TOPIC | Games you dislike that everyone loves?

A random videogame discussion I suppose. Are there any popular or well loved games out there that you personally dislike or think is overrated for whatever reason? Tell us about it and why you dislike it!

It only counts if you've actually played the game or watched lets plays so you can form your own opinion on what you've seen of the game itself, rather than going by a fandom's reputation!

And please, be respectful towards other posters here, we don't want any hostility or drama due to differing opinions, thanks!

People are probably going to hate me for this, but I didn't like Skyrim much and think it's very overrated. I have the inferior PS3 version and found it to be a very boring, laggy, glitchy slog of a game with an awful navigation system that led me to getting lost or falling off cliffs and dying most of the time, short, predictable and anticlimatic main plot (once I actually found out what questline the actual plot is supposed to be) and final main plot boss battle that was far too easy and unsatisfying. Since finishing the main plot, I've no interest in doing any of the sidequests or whatever and got bored of running around aimlessly exploring the ladscape and looking for dragons. Also, pretty much everything in that game makes me jump, the wolves and spider drones in particular have a nasty habit of sneaking up behind me..

Another one I just throught to include, though I'm not sure how popular this particular game is, the MGS series is well loved and I myself am a big fan of these games, but.. Metal gear solid V: The phantom pain. I did not enjoy this game. I was looking forward to it, only to be very disappointed. There was some nice stuff going on gameplay wise and I liked the buddy system, but what happened to the great story MGS fans came to expect from a Metal gear title? The first mission with the hospital escape started off (in my personal opinion) really interesting and set the tone for another great hare brained MGS adventure, but after that strong intro, there was very little in terms of actual story, and what plot there was felt ridiculously rushed.. Also, the mission list layout was a mess and made it confusing as to what you're meant to be doing next. Main plot missions had been hidden among the side missions, and things that should have been listed as side missions were lumped in with the main campaign missions etc. I have yet to finish this game, although I'm very close to it, I just don't have the desire to keep playing and see it through to the end like like I did the rest of the series.

Also, anything played in first person perspective. You could have a great game with a great story here and I wouldn't touch it. First person makes me feel dizzy, and I like to know what the player character looks like.

There's a pattern emerging here isn't there? My main issues with these games are story related XD

Undertale.
The plot bores me and i hate how everyone praises it because it challenges the "FPS agenda" or whatever. I like to play game with shooting and violence, so what? I don't need someone to be an elitist because enjoy violent games.

My roommate pokes fun at me for being a hipster who just doesn't want to like popular games, but I just genuinely dislike the mechanics of the game. I tried to play it, and I disliked it. Also the Mass Effect series. I just don't like space.

@VashTheStampede Yeah Skyrim was pretty glitchy and buggy enough on the normal versions but the PlayStation version was completely messed up and rushed making it MASSIVELY glitchy and almost unplayable. The solution is to get the PC version and install mods as mods are your friend. (Not that that's an excuse for the lazy port but that's really the only thing you can do, there's no real way to "fix" the broken-ness of the PS3 port.) Just letting you know that the people praising it are certainly not talking about the playstation version, most of them are talking about the PC version where you can fix just about every single issue with the game thanks to the absolutely massive modding community Skyrim has.

Also @Somnacin if you don't like Undertale that's fine, it was sort of targeted to a specific audience anyway, but "challenges the FPS agenda"? What? Who's telling you that because Undertale doesn't challenge anything relating to FPS, what it does "challenge" (Atleast in my opinion anyway) is the RPG stereotype where despite being called RPGs (acronym for Role Playing Games) you do next to no Role Playing in them and you just grind off of enemies for forever and a half in the most efficient way possible to achieve the max level as soon as possible. (See just about every single MMO out there.)

Now as for me personally... I don't really have a game that I dislike that everyone loves, I mean I do not like certain games as much as other people do (Fallout 4) but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy them and like them in my own ways. I guess Call of Duty but that's a cop-out, I mean who doesn't dislike CoD at this point? Besides I never actually played CoD I just dislike it for it's business practice of releasing just about the same game every single year with next to no improvements or changes... I guess the biggest real contender for the title that isn't a cop-out like CoD is Payday 2... or at least it was, with the most recent update released with the safes a lot of people started disliking the game, but I didn't really like it that much even before then. I don't really have a clear reason as to why... I just... didn't.

I should note that (at least for me) it's perfectly fine to like a game that I dislike, if you can find enjoyment or more enjoyment in something I personally couldn't then hey, good for you! No hard feelings but I just personally don't like it as much as you, but I hope that doesn't stop you from liking it yourself. This thread (at least I hope) isn't meant to shame people who like these games rather it's meant more to take out our frustrations on not being able to find enjoyment in what others could so please don't take any of these sayings personally and continue liking what you do like.

i was about to come bust in and shout undertale from the top of my lungs but it seems i have been beaten to the punch.

that said, the plot is boring, i hate the pixel style, and i don't think the characters are good?? like what is with everyone's fascination with sans and flowey and i'm just so confused?????

BUT i think the soundtrack is fantastic, and the combat system is definitely unique.

i'm just REALLY. *******. TIRED. OF UNDERTALE.

Legend of Zelda, Undertale, FNAF 1-4, Sonic, Mario. I'd get a lot of hate for not liking some of these, but I'm a Simulation/Strategy guy.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. ~ Samuel Adams

I'd woken up early, and I took a long time getting ready to exist. - Bernardo Soares/Fernando Pessoa
@Shoey I mentioned the FPS part because a lot of people say that in Undertale you can play it without killing any characters and that the game itself "challenges morals". I've been called a violent person because I said that if I were to play Undertale I'd probably do a genocide run, because I tend to do the violent routes in games. I play games because I like them/the story, not because I care about morals. Also I actually enjoy the blend of RPG/FPS games, some of my favorite games are RPGs and involve shooting/violence, but they allow the player to make storyline-defining choices. There are plenty of games like that where I find myself role-playing a character/type of person. edit: also basically what @hollyshark wrote. i just don't like undertale (and the fandom sucks imo)
that said, the plot is boring, i hate the pixel style, and i don't think the characters are good?? like what is with everyone's fascination with sans and flowey and i'm just so confused?????
