Kind of a weird question, but since FR has an impressive array of food/materials/familiars/etc aside from the standard coli loot, do you ever just get quite surprised by a thing you've never seen before?
I ask this because I always assume I've got a sizable hoard and have therefore an awareness of all of the items that exist, right? Wrong, there's always something obscure lurking behind the next Gathering level.
For example, when I found one (1) [item=ballroom urchin] somehow chilling in my hoard, my brain went blank for a moment trying to figure out if it really was a real item >_>;
No, I have no idea how it got there since I'm not even level 33 Fishing yet(???) as the wiki states...also, there are colour variants which are even more ever-so-slightly-surreal looking:
[item=sea heart][item=pebble collector urchin]

Ballroom Urchin
Seafood
Maintains a full shape without the use of a crinoline.

Sea Heart
Seafood
The sea heart is strong and stony, alone at the bottom of the sea; becomes putty in your claws when you hold it close.

Pebble Collector Urchin
Seafood
Pebble collector urchins are like pitted fruit. Chew with care!

Just looked through my hoard and found this:
[item=corycat]
When did I get this? What?!
Feed this to a cat named Cory and one can begin to peel back the layers of reality.

Not something I was surprised existed, but I recently found three full stacks of salt. I have no idea how I never saw those, nor how I never accidentally sold them.

I got a [item=ballroom urchin] a few days ago from Pinkerton, maybe that's where you got it.

Not a specific example but it's usually always a familiar drop in coli I missed. I'll be bonding and suddenly double back in confusion on a Wary among all my Companion+

[item=boxwood] Surprised me the first time I saw it in my hoard, thought it was some new item but it had apparently been out for a while.
Partially blind, mostly deaf, definitely odorous, and frustratingly stubborn, these subterranean critters are quite possibly Sornieth's worst pet. But just look at that face!

what are you. where did you come from. why are you here.
[i]Certain color variations of familiars have caught me off-guard before.
Like these guys, no idea they existed:[/i]
[item=Jawlocker][item=Sparkling Stinger][item=Grasslands Trunker][item=Bluetail Skira]
[i]Plus a variation of this which I can't find:[/i]
[item=Manticore]
[i]I think it was dark brown with white patterns??[/i]
Certain color variations of familiars have caught me off-guard before.
Like these guys, no idea they existed:
Jawlocker
Familiar
Jawlockers have sharper teeth than most dragons, and a bite just as powerful.
2900
Sparkling Stinger
Familiar
Also known as the poor dragon's Boolean.
2650
Grasslands Trunker
Familiar
This small, squat herbivore is almost too docile and cute to eat. You decide to take it back to the lair and bestow "all the cuddles."
2400
Bluetail Skira
Familiar
Believe it or not, the tint of this mammal's tail is not natural. Bluetail Skira spend much of their day lounging halfway into ponds and lakes where blue algae likes to mingle with their fur.

Plus a variation of this which I can't find:
Manticore
Familiar
It's a grand thing when a manticore deigns to hang around a dragon.
The venom from a Dunewind Manticore sting is potent enough to knock out an imperial dragon for several hours. (Colored by Asmo.)

The larails and lurefish from gathering made me go “wait, when’d [i]you[/i] show up?”
[item=tender larail][item=garden larail][item=lurefish][item=longjaw lurefish]
The larails and lurefish from gathering made me go “wait, when’d you show up?”
Tender Larail
Familiar
Tender Larails will consume all parts of a plant except the seeds, which they carefully bury.
1000
Garden Larail
Familiar
Larails are a gardener's nemesis. However, they will try and feed on the shells of their fellows, so populations never grow too large.
1000
Lurefish
Familiar
While not appealing to a dragon, its tendril is alluring to other fish.
1000
Longjaw Lurefish
Familiar
A lurefish is a cunning predator. They will burrow into soft mud until only their eyes and lure are exposed. They prey upon the birds who are attracted by their ruse.
