So, I’ve started a new gene project. I need python/bee/spines. I want to earn everything by myself, since I think it’s going to be a fun challenge (plus the dragon I’m giving it the genes to will look AMAZING)
So I wanted to know if anybody has had any luck with finding genes in any venues. I’ve been in the training fields, but it’s getting really boring and I’m no longer getting apparel or familiars. I want to get as many familiars and apparel as I can so I can sell them for treasure and gems.

Coliseum addict here, let me share my experiences.
I've only ever gotten an Eliminate once, and that was from the Arena. The Arena is generally known for being best for battle stones.
In general, familiar drops can vary wildly. You're more likely, however, to get them from earlier venues, through sheer number of enemies defeated.
Eggs are more common during festivals. I got 2 fire eggs during the last festival, and during the Wavecrest in 2018 I got 3 eggs, one wind and two water. If you're looking to get eggs, I'd advise you to try aiming for a coliseum venue between Scorched Forest and Redrock Cove in difficulty. I've never gotten eggs from venues with higher or lower levels than that (as I recall).
As far as genes, I've had the most luck with the Mire, the Blooming Grove, and the Woodland Path. I got my Pythons from Blooming Grove and my Morph genes from all three. I haven't run into a Gaoler gene yet, but I hope to soon.
The best way to get RNG to favour you is to not pay attention. I'd bet you a dollar the moment you stop staring at it it'll start dropping things left and right so that you miss getting them.
If you're at a lower level and you want to farm for genes, I suggest Woodland Path. Even if you don't get any genes, Blushing Pink Roses sell for a pretty penny, so you should make enough to get what you want.

Honestly, this is so true. When I would be grinding and thinking in my head "I hope I get an egg, or Eliminate!" or "Eliminate is going to drop next round, called it," nothing ever good dropped. On the flip side, when I went in grinding looking for nothing in particular, and not really paying attention to the screen, bam, Rally drops. Not looking for an egg? Well here you go anyway.

This. I spent the entirety of July one year trying to get a Golem Workshop boss to drop and had no luck.
I went in there for a bit of casual farming months later; my first battle was against a Frost Delver and the familiar dropped after the battle was over.

I got three elims from the scorched forest :) i had a couple of drops elsewhere but this is my lucky venue

For "I Know That Reference", all dragons (minus Level 25s & Fodders) are fandergs within my lair :)
Bosses ONLY drop when you don't want them. Starsilks apparently only drop from neutrally-aligned enemies while eggs and runestones only drop from those with elements, so if you want starsilk > egg, head for scorched forest or redrock cove over other venues.
