Here's a few predictions I have for potential ancient breeds! I think another thing worth considering is where these breeds are coming from, since they have to have been hidden somewhere.
Another important point: "Not all ancient dragons were created by the elemental gods—others sprang forth from pure coagulated magic, owing no allegiance at all." So here's a few predictions for some flightless breeds by source:

- Ice: Gaolers, duh. Big shaggy proto-Tundras with big branching horns, claws, tiny wings, and underbites. Hidden under the Icefield.
- Wind: Supernoodle? Something vaguely lindwurm-esque, or perhaps closer to an ampithere... They probably hid in the highest clouds. Maybe they can fly indefinitely? Calling a name: they're going to be named after some kind of cloud.
- Fire: Somehow I can't imagine the ancient fiery breed being super feathery. Calling it now: they're gonna be called Quetzals. They've probably hid in the lava or the deepest parts of the Furnce. Their mouths might look like this:
- Earth: Zombie dragons!! Listen, if anything's gonna be undead, it'll be these guys. Plague ain't undead, it's very strong living things and dead sick things. Maybe something like living-fossil dragons, with a hard stony exterior... They probably lived in the deepest caves.
- Light: Somehow I'd really like it if the Light ancient dragons were gaunt and spiny and really creepy-looking. Emperors have been explicitly deconfirmed (darn it), so maybe something more like huge proto-Imperials...? Maybe an ancient Pearlcatcher/Imperial hybrid... No clue where they lived. Caves, or special forgotten ruins?
- Shadow: I'd love some super-batty proto-Nocturnes. Maybe they lived in huge caves and "see" with echolocation. An all-blind dragon species would be super interesting! Again, caves also seem practical, although there's lots of places they could hide in Shadow territory.
- Lightning: I don't have any big predictions for these guys appearance-wise (maybe they've got Stormcatcher's weirdly mantis-like forearms), but I'd love it if they were just as borrowy as Ridgebacks, stealing stuff from the surface. Sometimes things just go missing for no reason... or so the modern dragons think. They might live coursing through the highest storms.
- Nature: Dinosaur dragons. That is all. They live in
Jurassic Parkmaybe the Great Tree itself? - Plague: A thought: dragons that can gather up the limbs of dead dragons and attach them to themselves, amassing backs full of wings and arms. Creepy? Yeah. Plague flight? Absolutely. They could potentially live in the Wyrmwound itself, swimming in the yuck-water, or maybe somewhere in the Wastes.
- Arcane: I'd love to see some super alien-y proto-Faes! Maybe they've got the Arcanist's multiple limbs, or even more than that. I also hope they'll get big buggy eyes (no clue what the deal is with ancient dragons and eye types though). I feel like they might have the weirdest hiding place, like from a rift in space or something.
- Water: Saved this one for last. Horrifying abyssal dragons that resemble Guardians in the same way that deepsea fish resemble their colorful, non-horrifying counterparts... You could do some incredible things! Bioluminescent tertiary, anyone? They totally live in the deepest trenches and abysses.
Another important point: "Not all ancient dragons were created by the elemental gods—others sprang forth from pure coagulated magic, owing no allegiance at all." So here's a few predictions for some flightless breeds by source:
- Brewing source: Dragons born from the primordial ooze from the wastes of the fusion reactor. Maybe they're goopy or unstable, or perhaps they blend into their surroundings.
- Coliseum source: Wandering mercenaries, potentially more humanoid in structure. If there's any that'd be more drakelike, I think it'd be these.
- Gathering source: Farm-keeping dragons that flit between their crops. I think we need some more tiny breeds, and a pixie-like breed might be interesting.
