TOPIC | Talk to me about Ark :D
Anyone else here play Ark? I bought the game like a month ago and it has completely taken over my life help. I play modded single player, mostly just collecting dinosaurs and expanding my lil base! It's pretty cosy. :D This is my base so far: And this is my noble steed, Snorkel. Sure, she's just a parasaur, but I love her. After dumping a ton of levels into speed, she's actually a really good, versatile mount! I take her exploring and go on mining trips since she can carry a decent amount. <3 I also have an ichythornis called Noodle that follows me everywhere and a dilo called Dustpaw who's saved my sorry butt more times than I can count. And a little flock of dodos, a paddock of parasaurs and a couple of lystros for eggs. I'm currently working on throwing together some dodo egg kibble and getting myself a pteranodon! (Warning: I will talk about my random creatures and/or my base for hours)

@Charias
Your base is really nice. It can frequently be annoying to build in ARK (well, at least as of 8 months ago) but you did great! Leaving (or planting if you have the right mods) the trees and ferns is a really nice touch.
The hanging plants and fancy lights are a really neat too. There are some very cool mods out there.

I hope Snorkel survives, it sounds like you are looking after her really well though. I've had some bad luck with parasaurs. They are very fast but so fragile. My favorite scout para Dart from my last character died after getting cornered on a cliff face by allos and I couldn't push through them. I built him a little mausoleum and everything.

Fliers in general are great, you are going to love your ptera! (but they are also very fragile!)

Maybe it was the mods I used at the time but my high level vulture Nippy saved me so often, I'd always keep him on my shoulder and when something stunned and attacked me he could usually fight it off while I waited to get up. He completely neutralized all those irritating ambush critters like microraptors and purlovia as a threat.
I also really love troodons, glowy eyed birds frens. A pain to tame though but super deadly for their size once they level some. (And uh... before they are tamed also. Stop killing me please I just want to hug you.)

Anyway, you can probably tell from my post I haven't played for months (at first I was waiting for them to finish the semi-recent upgrade to their older creatures, now I'm waiting for the last DLC.) so hopefully someone will come along who is playing it currently.

I played a little but dropped the game after a while, I guess I was just not patient enough :P
Makes me want to play again!

I had start with a lot of luck somewhere near a river where there wasn't many predators until the troodons were implemented yikes and most importantly, a sarco stuck between a few trees ! It was like, my third dinosaur so that sure gave me a big boost... He killed one of thoose goddamn big sloth that was wandering around the beach and that's where i realized that he was far more op than i thought.

I never got a ptero but i think I had a few small dino (dilo, maybe one of these stealing lil pest and something that basically served as like, a buff for other dino ? I don't remember it's name just that it made a backflip sometimes), my sarco, a para and an ichto who died right before i quit. I was a lil bit salty that something that took me so much time to tame just died by a stingray.

Your base is lovely! I play on console with some friends occasionally, we haven't been very active on our server lately, but Ragnarok is our main map of choice at least until Extinction comes out, maybe. I wish we had some of the mods PC can use (or rather that we had and played on PCs lol) because in order to get anything relatively nice looking for our bases we use primitive plus, but it's often neglected when it comes to updates (the patch that added the new look for the raptors and trikes and others wasn't working for a good few months on Prim+). Our server isn't completely legitimate or vanilla, we used to experiment with commands, building and spawns prior to settling down and making it a playable server, but we have some nice bases and have adjusted it for more proper gameplay now, aside from taming and gathering rates.
I really love the game immensely but it's definitely meant to play with others after a while, I haven't been able to find much to do in it lately. But I love all my wyvern children and my raptors and allos and rexes and my beautiful Griffin Arsene, she's pure white (she was pale colored but I painted her sheer white and she looks so great). I also adore decorating with Prim+ it makes the spaces feel used and lived in.

Thank you! <3 Yeah, the vanilla building mechanics are really awkward! I have quiiite a few building mods on, including a couple that added some nice cosmetic items like the trees, lampposts, hanging baskets, etc. (eco's mods and Additional Lighting are both really good). Makes building things a lot more fun and satisfying. :D

Gotta be honest, I managed to get Snorkel killed a couple of times earlier in my save but I felt so bad I just kept reloading my game whenever something happened to her. I get so fricking attached to my pets, haha. :') I'm mostly hanging around in the south of the map atm though so there's nothing more threatening than raptors and the occasional carno. Plus one of the mods I have on (called Zoology) makes it so predators don't hunt unless they're hungry, which makes things a lot easier! I don't think I'd risk taking her out of the "newbie zone" though...

@Fluoroantimonic

Ooh, a sarco? Niiiiice. Haven't managed to tame one of those for myself yet but they sound like awesome mounts. :0 I really want one for ocean exploring, the best I have for that right now is a tortoise thing and they're so slooow. And yeah, those stingray things (I think they're called mantas? Which is kinda weird) are NASTY. Just. Avoid. I've seen those things kill megalodons... soon as you get surrounded you're pretty much dead. D:

@Guardianess

Thank you!! :D Ark mods are awesome, it's such a shame you can't get them on console. :/ Good thing is I'm pretty sure one of the more popular structure mods (Structures Plus) is getting added into the base game at some point? And it makes it A LOT easier to build things. And less frustrating. It fixes a lot of the weird snapping issues, makes it so you can tell which way walls are facing, and just general QOL changes that Ark's vanilla building lacks. Buuuut I'm not sure when that's planned to be added to the game.

I've never tried Primitive+ before but it does look really neat. I'll probably give it a shot when I get tired of my current save. I can see how it'd get boring playing single player after a while... I'm sure I'll get tired of the grind at some point, but right now I'm waaay too shy and awkward to try out a multiplayer server (and nobody I know irl has it on PC, which sucks). :P

I could probably rant for hours about Ark, it's such a fun game!
I personally play on my brother's console, and I'm a huge taming freak. To the point where I don't actually have fun playing legitimately cause it takes so long to tame things. I would love to get some mods like the aesthetic ones you have though, they look amazing. I really wish you the best of luck playing because it's so much fun when you get your first big dino or flier. Plus, it's legitimately such a gorgeous game.
I'm a wiki nerd so I know most of the ins and outs of every dino in the console game from reading the wikis for hours.
It's been awhile since I've played but I may pick it up again since school has started and I'm home for half the day.
One of my favorite things to do is tame a dire wolf and a few hyenadons, breed the hyenadons until I have a big pack of them, then ride the direwolf with my pack of puppies into battle.
That, or go on the search for the unicorn. :)

Oh when I first got this game I would play for absolute hours. I was mesmerized by it. As time went by though, I started falling more and more out of it, mainly cause of depressing things that would happen on servers me and a few friends would play on (server closes, favourite dinosaurs die, attacking dinos not listening when you call them over so they don’t end up like the previous statement WHY IS THIS NOT A FEATURE). The most recent occurence and probably my last straw was the ascending process I did to unlock my other maps (that were previously played on scott-free anyway—a stupid thing that shouldn’t exist)... it’s supposed to let you play through and go past level 100 on that character, but instead it bugged out and deleted in entirely, making me recreate one from scratch, and leaving all my dinos and structures out there with no existing owner. This has been a bug since LAST year, and made me lose all of my faith in WildCard. So so many other players had this issue as well. There’s a supposed “workaround” on their website (that gets maybe 1/10th of the traffic the actual game does, come on now), but I unno. Too late now haha

Sorry if I’m coming off like a Negative Nancy, but the main purpose of this post was to warn you about ascending, unless you do their little “workaround so we dont have to actually fix it” or whatever. I hope you have a blast playing it, cause I sure did for most of my time ^^ Good luck on tames and whatnot!
