So um. I'm not a person who looks for communities that easily because I'm kind of a nervous wreck but that's not the point. I think I don't see any threads around here on them. I'm interested in anyone and anything out there that likes... MECHAS!! ROBOTS!! MECHANICAL THINGS!! Gundams? Transformers? Macross? Real Robots? i don't know if this was what you meant (dunno if you were talking about just anime), but i actually enjoy IRL robotics! i build robots in my spare time, and apart from competing in various competitions, on the side i'm actually working on a functioning R2D2 robot that i can control using my phone. :>

@Nonaginta she looks beautiful! Yes that does count! She looks so elegant!

@Wanshu of course! Nothing is a bigger wonder than seeing your own robots come to life! Best of luck in your R2D2!

Oh geez, I don't even know where to start. So many of my favorite things involve giant robots, from various anime to Super Sentai to Mechagodzilla and so on. One of my favorite mecha is a little obscure to many people, it is the mecha of the Japanese live-action Spider-Man (yes, THAT Spider-Man) from the 70's, Leopardon. Both Leopardon and that version of Spidey made an appearance a couple years ago in the big "Spider-Verse" crossover event featuring nearly every alternate incarnation of Spider-Man, and I was beyond thrilled. Leopardon is also basically the granddaddy of Super Sentai mecha. Following Spider-Man, Toei was planning to make another Marvel series based on Captain America, and while that didn't exactly pan out, it led to the creation of Battle Fever J (which still included a nod to Marvel as a co-producer or something). Without that, there may not have been Super Sentai (or Power Rangers for that matter) as we know it.

GO DEXTER FAMILY GO!

Mecha's forever my jam. Who here plays Super Robot Wars or Front Mission?

@Brenning oh my. I have never heard of this. This is the most obscure I have ever seen!
And I have heard of Leopardon but I didn't know it was the grandaddy of the Super Sentai genre. Curious indeed!

@Chronosplit I've always wanted to play SRW, but I saw some gameplay of it and it was rather tactical. Is it worth it? :thinking emoji here:

@joojoojoojoon Yes. When the games aren't referencing mecha they're going through a character's mecha anime storyline with twists due to overarching plot and other characters. The games also do a good job of showing off lesser known works (though I still wouldn't recommend Zeorymer). People don't permanently die unless the storyline dictates either if you're afraid of that SRPG stipulation. Overall for an SRPG the ones I've experienced are easier.

As for how to play it, well... the GBA original generation games were the only ones officially translated due to some people not wanting to give up copyrights (mostly Harmony Gold becuase they've always been butts about Macross, see Robotech). Playing J's fan translation is also a great choice if you want to play one with actual TV show characters, it's pretty well done in spite of putting Gundam SEED in one of the biggest parts.

@chronosplit ah right, the translation and licencing issues...it put me off a little bit seeing that most of the games are in Japanese. (The shop I live near has SRW V, but it's in all its untranslated glory.)

But thank you so much! Definitely will take a look at the fan translated game!
