I always kept seeing "flora and fauna" in Nature lore, so I was like "hm might as well" and kept putting it in my own Nature lore, using it to reference plants because I thought both words were just fancy ways to put "plants"

Then I finally decided to search up the definition. Flora is plants, fauna is animals. Huh. I always assumed both meant plants

TIL something no one cares about

I used to think fauna meant plants to for many year. Even after studying ecology/biology for 4.5yrs I still have to mentally remind myself the definitions!

Nobody wants to tell you why discipline is so important. Discipline is the strongest form of self-love. It is ignoring current pleasures for bigger rewards to come. It's loving yourself enough to give yourself everything you've ever wanted.

flora is like flower is like plant
fauna is like fawn is like animal

It's actually so much more interesting and vast than that. Flora (plants; coming from Flora, a Roman goddess of plants), fauna (animals; coming from Fauna, a Roman goddess of earth, and Faunus, another Roman god of fertility and forests) and fungi are just three of numerous phylogenetic branches of the phylogenetic tree. Just take a look at this, get that all animals that currently exist are such a small portion of other forms of life Also, some people here who are saying that Sornieth has creatures that are "both flora and fauna" is a funny thing to think about but it's most likely genetically incorrect. Creatures such as Stranglers, Marzals, Pansies, Garden Watchers, Overwatered Seedlings, Barkback Boars, Lilyfowls or Ear Deer belong to a special phylogenetic branch of creatures that, aesthetically and genetically, possess certain traits and abilities that are found in Terran plant and animal life, but they are truly neither of them. They have the abilities of utilising photosynthesis for food, but they also have photosensitive organs that allow them to see. They can grow like a plant and possibly have immense control over their cells and how they grow, but their cells are also very similar in structure of both animal and plant cells, allowing them to form more complex bodies capable of travelling. The science behind Sornieth's life, geology and climate will ALWAYS be more interesting than "duhhh it's just magic".
