....change my mind.
I'm re-reading all of the encyclopedia and world map as I do some lore-ing stuff and, wow, I really love Plague.
I know most people hate the aesthetic because it's all gross and organic, and I get that. In fact I'm a little put off by that. Like look at these eyes:

But it's more than that, just some quotes from the world map...
As with the borderlands, life - if it can be called that - thrives here.

Few plague dragons make the trek from the thriving borderlands to the cauldron at the heart of the region, but those that do tell stories of travelers becoming lost for centuries, or even eternity.

It is said that the ring of this immense crater is both a welcome sight and bittersweet image of pilgrims who challenge themselves in the boneyard
And we always get such pretty skins for the festival that isn't just the organic 'grossness'

So yeah, upon my re-reading I've determined that Plague is hella cool and not gross and I love it. And that I also should have made this post like forever ago during Plague's festival but shut up I do what I want.
and also very important

Plague and Nature are two sides of the same coin. Everyone *loves* Nature, but Nature is just as harsh. It's weird.
People are squeaked about death in general. They don't like to talk about their own mortality. They don't like to talk about disease and everything that comes with it.
Nature and Plague are really one. Decay means life.
I've always had a fascination with the whole thing, really. Watching a body decay (animal, not humans, I am not a weird serial killer lol) and just watching the process. It's really quite beautiful. I had soldier fly larvae for a while in one of my compost bins, and it was remarkable what they could do with a body (I have chickens too, and sometimes one dies.. I could count on the soldier fly larvae to clean it up, fast) Once there was a cat that had been at the side of the road for a while, fur all matted from the rain.. and I walked past it every day and you could just see the process. Eventually nothing but bones remained. All of that is nature, by the way, NOT plague. They got it all wrong lol Decay is nature.. Plague is thriving in adversity. (the soldier flies are totally plague though. Finding a meal no one else would eat. Totally plague.)
Decay feeds the soil, feeds the plants. That's Nature.
Plague is a broken bone, mending wrong, but to keep going.
It's chickens laying blue eggs! The blue egg gene is a genetic change caused by a retrovirus, carried by a breeds known as Aracauna and Silkies. There are many cross breeds these days, that carry it too. One can create olive eggers by crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers, as the brown is kind of like a paint coat, applied afterward, while blue eggs are blue through and through.
Plague is survival, thriving, against all odds. It's beating cancer. It's a little kid growing their hair back.

Plague is fantastic and i honestly wish ice would share borders with them because honestly? I am a sucker for thier aethestics, lore and general direction.
Its not about Gore, organic messes and sickness, its about overcoming your limits and having an general sense of ones mortalilty.
Besides that, medical wise, its so interesting??
I am already a huge fan of Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Dead Space and other games that share the theme of mutations, so Plague acually building on that as seen from subspecies, is just my tea!
