I buy gems fairly regularly, sometimes several small amounts a month. I'm by no means well off but I like supporting the game that has given me long term enjoyment (6+ years).
Yes I could earn it all ingame if I spent hours of my time every day grinding the coli or obsessively flipping items or dragons on the AH but that's not what I enjoy.
So my question is, of those users who are in a position to potentially buy gems or merchandise, do you? If you don't, any reason why?

I've bought several gems, and even merch when I've had enough money left over, but sometimes I'm in a tight unemployed spot and cannot buy for like, months and months. So always depends for me.

I've bought gems a few times and will probably do it again in the future.
I have a personal policy, that if a game is free and I've spent a lot of time on it and I really enjoy it, I see nothing wrong with supporting it economically. Plus, I'm using adblocker, so it's my way of paying the site back. I've also spent money on a few free mobile games that aren't too predatory about their microtransactions (like Pokemon Go).
I absolutly only do it, if I have the need for gems and/or I have the disposable income for the month.

I don't buy them super regularly. I have a decent amount in my vault, and when I get low I purchase some more. But only if I have some extra money at that time!

I did once, and that was a super out of the blue thing. Even still, I wouldn't consider it necessary to enjoy the game.

I could definitely buy gems. Not loads, but some. In a way, I'd like to in order to support the site... but I don't (which is why it'd take a major issue for me to turn on an adblocker).
The problem is that there's nothing I like to buy that is a reasonable amount of gems money-wise, and I'd also have to spend loads just to match what I can make onsite. I could buy $10 of gems, sure. That 1kg would make no noticeable dent in my savings for a 40kg+ 4-digit, and is less than I could earn in a couple days of art. The fact that I don't do art all that often doesn't seem to factor into it lmao.
On the non-logic side, I am all about challenges, and 'make this huge amount of ingame currency without out-of-game shortcuts' is just a Thing with me.

I think the 500g pack like three times, that's all
I don't have enough money to do that often but also, I feel like 5 dollars for 500g is way too much, seeing how little 500g is worth in game
