Meat made more sense to me for Winter. Ice fishing is a pretty localised practice, but meat being the main food supply when no plants are growing is everywhere that experiences winter significantly. Spring is fish spawning season, so I would have had it then, leaving buggy summer.

Ikr? The hotter and more humid it is, the more bugs will come out to suck our blood and bite us play. It really makes more sense for meat to get this season since it's literally the mating season for them.

Spring being the breeding season actually makes it the worst time to hunt.
At least in modern times, hunting during the spring is discouraged specifically to protect animals while they're breeding and raising young; if you kill a deer with a fawn, you've effectively killed two deer but only gotten one deer's worth of meat.
Additionally, many animals will be more aggressive when they're protecting their young, and especially in cold regions they'll provide more food if they have all summer to fatten up first.
