Tbh I forget about it until one of those "buying fest currency!" posts pops up in items for sale and I just sell them all. They sell extremely slow on the ah once the festival has ended and I'm too impulsive to keep them around for a whole year lol
Also, some shops accept festival currency year-round so I also use it to buy art and stuff

Vault it and/or sell. Sell before the fest ends, of course. Like someone else said it's insanely slow to sell them any time but immediately before and during the fest itself.
