My local weather right now is the perfect argument against the 7 day period. See, I live in a charming little place known as Tornado Alley. Sure, I have power right now because the storms haven't hit my town yet (they're supposed to be here later tonight) but the towns west of me? No power.
A couple years ago when we had an honest to god tornado actually touch down we lost a cell tower and service was out for a couple days, and then iffy until they could replace it. Luckily nobody was hurt, but our power and internet were both iffy. We had to go to the library in the next town over to send business emails.
Galore feels really unfair to people who live in areas affected by weather like this...

The old system would be ideal but two weeks AT LEAST would at least not punish people who get bad weather.

Unfortunately, that's just how it goes sometimes. There's always gonna be someone somewhere out there who has something come up that'll keep them away for the week an item is being given out.
However, I do agree that one week is a bit short. Two weeks would be better, but if we make it 2 weeks, you bet people will ask for a month, and so on.

I know they won't change anything since people already added their 2 cents when the idea was first announced, but the timing of this really drives it all home.

Yea, I’d really prefer 2 weeks. I sometimes go on 7 day vacations with no internet, that’d be unfortunate.

That sucks but you can't really base things around the entire site on "what if a tiny sliver of people can't get this because of

eh, I feel like two weeks is too long. I get that people have vacation and personal issues, but that’s the whole thing: they’re personal. I don’t feel like FR should accommodate to the small minority
