Haha, yep. Especially since the Trading Post used to be a literal crossroads (you can still see it in the background).
It probably did at first but I got used to the names eventually...
I believe staff have clarified before why they call them what they do. It's supposed to be more from the dragons perspective, I think?
Crossroads being... well... a crossroads. In canon lore dragons aren't trading themselves for money or items or other dragons - they're going off to explore and just so happen to end up where they end up.
So for us it's 'trading' but for them it's something more lore-friendly.
The trading post is where dragons would go to trade items, aptly enough. They'd go to Tomo and trade knowledge for money, to Crim to trade items for treasure, swipp, etc.
So it's supposed to be more from the dragons perspective and not ours.
Although, that doesn't stop all the confusion... it sorta makes sense if you think about it that way.

This wasn’t too confusing in the early says of the game... the Crossroads has just changed a lot.
When the site opened, and for years after, you could only send and receive dragons in the Crossroads, which lines up with what AlphaSobek said about canon lore. Item trading was not included in the Crossroads. Trading with pure currency (treasure to gem trading between players) couldn’t be done in the old Crossroads either, you had to send it over PMs and hope the recipient sent something back.
With how the feature is now, it makes sense that player who joined after the Crossraods update think that its more like a trading post.

when I was new I thought the trading post was the “trading with other users” feature.

I've had an account since 2014 and I still get confused basically every time I go to open the crossroads. If I'm navigating to the trading post I don't usually get confused, but just about every time I try to go to the crossroads I click the trading post first on accident.
(I don't use CRs often enough nowadays for it to stick I guess.)
