TOPIC | Tell me your art horror stories.

My computer crashed when I tried to load up a reference picture because the png was five miles long. I lost two hours of work. I didn't press the "S" in Ctrl+S hard enough so I thought I saved but I actually didn't. I couldn't even take a picture of the sketch with my phone because the reference picture took up all of the space on the canvas and covered the original sketch.
Two hours of work, just gone. I am livid. I wanna cry. I can't tell if I'm angry, sad, or if the part of my brain responsible for emotions has just entirely shut down and has descended into the seventh circle of hell.

Help me feel a tad better by telling me your art horror stories; crashing programs, corrupted files, nightmare commissions, tablet drivers not responding, the inability to draw the other eye, you name it -- I wanna hear it all.
Share your art pain with me.

I went to an art college, my last year, during finals week, the school lost power.
We could all hear screams echo down the hallway as a mass of students lost hours of their finals.

I was once working on an illustration, floating between a bunch of computers and using Google Drive to transfer the files. Somewhere in the process, I must have overwrote the final working file with an earlier version. I lost a lot of work that day. Thankfully I did save a jpg of that image and it was approved, but I can never ever change it.

We could all hear screams echo down the hallway as a mass of students lost hours of their finals.
Had something similar happen to me with a term paper. PC froze, had to reboot it, and I discovered that a good chunk of the paper had gotten corrupted in the process. I sweated buckets for a few days before I was able to recover most of the mess. Also that time a partner and I worked on a project (a Taj Mahal model made of clay) and deposited it at our teacher's desk for her to pick up, only to have it stolen. Not once but twice. Thankfully, the second time she saw it and was able to grade before that mystery jerkbucket stole the second version. And the IRL art trade. I'd completed my half of the trade and handed it over to my friend and was eagerly waiting for the other half. On the day he was supposed to come over and give it to me, his bratty little niece saw the drawing, decided she liked it, and took it from him. And wouldn't give it back because it was "hers" now. I never even got to see it. It was like five years ago and I'm still angry as heck. I don't do IRL art trades now.

...I lost an entire 7 hours of work on an AE file when it unceremoniously crashed on me. I was just about to save too.

Ever since then I tend to save neurotically every 10min or so. I've been too lax about it lately though and just the other day I lost an hour's worth of work to another surprise crash.

Also a pox on Windows 10. I had to perform a number of backflips to get my tablet to work on Photoshop again to draw instead of drag when zoomed in. BTW if anyone is having that problem still I will be your hero baby and tell you how to fix it.
I had this exact same issue and panicked pretty bad because I was in the middle of something with a short deadline. Thankfully a friend did the obvious (googled it) and found a solution. One of my biggest life changers was losing something that at the time was one of the best things I'd ever done. So much detail and pretty stuff and my laptop chose that moment to die. I also lost everything else that was on it. So everything that wasn't online somewhere, gone. Ever since then, when I'm working on something, my left hand's default position is over Ctrl and "S". I slam that crap every time I make any little change. x_x

My worst one, aside from the usual forgot to save and program crashed stories, is when I accidentally overwrote and cleaned up an entire art folder of mine.
Which means I lost almost 2-4 years worth of my earliest art.
I mean technically it shouldn't hurt that much since they were "old art" but I always get this thing where I like looking back at where I came from. :/
So that was pretty bummer. * sigh *

I lost about a week's worth of work because GIMP corrupted my psd. file and the drawing was nearly finished (I was working between to different softwares so I had to use a file type that both programs supported). I wanted to cry.

Luckily I had a separate png. of the uncoloured line art, so I just had to fix some mistakes and colour it again instead of starting from scratch.
