So, I know a lot of people love this update and I hate being a negative nancy but...
Imma bout to cry. I spent so much time making one of my dragon's outfits PERFECT for their character, and now that the wings have changed, it doesn't fit them anymore :((( Like, at all.
The wings have changed so much. Too much imo.
The wings in this update look so, so bad to me. Like, at first glance they're okay, but (imo, of course) they lay over the wings very strangely, and they clip horribly on a few breeds. The old wings didn't follow the wing pattern, so they looked very steampunk-y and rigid, these new ones look more sci-fi, with the glowy dots and "feather" layout.
The update overall looks very flat, too. Where's the shine that the old set had? A lot of the colors have been slightly (or completely, in a few pieces) altered too, making it look out of place and wonky on a great many dragons.
And you know what the best part is?
Just like with the bow set, when they did this exact same thing and got backlash for it, they're never going to release a "legacy" set. They're going to keep making massive updates to things that have remained constant on this site for years with absolutely no warning. Why couldn't they have posted a poll and asked our feelings on it? Why couldn't they have just released the new set as a separate set, and left the old artwork for those who wanted it?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate them trying to improve the site, but what is with the lack of communication? If they had simply just, y'know, communicated with us all before doing this, then there would have been no problem. If they would have listened to us after the many previous times they've done stuff like this, they would release the new update as a separate set and keep the old artwork, but FR never listens to us :( It's very frustrating as a player.

id support legacy sets if it werent for the fact that once a new modern breed releases
they wouldnt be able to replicate the old style
and if they did keep the old styles then everything will just become cluttered and messy
especially if in lets say 5 more years the steampunk set for an example will need another revamp
so we have 1. the og steampunk 2.steampunk revamped 3.steampunk revamped 2.0
its going to be messy with all this same apparel laying around with slight tweaks

Yeah I feel the same way as well, the wings especially kinda look either too spread out or too flat...I widely use the steampunk set so now my dragons look weird. But I'll just let them sit for a while, to look at them more objectively. Maybe it's just change. Change isn't very welcome but eventually we get used to it and even grow to like them!

I knew this update had to be coming (and fortunately only one of my dragons needs a new outfit from it*) but it's still really disappointing to see how different some of it looks now- I understand the need to modernize the art but they could keep it as a lineart/shading update and the apparel would still look better but without the massive change to everyone's dragons.

Literally every other pet site would have had a poll before doing something like this, but FR doesn't really seem to care. At least, that's the precedent they've set with how many times they've done this now.

I wish they'd keep a legacy set for the wings. They don't even HAVE to use the same old art! Just redraw them with the same shape they had before, like it's not that hard if they can draw an entire new set....
I wish we had options between the new and old wings. The new wings clip over the accent on one of my robot dragons and I'm sad

Keeping the old art would defeat the purpose entirely of updating the art. The whole point is to make the art style consistent across the site, not leave old wonky art up along with it. And they probably chose not to communicate because they know it is the overall best thing for the site to have a modern, consistent art style, and these professional artists & game designers’ decision on this matter should not be beholden to a player-base with a majority of non-artists

I estimate that this new update effected 40%-50% of my dragons. And each and every one of them will now need to be changed and altered.
I am devastated.
No warning, no poll, no casual, "hey guys, this will be changing so save your dragon's images now!"
If they keep insisting on changing things to "stay current" they will lose a great many users, including me.
