i'm kinda curious; that's pretty much all. lore can kinda come from anywhere i guess, so tell me where you get your inspo from :>

i personally get inspiration to write bios from things like tarot cards, zodiac signs, and sometimes even the beliefs the different elemental alignments have. i know a lot of people think that might be silly, zodiac signs especially, but i guess i kinda just like astrology :D

(note: please don't attack someone for their beliefs here; like, it's cool if you don't like star signs or think they're dumb, but don't call someone stupid because they don't like something you do and vise versa. thank you!)

@Sumopian

I don’t have any lore written on my dragon’s bios at the moment, but for me?

The emotion I am currently feeling, or the emotion each dragon makes me feel. Could just be because I have a high level of empathy, I don’t really know though haha. Also a lot of my dragons are named after zones, characters or items from a video game I play ands helps me get a certain vibe or emotion

And since you mentioned zodiacs, I guess the way I get inspiration for my lore matches with one of the most common terms associated with my sign.

Very cool thread though, it’s fun to know what others draw inspiration from!

Sometimes I just slap an outfit on and I'm like "yes okay lore" and it comes to me. However a lot of the time I try to give them a meaningful name to connect to their lore as well though that doesn't work out.

Honestly a lot of the time I just,,, stare,, at them until something comes to me oopsie haha.

I also like to connect lore, figure out backstories and how the dragons arrived in my lair so that stirs up some inspiration, I also like to look at others' lore and see if any inspiration hits me as well!!

Sometimes I compare a dragon to something and see the similarities. Example, her: She reminded me of the porcelain and china so that's what she is now. The rest of her inspo came from those "meet a (blank)" threads. I found one and decided to rp her for a little, then wham. Got hit in the face by ideas. Picked one and rolled with it.

To be honest... I get inspiration from the most random places!
Sometimes I'll have a derg in mind when I'm out and about then suddenly an idea comes to me!
I got major ideas for my girl Retalia while I was at the local swimming pool ^^;

From outfits.

Like, I throw pieces on or ask someone to dress them. If it works I then build a personality around them.

Occasionally they've come from genes or the dragon's IRL history.

And I usually buy lore dergs for a purpose, and rn I’m seeking residents and higher levels for the wild woods division! That theme gives me a good idea of what their lore can be, since it’s full of adventurers and escapees who stumbled upon the island by accident!

I like taking inspiration from sources like thermodynamics and quantum mechanics for my magic, history and politics for my clan structure, and various myths and stories for individual characters.

Like, my clan is called the Horde and is based loosely on many different peoples throughout the ages. Due to the huge diversity in the Horde, different armies of it have developed their own cultures due to families typically following certain masses for generations. The Khan is based on the Mongels and is the head of Horde. Right now, she leads the Legion, a mass named after units of 3-6 thousand soldiers in ancient Rome. In modern times, it mostly just means a lot of something, and that fits the Legion well because it is the largest combat mass.

The Core, being primarily magic, is not based on any specific army, but its naming convention is Greek-ish. It also includes groups absorbed by the Greeks, such as the Egyptians or Hebrews. Cadmus is named after a legendary monster slayer and king of Thebes in Greek mythology.

The Brotherhood is not based off of anything specifically, being a shadow corp focused on stealth and subterfuge. Yari is the captain, and uses a pseudonym instead of his actual name. In general, the Brotherhood uses Japanese-like names.

The Vanguard is based off of Celtic forces of Britannia, especially those that fought against the Romans before 500 BCE. Using more mobile, hit and run, and entrenchment warfare, the Vanguard is less imposing than the Legion, but they can hold their own just fine. ((The Legion and Vanguard are highly competitive with each other in my lore, and the Vanguard usually wins the War Games.))

The Enclave is the remaining Mass and is based off of a collection of different groups because of its sheer size. The Enclave is based on infrastructural means, essentially making up the working class of the Horde, including the Unions and industries not directly controlled by the Khan. The Enclave uses French names primarily. The Chantry, a part of the Enclave that is controlled by the Enclave's captain at this time, is based on France's Catholic church from the 16th century. It is, on paper, willing to give other groups equal religious opportunity, but in practice, maybe not so much.
