The nostalgia is strong this morning. So is my recently fully activated PROTECC GENE.
Paramount Pictures has removed the "Bay" from "Bayformers", and made something that actually looks really good. See also: Bumblebee, the spinoff which is probably causing more fanfare than the original Micheal Bay Transformers movies.
What we know so far from the trailer and description:
1. 'Bee looks a lot younger than in the Bayformers movies, his alt mode at the start is a VW Beetle.
2. Main Human is female(!!), played by Hailee Steinfeld.
3. John Cena is in it as another main character.
4. Starscream(??) is in it, he has actual color on him!!
5. Something something underwater scene. Lots of jokes about this in the youtube comments, as predicted.
Personal Speculation:
1. As it's said to be an origin story, I don't think Bee is very old--he looks like a "teenager" at most, and that's stretching it, IMHO.
2. Maybe we'll actually get more canon information on the Cybertronian Lifecycle?
Personal Hopes:
1. No romance subplot between the Girl and Bumblebee. Mostly because of how young he looks. Seems unlikely, given that it's Hollywood.
2. Instead of romance, maybe a sibling relationship? Once again, seems unlikely, because Hollywood.

Why Am I Crying In The Club Right Now
As always im late to the party but like...... its.. it looks good. Thats my Son! Starscream isn't ugly this time! It isnt super macho and explosion-y and offensive!
I really really hope they flesh out the war and cybertron and all that and dont just... make the decepticons two dimensional bad guys with no real motives, and the autobots as some shallow saviors who have no moral flaws because thats boring, but like they seem like they know what they're doing with this so my hopes are high.

Yeah, I hope the war is more 3-dimensional too, but the Decepticons are still considered bad guys overall, at least during the time of the movie. It's going to be hard to convince anyone otherwise given how adorable 'Bee is, regardless...

I've never been into Transformers. I grew up with the toys, had a passing affection for Beast Wars, but the heart of the franchise just never clicked with me. (Which, weird, because I am a hopeless mechanical nerd.) Then the Bayformers films firmly stepped on whatever inkling interest I might've had -- the designs were so busy and messy! None of the characters were really likeable! Even Bumblebee, who was the sole source of entertainment for the first movie, got worn thin eventually. :/
And then I saw this trailer.

I'm interested to see how it plays out. I didn't see the last TF movie in theaters, or DVD. It's the only one I haven't seen. Not sure if I'll see Bumblebee yet either but I may. I'm glad they've got another director on board though; Bay's movies are what brought me into the fandom (I'm old enough to remember the original cartoon but I never watched any of the series until the movie came out) but he really overstayed his welcome.
I just want a decent movie with a decent plot and decent characterization and that can at least keep to its own canon, why is this so hard to grasp.

Because that is how I feel. Ideally, yes, I agree they shouldn't do the human/bot romance thing with a young Bee, but if they ARE going to force it on us, at least I can hope it won't be as horrifying as THAT was.
