TOPIC | Would flippng G1's really be worth it?
1 2
I'm sort of considering getting into the market of buying G1's so they can be flipped. My general idea would be to buy one that is ungened (or partially gened), gene them, then sell them with some art of my own.

I'm just not sure if this is worth it? it seems like a long waiting game of them sitting on the AH / bumping endlessly in the forums, how much would someone really profit from it? What if I also gave them lore?

Also, would giving them gem genes make their price on the market go up? Asking for a friend here ; v ;

Edit: If G1 flipping isn't profitable / worth it, what about normal dragons? Would giving them art and lore and selling them in the AH / Forums be worth it?

@Omnidraconia

Geneing dragons usually doesn't increase their value more than the cost of the gene. For example, look at all the gened gen 1s on the AH and how their value generally isn't close to the value of the genes at all. I think it's because people have different gene tastes so by geneing a gen 1 you increase the price and turning off people who don't want to spend that much on a gen 1 they have to re-gene.

Art and lore might be good, dunno the market for that, but it's kinda hard to advertise art on the AH without naming your g1 HasArt or something, so most browsers miss it.

Gem sales
Not worth it. It takes far too long for any G1 to be sold and anyone that even has genes goes at a loss.

Giving a gen 1 genes will never raise the value, because people are extremely particular on how they want their gen 1s to look and no one wants to pay for a gene they will immediately replace.

You could maybe set it up as a raffle, but I don't know you'd make much of a profit ^^;

More profitable might be to sell some of your hatchery dragons with art, or offer discounted art for any dragons that come out of your hatchery (added bonus of people being slightly less likely to exalt dragons if they have nice art)

I've seen several people say they're less likely to buy a gened G1.
The appeal of G1s is geneing them yourself and pre-gened ones don't have that appeal anymore.

Definitely do not gene to resell. You will never get the price of the gene, heck even half that is hard to get sometimes.

Selling gen1's is definitely a long game. I'd advise using another way of making money and selling gen1's on the side if you happen to have a couple sitting around that you don't want. But whether people buy them is entirely subjective too (unless they're pretty doubles.

I haven't seen dragons with art sell that well either unless it's really amazing, but even if it is, they still have to want the dragon too.

All in all it's a shaky flaky business. The only thing that really sells a dragon above all else is level I've found. (You've also gotta be a bit of a snake with pricing cos people lurve dem bargains.)

Flipping normal dragons are more profitable. Buy hatchlings at 3000-4000t, then once they grow up sell them at 7000-8000. Profit!
And, if there is a conquest push, sell the dragons as a highwr price. Check the AH for current prices!
Right now fire and shadow are conquesting!

You'd have a similar problem with dragons with art/lore. You'd have to sell for a fair amount each for it to be worth your time spent drawing/writing for them and you have no way of knowing if the art/lore you're selling will be what the buyer wants for the dragon.
You'd be better off just opening an art/lore shop and taking commissions if you wanted to go that way.

Just regular flipping dragons can be very profitable though. Buy cheap hatchlings and sell when they're adults and make easy money for very little work :D

agree with everyone else that geneing/flipping g1s will not be worth your time, and you won't get a good return on your investment. however, it might be somewhat profitable to rescue fodder hatchlings on the AH and give them art/lore. i paid 180kt for this girl + her art and lore, when i would have never given her a second glance if she was a plain fodder baby on the AH: you'd have to be really proactive about advertising, though. the forums move fast, and like someone else said, it's really impossible to know at a glance whether a dragon on the AH has art
