TOPIC | Untradeable items. Thoughts.

On the one hand, making an item locked to a single account keeps the price of the item from tanking for the ones that can be traded. On the other hand, if those locked items are the ONLY versions of that item, then there's no way to tank the price on the AH because there is no price.

On the one hand, if a person doesn't want to use the item themselves for whatever reason, then the item just sits there on the account. On the other hand, if they don't want it, then they don't have to take it.

What are everyone else's thoughts on the matter?

Inventory space is unlimited so i dont see an issue with unused items in the hoard, you never know when that one dragon maybe just need something you thought was useless

People will get around it. While there's no insurance for a dragon that leaves your account, if someone wants a vial badly enough they will find someone who offers theirs.

I honestly think we should just have access to vials normally. There's still a lot of people that want primal on special dragons, and I lucked out to get faceted on one of mine with a reroll.

However, it's very nice to have something that even if I never use, it's there in case I WANT it.

Interesting idea, but folks are going to 'sell' them anyways (via trade dragon, use vial on dragon, send dragon back), so I don't really know the point.

Could work for other item types though.

Cursed idea: clanbound familiars, distributed only once then retired permanently. You get one based on your current flight, and there's no way to get any others.

They're not hurting much by rotting in the hoard/vault.

I've heard it was to curb multi-accounters from funneling the vials and I suppose that's a valid argument to make.

I have a friend who likes to send me stuff he doesn't want from events, which I've had him back off a bit because it feels like I have an unfair advantage. As someone who plays fairly with only one account, I can't imagine someone using multiple to funnel items. It does seem like it could be a problem.

it's been done before, when scatterscrolls got borked up years and years ago. (before my time, someone older could prob elaborate)

you can't trade the scrolls (if any still exist) or eye vials themselves, but if you want it badly enough you can trade a dragon to someone who still has theirs and have them apply the item's effects, nbd. just an extra step or two to get the item's effects.

You can't quite play the same investment game with these as you can do with other retired items. Sure you can hold on to yours, but you can't buy a bunch up and sell later (theoretically you can buy dragons and pay other people to goat them up but goat eyed dragons don't actually seem to sell well). You also will have a much harder time "selling" yours since you need to prove to be at least somewhat reliable/have collateral and still need to find someone willing to take such risk (same problem with "buying" them). I think making them account bound probably has a fairly significant effect on value but someone who wants multiple old goats can do it relatively easily if they do it now

As for WHY it was this way? I think it probably was done to discourage people from trying to hoard these and resell later. Otherwise they could have just given everyone two non-account bound goat eye vials through Galore.
My brother and I both play, he doesn't come on very often but does enjoy playing whenever he feels like it. I'm very much a full time player and him very sparse. Just whenever the whim hits him. He also likes to send me items that he'll never use. He's kind of the mindset "That I'm here for shiggles and don't care much about this stuff, but you do, so you take it." And he'll send me things sometimes. This is not the same thing as funneling, and I believe the staff understand this. Sometimes I do feel like I'll get dinged because we share an IP and trade things and they might think I'm multi accounting, but I've been here for years and haven't had any issues. Friends giving you stuff isn't wrong, even if it's frequent. It's not the same thing as funneling. So you shouldn't worry too much. Hell, people on flight rising are constantly giving things to their friends. Sometimes to the extreme, and they don't get in trouble.
