I just realized how much possibilities there are for fae lairs. Not just trees in stuff. For example, in water flight, there could be a lair in a coral reef, or some empty shell. Plague could have one on some.. giant corpse thing. Etc etc.
I only just realized how much you can do.

wind fae lair that's a ton of faes in bamboo, screaming loudly

fae lairs in plague: one of those huge bone-type things on rotrock rim
in lightning: if not in or on a butte, maybe on one of the metal spires of the lightning farm. make real nuisances of themselves
in shadow: in a tangle of thorns, working the thorns into the outer defenses of the nest
in light: on imperials' antlers

Once, a Guardian took a fae as her charge. They were young, and carefree, and over the years that they traveled together their bond deepened from friendship to love. Eventually they became parents, blessed by a clutch of five eggs.

He never learned who did it, except it must have been another large dragon. He left the cliff where they nested to scout for beastclans, and when he returned, someone had taken all their valuables and... just left her broken body there. The love of his life was gone, but their eggs were safe, hidden under her paw. In time, they all hatched into fae.

Years passed. With each year, and each generation, the large bones on the cliff became more and more covered with amber. His little family brought mates of their own, and he watched with joy as they grew into a proper clan that she would have been just as proud of as he was. He grew old. Sometimes, one of his children, grandchildren or so on would ask him - their little fins fluttering in adorable and childish excitement - what or who the skeleton had belonged to. He would simply flare his crest in a soft and warm 'smile', and tell them that he didn't know, but that he had a feeling that as long as they remained in their home, the spirit of their 'home' would always remain with them and keep them safe. It would always watch over them.
