I saw the new apparel update, and I’ve gotta say, im really disappointed . Don’t get me wrong, I love flight rising and I’ve been playing it for years, but I feel like the flight rising team is sorta setting themselves up for, I wouldn’t say failure, but they’re making their jobs harder and coming up with solutions to problems that could’ve been avoided in the first place. I honestly hate Gaolers. It’s not because of their design, it’s just because I think the “ancient breed” thing was kinda stupid. The whole setup with different genes and the AH and scrying workshop for them is a total nightmare. They can’t even wear apparel, but I honestly wouldn’t want to know how the apparel system would work. Everything regarding Gaolers is really messy. I know that they have to draw a lot of apparel for a new breed, but they set themselves up for it. Flight rising used to be a lot better in terms of relevant and fun updates instead of just re-colored apparel like the newest and pretty much all of the updates nowadays. Thoughts?

I really do like FR, but I thought I’d state my opinion and see what others have to say as well.

I'm pretty much okay with all of the updates that have taken place so far, minus one part regarding the Hibernal Den: The fact that you have to trade genes, eggs, and breed changes for (1) den slot each X') I would've preffered all of the slots just simply been 50g each.

Other than that, there are no complaints from me (that I can think of, or that are really anything great enough that I feel the need to voice publicly) right now.

I mean, I like goalers, but I can see what you mean with being disappointed with the "new" apparel. I just want something that isn't lace/flowers/silks. I want more armor, weapons, and spooky apparel. When's the last apparel set that WASN'T something to do with flowers or silks or awkward looking dresses? A lot of my dragons don't fit the feminine apparel, so I'm always left disappointed with the countless recolors. Especially since we've been told that we don't even have another modern breed to look forward to, so it's not just "Oh, bear with it, we'll be getting a new breed soon!" anymore. Everyone thought the recolors were in prep for a new breed, but those hopes were crushed. If the new modern breed is years away, how long will we have to put up with these countless recolors?

Just please no more silks. Anything but silks.

personally, I feel like they're just trying their best to make everyone happy. Imagine all the hard work they had to go through in order to come up with the Ancient breed stuff, do all the art, AND keep other updates regularly spaced. If you think the Ancient concept is stupid, just keep in mind that the staff are just trying to cut down on a huge amount of work for themselves. Would you have preferred no new breed for several years, even with the artists working as hard as possible, or a potentially "stupid" route that allowed staff to be less overworked?

In other words, this isn't about the implementation of New FR, this is about PEOPLE trying their best to make OTHERS happy. After all, they listen to us. They give us the updates we want. Although it's difficult at times, they do their best, even though it may show in childish storylines, I believe we have to respect them for all that they do for us and this game.

After all, we're all people aren't we?

I'm a newer player than you (from 2017) so I'm not sure how the oldest updates used to be, but personally I'm fine with the current system. Regular and often weekly updates with new content and not just bug fixes are pretty rare in games, so I don't think it's viable to expect new and interesting things every week. The current system where they use two color updates for one apparel set is an okay solution. It decreases the amount of time without updates and keep the market interesting with new items.

Regarding gaolers, they're more boring than a modern breed because of the apparel, but it's still a good solution regarding the problem with new breeds and apparel. It's taking so long for a new modern breed, and using ancients will fill up the empty space and create more diversity thoughout the game. Regarding the exclusive genes for gaolers, I do think there's definitely room for improvement in the user interface to make searching and scrying easier. I don't really think this is a problem with ancient breeds, but more with the user interface that still seems to be catered solely towards modern breeds.

All in all, gaolers aren't the perfect solution since they can't breed or wear apparel, but I wouldn't know a better solution. Release less apparel? I wouldn't want this personally. Do nothing? I think it's really boring to rarely release new modern breeds. The time will only increase because of new apparel.

Honestly, I think FR has been getting better. I've not been here for as long as others granted, but there are definite changes which I'm sure glad to see.

Lair tabs the the hibernal den, for starters. We got those just this year, and that was a BIG change which a vast majority of the userbase was very excited for. People had been asking for lair tabs for years, and I personally have found the den to be a saving grace when it comes to food.

Keybinds for the coli when that revamp happened is another great example. Improved accessibility for disabled users, which is ALWAYS a good thing. And oh boy, the quality-of-life improvements that kaepora has been bumping out recently have been BRILLIANT. Thank you owl.

Things that are in the works look good too. I'm very excited for the world map update, which will expand lore, give the art a much needed update and FINALLY let us have full control over where our clan is located within our flight. The achivements revamp is on the horizon too which should be fun. I'm not much of a completionist or anything but even I'm looking forwards to that.

And I don't think the way they handle apparel releases is bad either. Honestly it makes more sense to me. If you spread the same amount of content out over a certain period of time instead of dumping it all at once and leaving people waiting between each dump, general satisfaction will be higher. I think it also gives the artists a bit more wiggle room to create more recolours which I'm very much in support of.

I understand the issue with gaolers, but in all honesty it's probably the best approach. The staff can only manage so many people on their team, and those people can only do so much work. Ancient breeds are a good solution to the very clear problem with breed releases as the amount of apparel and genes onsite grows.

There's been some very definite.... bumps.... along the way, but over the last year or so I think the staff have shown themselves very capable of excellent things.

I like the ancient breeds because they boost the economy with new genes and dragons and allow new possibilities in lore and making fandragons. Modern breeds are still going to be released but ancients are here so new breeds can still be released at a decent rate, which I am not opposed to. I don't have opinions on the apparel because I haven't been here long enough to see many apparel drops.

The scrying workshop and dragon search is a mess with genes. I think there should be an option to select either modern breeds or an ancient breed so it would only show genes compatible with that breed rather than having to scroll through a huge list of genes.

That and buying genes on the AH is a hassle because if I want tiger, I'm going to get results for tiger gaoler too and there's nothing I can do about it because I can't search "tiger modern" to get tiger for modern breeds.

I would certainly love to see more interesting and creative updates rather than updates that consist entirely of "this drops in the coli sometimes so you should go do that" because I don't mind grinding and it's nice to have the possibility of a rare drop but it's not fun when all I can do is battle dragons and browse the forums.

I dunno, I disagree. Flight Rising has been around for 6 years now and all signs point to it still having a future. The devs have made many intelligent decisions (ancient breeds being one of them) that will ensure that we still get regular content without the staff dealing with too much crunch. Thanks to this, the staff are probably more like to stay and be able to work on the site in the future. [/quote] So would you rather that we only get a new breed every 3+ years with nothing in between? That they crunch their artists to the point of injury/quitting so we can get a new breed every year? That they stop releasing apparel? The ancient breeds are the staff's way of dealing with what they "set themselves up for" without compromising their artists health or new apparel releases. Even if ancient breeds aren't my thing I can understand and respect that the staff are focused and committed to the health of both their employees and the site. [emoji=new friend size=1] I do agree that the Scrying Workshop needs an overhaul though, it is pretty gnarly to use lol.

I don’t like apparel. It’s expensive and think it looks stupid in most cases, and I hate how it feels kind of expected these days-as if a dragon can’t be pretty without it. I like gaos for exactly that reason, and they’re significantly cheaper to fully gene. I can show them off without feeling like I’m not fitting in because they’re naked.

Sure they set themselves up for the situation, and I think coming out with ancients is a fair solution to it. Because the other hand would involve no new breeds anytime soon and perpetual catch up for genes and apparel. Saying they could’ve avoided it altogether doesn’t solve the problem now, hindsight being 20/20 and all that.

I don’t think searching for and buying those genes is really that much more difficult. They did a pretty good job in clearly labeling them, and they even have different icons. You just gotta pay an eensie more attention. Course, there’s only the one ancient right now. Things might get more complicated if more than one ancient has overlapping modern genes. I would think they could change the search to allow for easier searches within gene types. Scrying workshop is dependent on the device you’re using. It’s a bit crazy to scry gaos on say an IPad, but it’s really simple and condensed on my windows tablet- so that’s more of an optimization thing probably.

But I’ve only been here a couple months, I don’t have any nostalgia goggles for how it used to be. I’m pretty happy with how things are.

I actually really like all the apparel recolors, they give me more options for outfits (and can save me a ton of money with cheaper options)

The ancients are pretty cool, I agree it’s disappointing they can’t wear apparel but I can understand it. I’m excited to see all the apparel accents people come up with for them.
