through which objects can pass through. It's not very useful in itself, but when made permanent, can be very useful indeed. Wind Multi-Gaze: These dragons can find their way anywhere, and never lose their direction. They almost seem to have a compass in their heads. Wind Primal: These dragons can bring cyclones and endless wind to a targeted area. Winds of hurricane strength arrive, strong enough to tear trees from the ground and whisk away anything not nailed down. Walking outside is likely to blow a dragon away.
Dark Sclera These dragons can cause others to lose their way. They are useful when guarding something you don't want anyone to find, as they can turn around potential threats so they never find where it is. Dragons affected by this ability can sometimes remain forever lost, never knowing where it is they want to go, and never feeling at home. Swirl These dragons can encourage others to remember seemingly forgotten information, so long as they can maintain eye contact. They tend to be pestered with requests to help find lost or misplaced objects, but are very useful in much more important matters as well. Goat These dragons are incredibly agile, with unnatural balancing abilities. It is extremely difficult to catch or unbalance these dragons, and if in a chase, others' best option is to try to outsmart them. Innocent These dragons can sense what kind of conditions the wind currents will take them to. They are prized navigators, able to guide teams along the safest path, or lead unfriendly pursuers into high winds and untraversable storms.

Each element has 4 possible powers, for Common, Uncommon, Unusual, and Rare eye types. For now, the special types don't have unique powers, but I might write some if there's enough demand. This list is by no means finished, so feel free to make suggestions for changes. Thanks to ideas from @TawnyOwl, the list is complete for all current eye types! Their contributions are in quotes. Their original post is here, and has some extra background info.

The names for the different types are shown like this:
Eye type / Mage name / Gem name

What can your dragon's magic do?

Pinglist for new updates:
@BlueJaysFeather

Multi-Gaze- Once thought to be only an odd mutation, it is now known that the magic of dragons with Multi-Gaze is different as well.

(Two on the list are minerals that only exist in Sornieth.)

The eye type charts are not mine, they're from the Visual Guide to Eye Types:
http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/2452354

If you know of some eye type images that are smaller, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.

These dragons can condense raw magic into a tangible form for a short time. Magic in this form behaves as a living creature, acting as a second attacker while the dragon can focus on other tactics. However, the magic being is wildly unpredictable, with so much power condensed into a small shape, and may not differentiate between friend and foe.
Swirl
These dragons can place another creature into a heightened state of awareness if they maintain eye contact. The dragon in this trance can sense what is happening around them to a much higher degree than normal.
Goat
These dragons have an uncanny ability to know exactly where to go, where to look, or who to talk to in order to find answers to what they want to know. Because this ability does not extend to coercing others to disclose said information, these dragons particularly enjoy teaming up with Swirl Light dragons to ensure they have access to what they want to know.
Innocent
These dragons can condense magic into runestones. While the runestones are usually decorative, these dragons are capable of making the magic inside them accessible, and they tend to keep a supply of these stones on them to access the magic in times of need.

iXlTHIZ.png

These dragons can summon the bones of long-dead creatures buried under the earth and animate them. These creatures are often much more dangerous than their living counterparts, and may even become an amalgamation of many different creatures if the bones were near each other.
Swirl
These dragons can put others to sleep if they make eye contact. They are incredibly useful in lairs with injured dragons or dragons suffering from nightmares or unable to fall asleep for some other reason. When going up against Swirl dragons, others go out of their way to avoid making eye contact.
Goat
These dragons have the ability to store information for an extended period of time, most likely their whole lives. Their long-term memory is remarkable, although this does not extend to the short-term. Trying to get one of these dragons to remember events or information from within the last few weeks is next to impossible.
Innocent
These dragons can break down and reshape minerals. Their creations are highly prized decorations as they can shape gems into forms no other dragon is capable of. When opposing these dragons, others should ensure to cover their nose, mouth, and even eyes, as to avoid ingesting clouds of toxic mineral particles.

2vnVC30.jpg
TawnyOwl wrote on 2020-03-05 22:02:47:

These dragons can alter the body temperature of another living being. The ability to shut down the bodies of their enemies or overheat them to deadly temperatures makes them a formidable foe, although to reach such extremes they must focus on a single target.
Swirl
These dragons have the ability to heighten the physical senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing) of others if they can maintain eye contact. They can focus on enhancing a single sense or all, although the effect diminishes the more it is spread across the senses.
Goat
These dragons are capable of coordinating large numbers of dragons. They make particularly effective commanders, as they can make sure armies (or even small groups) work together effectively, balancing their abilities and attacking in synchrony.
Innocent
These dragons can induce a subtle calming effect on those around them. However, if their temper flares while using this ability, the tempers of those under their spell do as well, and chaos can ensue.

R2YDJSN.png

These dragons can alter the memories of other dragons, leaving them with gaps in their memory or remembering events differently than they happened. This can often have unintended results, however, as altering memories is a very complex procedure.
Swirl
These dragons can alter the emotions of others as long as they can maintain eye contact. Even after eye contact is broken, the affected creature will suffer from lingering traces of the altered emotion for a time, although it will usually wear off before long.
Goat
These dragons are able to glean nutrients from anything, so long as it isn't toxic. This means it is almost impossible for these dragons to starve, as they don't require food in the same way as other dragons, although they definitely prefer regular food and generally don't make a habit of eating "inedible" items unless necessary.
Innocent
These dragons can create and control frost and pride themselves on learning the control necessary to form beautiful, precise designs. Usually used in forms of art, this ability should not be underestimated, as frostbite and crop failure can be detrimental to individuals and whole clans.

cOLQqpZ.png
TawnyOwl wrote on 2020-03-05 22:02:47:

These dragons can extinguish all light in the area, resulting in pure blackness. They cannot extinguish the light of the sun, however, and so this power can only be used at night or while indoors. When in use, this darkness can be detrimental to all within, and it is useful to have a Mirror or many on the team who has practice attacking heat signatures that do not belong to their teammates.
Swirl
These dragons can get others to tell them anything, if eye contact can be maintained. The other dragon will remember what they said, but may be confused as to why they said it, particularly when personal things or other secrets are revealed.
Goat
These dragons are adept at learning and mastering non-magical abilities, making them prized additions to any lair, as they can help with any task required of them.
Innocent
These dragons can reflect light, controlling the angle of reflection to what suits them. They're particularly helpful when light is needed somewhere it can't reach otherwise, but they're also able to use this ability to their advantage against enemies, particularly by aiming light directly into their eyes to temporarily blind them.

wGats5Q.png

These dragons can animate anything mechanical. The animated machinations cannot be controlled, however, and care must be taken to choose something most likely to provide adequate aid for the situation at hand. Young dragons with this ability often amuse themselves by animating their toys, with unpredictable results, and so their parents generally try to avoid keeping anything mechanical.
Swirl
These dragons can inflict intense focus upon another creature if they can make eye contact. The effect will last so long as the dragon is present, and they tend to be sought after when other dragons have an important project they need to get done, coveting the focus these dragons can provide.
Goat
These dragons can store food to be digested at a later time. They often make use of this, eating large amounts of food in one sitting to facilitate travel or simply to minimize interruptions while performing tasks or working on projects.
Innocent
These dragons can create static electricity and apply it to objects or other creatures. Commonly used in practical jokes, they can still prove to be a dangerous opponent, particularly if anything flammable or electric is nearby.

xnMaiGV.jpg

These dragons can call forth all carnivorous beasts in a designated area. The beasts will swarm, devouring anything in their path, making for an effective attack. However, the beasts will not spare those who called them, so it is wise to flee the battle if this ability is used.
Swirl
These dragons can coerce another creature into performing a task if they can make eye contact. After eye contact is broken, the one under the dragon's effects will be compelled to perform whatever task was requested, after which they will regain control of their thoughts and actions.
Goat
These dragons can seek out life in the most desolate environments. They are incredibly useful to have when traversing barren landscapes, as they will always be able to find adequate food (and from there, water) that other dragons would miss altogether.
Innocent
These dragons can make themselves appear more fragile to others. They're particularly adept at convincing others to do stuff for them by claiming they're unable to do so themselves. It is wise for others not to pick a fight with these dragons unless they know their true opponent, as they are often much stronger and capable than they appear.

EZOsrIj.jpg

These dragons can cause the bodies of themselves or other living creatures to appear dead.
Swirl
These dragons can relieve the pain of others as long as they can maintain eye contact. While the effect is not permanent, they may be sought after to ease the pain even if only for a short time, or to help make final moments as peaceful as possible.
Goat
These dragons can ingest toxins with no ill effect. These toxins enter the dragon's bloodstream, making them poisonous to others. The effect wears off when the toxins are filtered out of their blood, so timing is necessary to ensure the poison is active when wanted.
Innocent
These dragons can slow the progress of death and decay. This can give dragons time enough to heal or find a remedy for their illness, or it can prolong their suffering.

2szyy3P.jpg

These dragons can release spores that, when ingested, act as hallucinogens. Those under their effects cannot differentiate between hallucination and reality, although the dragon from whom the spores originated cannot control what those affected see and each individual is affected differently, their hallucinations influenced by their own thoughts and memories.
Swirl
These dragons can inflict false memories on another creature provided they can make eye contact. After losing eye contact, these memories will last while the dragon is in their presence, after which they will forget them as though they were never there.
Goat
These dragons can transfer the blame of wrongdoings from one dragon to another, including themselves. The effects will last so long as this dragon is present, but even when temporary, the actions of any dragon involved will have their consequences, good or bad, long past the realization that they were misguided.
Innocent
These dragons can create weightless orbs of light, much like that of the glowing fungi of the Tangled Wood. These lights are useful in guiding dragons to safety or in luring unsuspecting dragons into danger.

7PqPbno.jpg

These dragons can give others visions of their worst possible future. Dragons this "gift" is bestowed upon often go mad from fear and dread of the future.
Swirl
These dragons can see into the past lives of a creature if they maintain eye contact. What this informations is used for depends on the dragon/s involved, and it may or may not be useful.
Goat
These dragons are able to communicate with creatures no other dragon can understand. They tend to have a particularly deep bond with their familiar, and other dragons tend to seek them out with problems they may be having with their own familiars.
Innocent
These dragons can give others visions of their best possible future, ranging from a particular short-term event to what may happen far into the future.

These dragons can cause others to lose their way. They are useful when guarding something you don't want anyone to find, as they can turn around potential threats so they never find where it is. Dragons affected by this ability can sometimes remain forever lost, never knowing where it is they want to go, and never feeling at home.
Swirl
These dragons can encourage others to remember seemingly forgotten information, so long as they can maintain eye contact. They tend to be pestered with requests to help find lost or misplaced objects, but are very useful in much more important matters as well.
Goat
These dragons are incredibly agile, with unnatural balancing abilities. It is extremely difficult to catch or unbalance these dragons, and if in a chase, others' best option is to try to outsmart them.
Innocent
These dragons can sense what kind of conditions the wind currents will take them to. They are prized navigators, able to guide teams along the safest path, or lead unfriendly pursuers into high winds and untraversable storms.
This is really cool! I also like the idea of Arcane being able to hear emotions and thoughts.

@Rivershard First off; I really like this entire thing; especially the way you managed to give all four eye types among the eleven elements their own powers.

Given the rarity, maybe Primal Eye types across all elements would give the dragon the abilities of all their elemental eye types combined? Just an idea as to how it'd be rendered that much more powerful.

A few other ideas off the top of my head;

Fire Faceted - A dragon with these eyes is capable of discerning all attributes of whatever material it touches. This perceptive ability is ideal for supervisors within the forges and smith's assistants who may have study metal before shaping it.

Plague Faceted - Dragons with this eye type do not necessarily infect or remove infections, but rather control how the infection behaves. They can slow the rate at which viruses infect living things, or exacerbate the rate at which the infection spreads.

Arcane Faceted - Dragons with these glimmering eyes are capable of implanting thoughts into the minds of other dragons, rather than exracting them. This makes them terrifyingly efficient teachers, and experts at counter-espionage.

Those are really neat ideas, I like the way you developed the magic system with defined powers for each element.

I myself wouldn't use it tough, since I stick with the canon idea that there's no power difference between eye types, just aesthetic... yet aesthetics can mean a lot in different societies xD

However, your ideas in elemental magic are (again) really awesome. Just imagine a Plague fae trying to heal a Shadow fae by receiving wounds itself, yet for some reason it doesn't work... because the Shadow fae was actually a Ridgeback or Imperial spy using an illusion spell to infiltrate the healer's lair.

Great possibilities!

NICE NICE I like these.

A few thoughts about the special eye types...

Multi-gaze - something about sensing the element (ex: water multigaze can sense the presence, purity, and movement of water)
Faceted - defensive against the element (ex: Ice Faceted is just plain immune to ice attacks and magic)
Primal - auras of elemental magic of varying strength (ex: everyone just gets sick around Plague Primals, but they can tone it down to just the sniffles)

@Rivershard Aaaaah I love this! Will likely be saving for lore!

I have seen some users use facet eyes as blindness in their lore!
