TOPIC | TROLL PROOF! How to make/use a pinglist.
1 2
How’s it going? So whenever I go on the forums and there are pinglists being used, it’s always this tired method of “comment and I’ll add you!”, and I’d like to change that.
What will I be showing you today? I’ll show you how to use Google Forms and Google Sheets for the ultimate ease pinglist!

Now I know what you will say, “But with a spreadsheet trolls will just ruin a self adding pinglist!!”.
FEAR NOT! This method is troll proof!
WHAT IS THE METHOD?
You will use google forms for your data collecting, and sheets for storage!
Yes, this is a self adding pinglist, but not the way you think it is! Through this guide I will show you the steps to make a self editing form, and how to get all those names into a sheet for easy storage!
I shall add pictures at a later date.
MAKING THE FORM
Go to “https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/” to make a new form.
  1. Click the white box with a purple plus labeled “blank” to create a new form.
  2. Title your form “___ Pinglist” or whatever.
  3. Click the “untitled question”.
  4. Click where it says “Multiple choice”
  5. Change that to either “Short answer” or “Paragraph”, whichever you choose doesn’t matter.
  6. Go to the bottom corner, while still having the question active, you will see a thing labeled “Required”, turn it on. This will make it so this question must be answered before submission.
  7. Click “Untitled Question” and give it a name. Put something like “Put your FR Username here (Add an @)”.
  8. You can see a bar at the side, with a “+” inside a circle, two “T”s, and etc.
  9. Click the “+” if you wish to add another question, like optional comments. You don’t need to make these required, unless you want to for something else.
  10. In the menu at the top next to the big “SEND” button, click the gear.
  11. In “general” click the option box that says “Limit to 1 response”, this is to stop repeat answers.
  12. Still in general, click the option that says “Edit after submit”, this is in case respondents need to change their answer, like in the case of a name change. They just have to clicl the form link again to edit it.
  13. At the top of the form, there are words like “QUESTIONS” and “RESPONSES”. Click on “RESPONSES”.
  14. In the top right corner, there is a green block. Click it. This will bring up a menu.
  15. Here you will choose what spreadsheet your responses will land in. If you have a spreadsheet ready, click the second option and choose it. If not, click the first option and name your sheet. It will then open in a new tab.
SENDING THE FORM
Click the “SEND” button at the top.
  1. Click the “link” icon after the envelope.
  2. Click the “shorten link URL” option.
  3. Copy the link.
  4. Add to your thread.

You are done! Yep, that’s all it takes! Go on and make better pinglists now!

This is great! I always figured there was some way to make pinglists work with forms, but I couldn't figure out a good way to get it working. This should work great!

Is there any way for the user to remove themselves from the pinglist though? Or does that have to be a manual operation?
