anyone have video games they absolutely love but have no one to obsess over them with?? i can't guarantee i've played or seen it but i'd love to hear about the games you love, but aren't really known about!!

three games i really love are lisa the painful, OFF, an the last story!! lisa the painful and OFF are both like classic rpgs with sick soundtracks. the last story is kinda this cheesy wii game about a war between humans and monsters, and how the world is dying. but despite being on the wii and kinda cheesy, i loved it and the outfits and weapons and backgrounds were so pretty!! the concept art for the game is gorgeous too! i only got it from picking it up at the gamestop for like $5 and also it was directed by the same guy who created the original final fantasy!!

I know I always talk about Ghost Trick but it is a forgotten DS game that is amazing. It was released late in the DS's lifespan, which is why it didn't get much attention. It's also made by Shu Takumi, who worked on the Ace Attorney trilogy, so the quality is the same as his past works. You won't find many physical copies of it as far as I know, but it's on the App Store, where the first two chapters are free to try, and the rest are available for purchase.

There's also Pokemon Conquest, a forgotten side-game for the DS that has Fire Emblem gameplay with Pokemon up to Gen 5. It's a hard game too, so if you want a challenge, this is the game for you. The only downside I can think of about this game is that the plot and characters are kinda boring, but you don't really get into the plot until the end. This one can be found in the used DS game section of most GameStop stores (or whatever is in your area) but it can be found online too.

Edit: I remembered one. Super Paper Mario (Wii) is the 3rd entry in the Paper Mario series. Most people look past this one because of its untraditional gameplay: it's more of a puzzle platformer than an RPG. It's also on the easier side (the ending is tough, tho) because of Mario's ability to flip to 3D for a few seconds, bypassing most enemies while doing so. This ability is used for most of the puzzles as well. It's an untraditional game, but its story is stellar. Heck, we even got a Bowser + Peach wedding BEFORE Odyssey! The main cast of characters is interesting, and the story is actually kind of dark for a Mario game. Basically a monacled shadow wizard wants to destroy all worlds. Which is waaaaaay more ambitious and destructive than princess capturing. You'll likely find this one in game stores too, and it may be cheaper because it's a Nintendo Select.

Edit again: Tadpole Treble on Steam is a wonderful passion project by the creator of the webcomic Brawl in the Family. It has a beautiful soundtrack, inside jokes, cute characters, songs with lyrics, and tons of post-game collectibles that unlock all kinds of great rewards. Oh, and almost everything's a music pun. It's a cheap purchase and is totally worth the buy.

spiral knights.
an obscure game it is, yet an amazing one. get weapon recipes, alchemize the weapons, and kill every monster in sight.
it takes a while to progress, yes, but it's extremely satisfying to progress. also the music.
the music is amazing. play comlink somber at my funeral.

Radiant Historia is a very good jrpg for the ds. It's got time travel and a great story so what's not to like :0 :0 :0
It got a recent remake for the 3ds (that I haven't played) but despite that it doesn't seem very well known

@HydregionOxide

Ghost Trick is one of my favourite games on the DS!! I must have replayed it like 3 times for how much I love it. Sometimes I re-watch the trailer because it looks incredibly cool, haha.
Same for Pokemon Conquest!! That game has some amazing designs (especially for the Lords!) and soundtrack!

@TheAlchemist

Radiant Historia was amazing! The best RPG on the DS, in my opinion. I didn't play the remake either (although I bought it), but I'm sure it's great too.
too bad it didn't get more love!
Stocke is one of my favourite characters ever

And now, for my nominations for "Obscure Video Games"...

Shadow Hearts! It's a trilogy of RPGs made on the PS2. Its main characteristics were a quirky bunch of main characters, its pretty dark atmosphere (although the second game is filled with jokes and it's really funny), and the fact that it was set in the real world. It's absolutely one of my favourite games ever, but it's not exactly well-known, unfortunately.

Another game that I'm really sad it didn't get more love: Pandora's Tower! It was an action game for the Wii. Amazing plot and gorgeous characters. I usually don't like love stories, but the one in this game is so well-written that I couldn't help but love it deeply. The combat is engaging and in general the game was great. I never managed to finish it, but I always wanted to come back to it someday.

Another nomination!
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. Some kind of adventure game with a sprinkle of horror elements, made on the Wii. Absolutely gorgeous graphics and a deeply emotional story. I still cry at some cutscenes. The gameplay really sucked, but what made the game great was its atmosphere, characters, and the story.

@Hayaros Ooooh I remember Shadow hearts. I never played the first one but I played From the New World. It was pretty neat with that timing mechanic..

Available on Steam in case anyone wants to check it out. Great story and lots of interesting puzzles to solve. Some of the characters can be pretty tricky to unlock, but each one has different skills in battle to make things interesting.

ah fragile dreams was fun for me. one of my favorites on the wii
lisa is a good game but i dont talk about it because of a lot of the elements it incorporates

im not sure these count as obscure, but i really like Drakengard. i know the series has been gaining a lot of steam because of Nier Automata, but a lot of people still dont talk about the drakengard games
Disgaea as a series doesnt have too much from what i see around, but thats okay
my last would probably be Shin Megami Tensei. people really (and i mean- really) love their persona games and for a reason- they get the limelight. most smt games are widely underplayed

the harry potter games on pc.. i see theres a speedrun community but theyre still kinda ignored. chamber of secrets is actually the most nostalgic game to me, even moreso than spore(probably because i play spore a lot more)

Oh boy I forgot The Last Story existed. I'm almost certain that I own it and I remember liking the gameplay and that it came in a really cool box with a super awesome art book.

@Kalante
Nice to meet you, fellow Drakengard fan! I didn't find out about them until after playing the first Nier (which admittedly isn't great but I love it to death and wish it would get remastered). Haven't played Automata yet because I can't really afford it. ^^'

There are so many wii games on here. haha
I really think it was a great console and people underestimated it (and therefore its games) way too much. I remember back when Operation Rainfall happened and I signed the petition. It was really amazing that Nintendo listened and brought over Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower. <3

As for what hasn't been mentioned yet: Muramasa and Odin Sphere!
Muramasa is a really pretty sidescrolling fighting-oriented RPG for the wii and Odin Sphere is the same type of game but on the PS2. They both have multiple parts through the perspectives of other characters, which I've always thought was a neat device. They're both kind of hard games, but the story (especially with Odin Sphere) is worth the effort. I know Odin Sphere got remastered somewhat recently, but every time I've brought it up irl, no one knows what I'm talking about!
