TOPIC | eye vial "scams"?
why are people so... scared of being scammed with the goat eyes, but they have no problem sending a pair to someone else for eye color? or to breed with someone elses dragon?

im not scared of being scammed if i send my dragons to someone else, but im scared that if i send treasure to someone if i want to goat their dragon, that theyve basically "sold" their dragon to me and will refuse to send it back, even if theyve promised that price i sent them + the price of the vial

if this seems as if im annoyed or targetting anyone, im not. im just curious

edit: i think i understand now, thanks!

I can understand needing collateral for something new that people would take advantage of.

I think for me, if i wanted more than two goat eyes, I'd put it on a dragon that I am spoiling - old, low IDs, gen 1s, OLD gen 1s, a gen 2 imp, a fully leveled dragon, etc.

Those dragons are profitable for someone to resell - mainly in auctions, and also sentimental in value to me.

Most of my breeding project pairs I could sent out for are fodder dragons I picked up because they had colors right for a project dragon I plan to spoil once it's hatched.

Generally if I'm sending a dragon off for a nest rental they're dragons I wouldn't terribly mind losing if it came to that, since they're breeders rather than permas, and I use reputable nest rental networks.

Even if I wanted Goat on any of my old dragons I would definitely not send my 6-digits to be Goat'd unless it was to someone I knew personally offsite.

Not everyone uses nest rental services or other unsupported transactions. I don't. Although I can't imagine there's much overlap between does-not-use-nest-rental and willing-to-buy-clanbound-vials.

There's also that, since everyone only gets two, there aren't always previous transactions to base on. The same people can infinitely rent out their nests, and other players can see that these people are trustworthy. This is not always the case for players with clanbound vials, and it will only get harder and harder to find someone established who still has theirs to sell.

It's different for everyone. In my experience, players are usually at least somewhat cautious when sending off dragons for breeding or training. Temporary trades like this entirely on trust and accountability, and that's a dangerous game to play with total strangers. I never send one of my own to another player unless I know them personally.

The difference with Goat eyes is that they're super limited, and it's a pretty big decision to make. If someone wants a nest with different eyes or having one of their dragons trained, they have hundreds of players offering those services that they can choose from. Trustworthy nesting/leveling services often build a reputation over time, so if you see a long thread of satisfied customers, there's a lot less to worry about.

Not only are the Goat vials limited to 2 per player who accepts the gift, but only a fraction of them are willing to "sell" those vials in this manner. That severely limits your choices of players to trust, and you can't even rely on the same trustworthy person more than twice. Plus, if you adore a dragon enough to consider this expensive and hard-to-reverse decision, you're probably pretty darn attached to that dragon. If someone wanted to keep/resell the dragon, whether or not they actually used the vial, it would be a pretty stinging blow.

Though I'm personally holding onto my vials, I always try to be considerate and offer collateral when I'm holding someone else's dragons. I've never had my dragons stolen like this, but it's quite a legitimate fear no matter what you're sending them for.

For me personally, when it comes to breeding for eye type/color it's not a big deal. The parents are fodder and can be replaced.

However with the goat eyes, imagine sending your favorite dragon to some stranger with some money only for it tp end up stuck in their lair because they disappeared off to who knows where with your money.

well, that's why we have collateral! When I borrowed dragons for breeding or back before I had a coli team, I'd let the other person hold a dragon of mine.
