how many times have I come to the forums seeking advice on my lair theme now?? three times? four times? I've lost track

Okay so right now I'm very satisfied with the dragons in my lair. Or rather, the dragons they'll be once they're finished, of course. Right now they all look like fodder lmao

But I've been thinking about getting myself a gen1 only lair for some time. I mean, I'd probably keep my gen2+ somewhere in another tab and or the hibernal den if I did. I still love those dragons, but obviously, g e n o n e s.

But now I've also been thinking: what if an aesthetic gen1 lair? No matter how much I love my dragons, their colors and themes are still all over the place. I know people love aesthetics and I think it would look cool, but I also have no idea what the aesthetic would be. I have a difficult time committing to themes because I find all sorts of dragons pretty.

Obviously, I could go for the soft whites-browns-yellows aesthetic, which I do like very much (yellow is my favorite color) but a lot of people use it and I'd like to stand out. Monotones would be cool because I like neutral colors and they work with pretty much anything, but that could get dull. Blacks and purples might work, but again, not my favorite aesthetic. The flight I want to join is wind, and I do love those soft sage eyes, but the color scheme would be way too tight. Just looking at my lair, I seem to favor blues and greens a bit, I don't know about that though as a lot of the shades you have to get just right for them to work. An autumn aesthetic might be cool, with yellows/greens/oranges/reds/browns and maybe a little pink, but that might be too diverse to call an aesthetic. Icy aesthetic is also cool, but very limiting, and...
gah.

Well thanks for reading my rant. Any advice?

You could just have different tabs for the different aesthetics? I find it far too limiting so my dragons are a mixed bunch, but there's definitely something calming about seeing a bunch of dragons w/ similar colors grouped together haha

Agreed, themed lairs that stick to an aesthetic look very pretty. However it's extremely limiting IMO, and I personally don't think I could commit to just one theme as my tastes are constantly shifting. My lair's also a big WIP and will probably continue to be one for a long time, but when I gene up some more permas I'll probably try organizing by color as it's the only way for me to get a smidgen of lair cohesion. (Before I tried to become a g1 lair I organized by color which wasn't all that bad, although I'm still trying to come up with a prettier way to organize without the restraints of an overall theme.)

I have different tabs for different themes, but “themes” for me are rather broad. A couple dragons could really be on a couple of different tabs, but some could only be on one. My den is much less organized just because I don’t feel like buying more tabs for back there.

I’ll probably be adding a new tab soon, my Market Street tab has been becoming more and more neutral/autumn colors so my bright colored dragons might need to move.

I love all of these different dragons and I really like keeping them organized in a way that makes sense, you can definitely separate by themes with tabs.

I have a few "main" aesthetics in my lair and so I keep them all in separate tabs. And I like having a set aesthetics because it just makes me happy seeing all the matchy colors :>

Honestly just do what feels right for you! It took me a while to decide on how I want my lair too look so it's a process

I currently am developing a all gen1, earth flight, earthy aesthetic which I am really in love with. It’s a lot of work, but aesthetic can be really fun, and if the gen1 hoarders are taking you hostage, there’s so point in resisting. I do think the whole flight things is a bit ridiculous, and I’m only going for mainly earth flight. It’s kind of like a way to not buy every dragon ever.

I’d recommend a sort of aesthetic that can vary. For example within the earth aesthetic there’s the traditional browns, oranges, yellows, greys, some reds, some blacks, as well as a crystal-y aesthetic, (purples, blues, greens, pinks) so I can really have a ton of variation while still having an aesthetic. :)

I don't have a themed lair but...I think one element theme can be just as limiting as any other element. Ice is only 'very limiting' if you see it that way.

I guess I would suggest asking yourself why a theme is even important in the first place. If it isn't then just keep the dragons you like instead of giving yourself strict boundaries that you'd rather step over than have fun maintaining.

Though my Clan's Lore is originally basically based off the Knights of the Round Table and medieval knights in general, honestly my Clan does very little to stick to that theme, imao. Though I personally do have a couple of Dragons that can fit the original theme, such as my Progen Galiwyth, beyond that my Clan is very, very diverse. And honestly I'm totally okay with that; thought fully themed Lairs can be fun and aesthetically pleasing to look at, I agree that it's also very limiting. So on that note, I'm fine with having my chaotically organized Lair, with Flight Ambassadors being the wrong Flight and Dragons of all colors, sizes, etc. thrown together in the potluck, lol. But I also agree, if I were ever to do actual 'themes', I would do it by tab. To be fair, I kind of already did something similar (like most of my 'darker' Dragons are in the Catacombs Tab, while many of my more nature-y and earth-y Dragons are in the Artisans' Forums), so I would suggest that if you still want some type of diversity instead of strictly sticking to one theme.

My lore tabs are really aesthetic-y while my main clan tab is all over the place with different kinds of dragons. Tabs really help with organizing and creating an aesthetic without having to go with just one theme across your whole lair - unless, of course, that's what you want to do, in which case all power to you.

as i make the move to a gen1 lair and only buy specific gen1s (this is to help me not constantly impulse buy dragons, it's working so far), I think I'll be organizing mine by color. Although one cohesive theme looks the best imo, I'd never be able to be THAT #aesthetic so I'll deal with having separate pages for different shades of colors, or they'll be in a rainbow mode on one page. haven't decided yet.
