What're everybody's clans/lairs like? What do your clans do? Are they a 'normal' clan, so as to speak, or are they not really a clan that lives in a normal lair, so as much as a tavern/kingdom/newspaper company/laboratory/what have you?

My own clan is a cross between a think tank, a workshop and a research lab, with lots of individual workshops/laboratories for each dragon, and living quarters and amenities dotted throughout the lair. Most of the dragons their either work on research projects at their own pace, or invent gadgets and other stuff. Some of them have rather odd powers, and came here to better study and understand them. Others came here because they have different views than their clanmates on their elemental alignment, and went somewhere where they wouldn't be questioned for it. For example, I have a Nature dragon who's less focused on spreading life and more about making sure it stays healthy, and prefers to use methods that don't rely on magic in conjunction with his powers. At the time of his arrival, he's looking into genetic engineering, and other forms of biotech. He works with a Plague dragon who likes studying diseases, and disagrees with the more... extreme views that his former clanmates had with regards to spreading pestilence (they were basically a cult that focused on the Plaguebringer's habit of spreading disease and decay and venerated her as an embodiment of such, whereas Resheph believed that disease ultimately forces whatever is infected to either die or adapt and come out stronger in the process, and decay is needed in order to make room for life that is better adapted and stronger). So yeah, one's basically into biotech and genetic engineering, whereas the other's a pathologist. Oh, and sometimes, one of the dragons (usually Sternbilt or Stormsurge) will come across a hatchling or three, and take them back to the Phrontistery. (Other times, the hatchlings'll stumble across it themselves, and decide to stay...)

Tell me all about your lairs/clans!

That's a cool clan !
Mine's a mix. I've got a Leader couple + next leader in training, plenty of healers, generals (retired), warriors, some witches, some Ambassadors, sorcerers, etc, then I have this Light templar thing with another leader couple of priests, seers and acolytes.
And finally I have the misfit bunch that don't like the actual situation much and would love to do some kind of putsch but also like how they live and everything so they're just. plotting and being grouchy.

@Gula Dang, dude, it's really well thought out and detailed - I love the sheer depth and thought you've put into this, especially the classifications. I also like how the little tidbits sprinkled throughout give more information (I definitely did a double-take when I saw the bit about mages being struck mute).

@CirrusAscending They've yet to be fully fleshed, but they are the more religious of my Clan, practicing rites for the Lightweaver, making offerings, sweeping the altar and all. My only skydancer couple are my Ambassadors to Light, too, so they can listen to the physical part of Lightmom, as well as the spiritual one.

As for my two bogsneaks, they are faceted sisters who serves as prophetesses / spirit warden against the Shade.

I'm trying to finish the outfits of the two guardians priests, then I'll see about adding an honor guard in the mix (might be the two new spirals I got).

Oooh! Yeah, I definitely could see the Spirals as honor guards! My own Wind Spirals (Tedo and Calluna) are messengers, who came to the clan as little hatchlings. I have yet to write up their lore entries (as I'm still working on Asclepius and Resheph's entries), but the two of them are, well, basically textbook examples of Spiral Dragons at full tilt. Lore-wise, they decided to hitch a ride on a wind current one day, met each other along the way, and ended up at the Fulmineous Phrontistery, where they've been giving Zoroark (the clan's second in command) headaches ever since.

They are ridiculously foolhardy and brave, to the point where it almost borders on suicidal, (they once flew straight into the Abiding Boneyard to drop off a message as hatchlings without any safety precautions whatsoever), are fast enough to leave afterimages, and are really, really big eaters. They are also extremely mischievous, well aware of their speed, and enjoy using both to play pranks... and escape from their target's wrath.

They sounds super fun ! I'm not always sticking to the "real" behaviours of breeds (I've tried with the tundras and my Ridgeback Ondine) and I haven't that much goofy dragons.

Good luck writing their lore ! I found that giving them nice bios titles helps a bit :)

@Lema Haha, thank you! Quite a few of my dragons don't really stick to their breed/elemental-specific behaviour either, but they are good sources of inspiration when trying to come up with their personalities!

My clan are, on the surface, Tricktroupers and performers for the Shadow Festival. And while they definitely are passionate about performance art, their real purpose is witchcraft. Herbalism, fortune telling, alchemy, and trying to commune with Familiars and the Shadowbinder. They harbor reformed criminals too; my Erebos is an ex-thief. While the clan isn't 100% exclusively performers (we have farmers, soldiers, explorers, gatherers, etc) it's the general theme I like to use when introducing new perma-members.

As for what the lair is like, I imagine it's like any small settlement; the dragons who prefer a burrow have a big underground space dug out with individual rooms, and there's a few big above-ground constructions that the more dexterous of the clan are working on building. They're trying to make their own amphitheater/coliseum out of hewn stone and cut wood, but I need to hire/adopt a carpenter and a stonemason, not to mention a miner and a lumberjack.

I need to expand my lair so I can adopt more workers!

(I approach my clan's needs like a Dwarf Fortress, though. It helps me be creative and build a realistic functional clan.)
