...how and why do you do it? Whether you’ve purged your lair one big time or do it periodically, what compels you to do so? I’m asking out of sheer curiosity and not wanting to be rude or anything ^^ no judgement here, just wanting to hear a different perspective.
I just can’t wrap my head around purging when I get a little sad exalting anything I own that isn’t either a breeding project reject/no longer needed to breed or was bought from the fodder floor for the sole purpose of training and exalting. I recently exalted a few basic-looking dragons I bought as a newbie that were just taking up space in my Hibernal and that I didn’t see myself really doing much with nor see anyone else wanting to take off my hands. Even that was sort of a downer even though the extra space (which I’m constantly running out of) for future dragons I’m more passionate about feels pretty nice. Those were just very average dragons that would have likely ended up as fodder anyway if someone else had happened to buy them. I couldn’t imagine getting rid of a large number of dragons at once that I had spent a considerable amount of time on and/or been super attached to at some point.
Also, what do you do with all the dragons you purge? Sell them to earn cash for new pretties? Give them away to new homes that might have new and fresh plans for them? Exalt then all at once and be done with it? I still can’t really see myself doing this in the first place but I figure if I ever did want to get rid of a lot at once, I’d at least like them to have a chance at a home that appreciates them as much as I did at one time before yeeting them at the deities...lol.
ETA: I am not actually planning on purging my lair. I have a lot of dragons that I'm attached to and consider permanent. The only thing I can see myself getting rid of en masse anytime soon are breeding project related dragons once those projects end ^^'

Never be afraid to ping me!
I keep wanting to purge, but have not been able to as well. ^^; I've only managed to hand off a few perma dragons here and there, like 1 or 2 every year or to that small number.
I suppose, for myself, the biggest motivation is to get more space for uniquely coloured dragons, more cohesive breeding pairs for an improved hatchery concept, and use that space more efficiently for dom/other purposes rather than dragon hoarding.
If I were to actually purge, I'd probably do this in order of priority: Level to at least 10 and attempt to sell them, then give them away/donate to established same-flight members, and finally exalt if I really needed them off my hands.

I have purged my lair three times except for one dragon which yous ee is Squall. i suually do the nuzlocke lair challenge and that usually works. but I can't ever get through since I eventually find goals to go after. again. Lol

I've done about.... 5 purges? Maybe i dunno. I keep exalting a ton of dragons after splurging on them lol
Usually for me it's just simply about whether or not I've fallen out of love with them, or i feel they aren't worth keeping around anymore. Or long term projects that have become draining over time or ones that have been on the back burners for months.
You just have to ask yourself, " Do i like this dragon enough to keep it?"
About selling them, i usually keep them on the ah for what i feel is a reasonable price. If they don't sell in a week, i exalt them.

I did two big purges, one when changing my flight (Nature->Light) and I gave them all to an?ther friend in Nature so they'd get exalted and be on the Nature Pillar. The other was like a couple months ago, I was quitting to spend less time online, I gave them all away, put one or two into my den and logged off. I got some of those babs back from my friends, but the rest are gone, yeet

Put every dragon you're thinking about purging in a tab at the very end of your lair (or hibernal den if you really want to not see them all the time). Leave them there for three weeks or so. Do not look at them even once.
If by the end of that three weeks/month you find yourself missing a dragon specifically, by name, and accurately remember what it looks like, you may keep it. If you didn't, they leave.
I've used that method probably ten times. It's good stuff.

My lair desperately needs a purge
But
I'm too attached to my pixels
I suppose some people don't develop those connections as strongly, or they realise that the monetary gain is worth more than keeping the dragons

I haven't done a big purge, but once in a while I throw out dragons that just aren't exciting anymore. during AvN I'll yeet 3 dragons that I once wanted to dress up and turn into permas, but I don't like them as much as I used to. After having them in my hibernal den for over a month and not really caring about them being "gone" I don't particularly feel bad about exalting them either

I’ve done a few purges, haven’t done one in a while tho. If I fell outta love, I’m gonna Yeet it. Sometimes I feel bad but it’s ok, if I regret it I can unexalt.

I do the undress, move to back of lair trick to determine if I love the dragon or the accent/outfit it's wearing -- in most cases, I find it a lot easier to go eh I don't really miss that dragon. (but sometimes I do miss a specific one so I redress and return it to front of lair).
It helps that I like having small groups of dragons (my goal was 20/page and I have grown to 28/page so things gotta move in next ice battle).
