There's a lot of negativity on the internet regarding how we're going to prevent further extinction and rising sea levels.
But remember that those articles you read are far removed from your personal life. Don't worry about what's happening on the other side of the planet, worry about what's happening in your community. "In the end, the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself" is a lyric in the song "Can't Go Back Now" by The Weepies.
So, what are you doing to help the environment around your home and work? Are you taking short showers and/or very few baths? Are you recycling as often as you can? Do you walk or bike to places nearby instead of using your car? Do you have an electric/hybrid car?
Every little bit helps! What I've done is... I recently sent a letter to my state governor, I run a hatchery on this site that has pairs themed almost exclusively off real-world species, I volunteer to help in habitat restoration, and I'm working on shortening the length of my showers. Share what you're doing! Share positivity! One of my new favourite quotes is "Don't believe in predictions that don't empower you." We only live for a hundred years or so, spend it helping the planet and helping others!

Well, I'm trying to get my Bachelor's in Natural Resources. At least when I'm in that job field, I'll have at least a little bit of a voice concerning the the enviroment. I mean I can't change anything too drastically, but I'll be able to help at least in little ways.
I also recycle as much as I can and walk/bike wherever I can. Sometimes I do have to take the bus if conditions outside prove to be dangerous. I also pick up litter that people throw out on the side on the road. I'm also vegetarian, and hope to go vegan someday because of factory farming~
Like it is a stab to the heart everytime I hear about something getting destroyed because of humans. And how lackadaisical people are about it hurts even more so. I'm glad though at least more people are becoming more aware though.

As for my larger scale, aspiring beekeeper. and one of the unspoken jobs of that is educating the public. Local parks are always asking people in my beekeeping association for educators for events and whatnot, its really cool. Its also great way to raise awareness of the dangers pesticides to the public, because I live in an area with some zika cases and plenty of beekeepers lose their hives to treatments, including one I volunteered with a bit. The state often neglects to warn people when the do the spraying, so the can't even move their hives.
And then I'm not even going into the politics of whether or not beekeeping is good for the environment the short is "its good out of necessity" and the long is far too long....
As for more personal/less consequential, I have not bought clothes first hand stores in YEARS. I do not go to malls. I think this year I intend to by some stockings and stuff from Halloween stores, haven't done that in forever, and every now and then I'll buy something from small scale craft people/artisans. other than that, all the pants, shirts, skirts, and shoes have been from thrift stores, flea markets and antique places. The consumerism of modern trending fashion is just so horrific to me, the amount of waste caused by making cheap clothing that'll be obsolete, falling apart, and thrown out in half a year is repulsive. Making textiles is actually one of the most toxic (to people and the environment) industries. And the thing is? There are far more clothes than people can ever wear in second hand stores. most large scale thrift stores literally have to send clothes out of the country because people burn through fashions too quick. The amount of clothing waste is just so huge, I hate it.
Also only really make my own cosmetics, or at least trying to get their. Lots of cleaners and make ups have trace amounts of various chemicals harmful to the environment, and it can build up in the water because it all goes down the drain. So yeah, face wash, toner, eye liner, deodorant, all DIY for me, and I'm working on other stuff too.
I'm also a garbage picker. A huge amount of furniture I own I've gotten from other people's "bulk trash", and its pretty good stuff. Shelving, chairs, desks, buckets... Its saving me money, preventing me form having to buy furniture first hand (which is creating more junk), and stopping something from ending up in a dump pile.

What a lovely topic! :D
I make sure to turn off all the lights in my dorm before I leave, and use strictly natural light during the day. While I do buy cases of water, I use almost all the bottles twice and make sure to recycle them all. I'm kind of nuts about recycling.
I do walk and bike to as many places as possible, and to get to sports practices we carpool. I plan on getting an electric or hybrid car once I turn 21 or so, but for now I use a small, compact car that gets very good gas mileage.
When I'm at home, we have our own garden, and we fish for our own fish (sustainably, of course; we use rods and reels and make sure to follow all the guidelines. The fish we eat are very common species!)
I am studying to become a vet, and while that's not exactly environmental related, I hope I can help the creatures I meet and donate to endangered species funds and all sorts of stuff like that!
(I do have two weaknesses; long showers and buying physical books. But I don't need to do wash or dishes often at all so I save water that way! :) )

We removed the bath in our house, so the only option is to shower :)
Our government also makes us recycle, and we literally need 2 recycling wheelie bins to cover all of our recycling :D
Our food waste also goes in a special bin, along with garden waste such as plants so that it doesn't contribute to a landfill!

All I do is recycle and cut the plastic can holder things up. I also try to buy local, local food, local dog products, local artists. I have no idea what to do with composting since I just dont... garden? I'm also gone from my house a week at a time and don't want things smelling the place up.
I thought about becoming a beekeeper but everything that's needed and to join a beekeeper association, having a successful over-wintering... sounds tedious. I love bees but I dont think I'm the right person to do it.

My family recycles just about everything that can be recycled! We have one bin/blue bag for refundables (ie. bottles and cans) and another for general recyclables (ie. plastic packaging, plastic bags, milk jugs). We also compost all papers, boxes, and food/yard waste. I grew up with that, but now it's also a government requirement-- I think the city can refuse to take your garbage if your trash bin is full of compostables or recyclables.
Most of the public trash bins in my area, as well as other towns in the province, have been upgraded to have separate sections for organics, recyclables, and garbage. It's super weird going to different provinces or down to the USA and only seeing garbage cans. Like, what do you mean I'm supposed to just put this glass bottle in the trash? D: It's perfectly recyclable!
Aside from that, I also make sure to leave lights off if I'm not using them (saves on the power bill, too), and I cut up those can holder things before recycling them. Since the tap water for my house is fine, we just drink that instead of buying bottled water, and I'll take a reusable bottle with me if I'm going out for a while.
Oh, and no littering!

I volunteer weekly at my animal shelter, volunteer at the meal/food shelter, at my church, and at a program that raises money to pay for medical costs for people with cancer.

-No killing bees, no killing spiders. We also attempt to plant honeybee friendly flowers among our vegetables.
-recycling
-We limit our heater/AC unless the weather's at it's worst too, but more out of saving money than giving back. Still, it counts.
-No pesticides are used in our gardening. To keep away unwanted creatures (and in my backyard there's everything from bugs to moles to rabbits because our town is like half wood), we make attempts at other methods like Marigolds.
I defeated Lavos so we can have a nice future.
