TOPIC | Stuck with a gen1 WC and it's awkward

Greetings fellow dragon hoarders! So, I have a problem. The problem comes as a gen1 WC in my lair...that isn't actually mine. This lad here doesn't pay rent and he doesn't work either. To explain this, I do coliseum training (well, usually I do, lately I have been too caught up in real life stuff) for fellow users. So I trained two dragons for a user, two gen1s to be exact, a Spiral and the gentleman you are seeing here. I finished the Spiral, sent it back, all went well. Then, I needed a bit longer for the WC than expected (as in, a few days, not weeks or even months), because of said real life issues. I messaged the user, apologized for taking longer, and said they could have the whole training for free, and send the dragon back in a one-way CR. They didn't react. But that's okay, because I thought, hey, I needed a few days longer to finish the training, I won't rush them now to accept the CR. After a few days however, I checked their profile, and saw this broadcast message "semi hiatus, not well" I thought, "Oh dear, hope they will feel better soon". And waited some more. After a while, I decided to cancel the trade, put the dragon in the Hib Den, and told them in a PM about the whereabouts of their dragon, so they wouldn't get a heart attack when they came back and didn't see it in my lair. Problem is...That was on the 8th September. All in all it has been a little over two weeks now, three weeks maybe (I don't remember exactly how long I waited till I cancelled the CR). I have yet to receive any reaction or indication that they plan on coming back. Of course real life comes first, and I really hope they are okay and I don't want to add to their struggles, but...I really don't know what to do with that dragon. Even though I put him in the Hib Den, he still takes up a lair slot I could kinda use for other dragons. :'D I am aware dragon hosting and training services like that are not supported by the rules and guidelines, so I know that nothing like, magically beaming the dragon into its original lair can be done. But I am not a dragon hotel and, as much as I feel for the person if they aren't doing well, I don't wanna keep it around forever. I don't particularly like it, otherwise I guess I'd just showcase it in my lair for now and give it some nice outfit. It is a neat dragon, just not my kinda thing. But giving it away feels so wrong as well, because I keep thinking, what if they come back and then their dragon is gone? Then I would have made them feel even more miserable... Which is exactly the reason why I am gonna keep the little freeloader around I guess. Maybe I will warm up to him after all and treat him as one of my own till the original owner comes back... Some nice apparel can do wonders. I suppose I just wanted to share my experience and maybe see if others have went through similar stuff as well, be it as the person who ended up with a freeloading reptile like that as well, or maybe people who left their dragon with someone else and then went on a hiatus/didn't have access for a while. Also sorry for this being so long, kinda wanted to get it off my chest. :'D

I've never gone through anything like this - but it's not a great situation all around. I personally would hold the dragon for a little while longer, as it hasn't been quite a month since you tried to contact the other user. I know I would feel absolutely horrible to come back from an unplanned hiatus and find my dragon either exalted or sold like that.

But it is a burden on you. Ultimately I can't tell you how long to wait, but I'd say give it at least a month, and see how things go from there.

honestly? I think that you should wait a month, and if they don’t come back, and if you don’t get attached to him, you should sell him. it’s not up to you to waste lair space n stuff, and it’s their own fault for leaving without word. of course, theres always the possibility that something out of their control has stopped them from coming back so it’s a scary dilemma

Perhaps they have a friend on the site you could contact to take the dragon for now? Otherwise, you might have to resort to waiting til they come back...

@Pressia Yeah, I mean, I do feel it's kind of my fault as well. Maybe they would have seen the CR in time if I had sent it a day or two earlier. And yes, I agree. That's also why I don't want to give it away or sell it just like that. They seem to struggling, and then to come back and having their valuable (and clearly well-loved, considering there's lore and art) dragon gone...I really don't want to do that to them. :/ I would appreciate just a little message from them, just a small sign of life of sorts, but then again, I struggle with mental health issues and while I do not know if that is the reason for their hiatus (nor it is any of my business), I know that sometimes, even the smallest task is too much. Thanl you very much for your advice! [emoji=coatl laughing size=2]I will definitely wait some more, and, like I said, try to warm up to him a bit, so it doesn't feel as much as a burden to have him around. [emoji=coatl tongue size=2]

You could try dressing him up too. Give him a fancy or silly outfit and you can pretend he's just trying to fit in until he goes home? Might help you warm up to him at least.

I have five gajilllion den spots, I don't mind housing him. Normally I'd be all "He's yours now, do whatever" but it sounds like they intend to be back when they feel better. Been there, done that. Just tell them where you sent him, and I will too, if you choose to take me up on the offer :-)

Personally I’d hold onto him or find somebody I trust to hold onto him in their den.

@torture Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Both the fact that it's on the owner to notify the other person if they are going on a hiatus, but also the fact that sometimes, certain things may prevent a person from doing so. Then again, they obviously were able to write that little broadcast message, so, I dunno... Still, I don't want to make them feel even more terrible if they are indeed struggling with something, so...Not sure what to do. I will probably wait till the end of this month or maybe a little longer, and then see how I feel about the dragon. Kinda hoping to get attached to him, that would makes things easier :'D Thanks for your input! @Cormag Oh, I haven't even thought about that, but that's actually a good idea, I will look into that! Will have to be careful because it can be kinda hard to tell who is actually a close friend and who's just a random person in the friends list...wouldn't want to end up giving the dragon to someone who turns out to be more or less of a stranger to them and then won't give it back to them upon their return. But I might ask around and maybe one of them knows where else to contact them or something. Again, thank you! :) @Furiku Yeah, I am probably gonna try that, thank you so much! :) I mean, he -is- a Wildclaw and I love these fellas, I just don't really dig his gene combo, haha. But some nice apparel might cover that up. @SCB Thank you so much for your offer to help! :D I might take you up on it depending on how long they will be gone. Just a little unsure if they'd approve of that. Nothing against you, mind you, like I said, I appreciate the offer, but they might feel a little irked that they gave a dragon to someone and that person then just sent it to someone else, you know? Might even scare them a little at first. Still, I really appreacite your offer! [emoji=guardian happy size=2]

if it were me i'd probably just stick him in hib den for a couple of months (possibly longer if i forgot about him) because i'd feel bad about getting rid if the owner's off due to illness. but i don't have space issues - it'd just be one less fodder space to me.

maybe you could see if anyone else would hold him if the owner doesn't come back in a week or two?
