TOPIC | freshman year college jitters

So between graduation and going to college, my stress levels are exponentially increasing. I have all the pre-orientation campus stuff in June, and another extra pre pre-orientation thing in August. So I guess my question is: Is freshman year of college really that scary? Everyone else is nervous too right?

Feel free to tell me your experiences to alleviate my stress ^^;

Yes, remember that all the other new students are probably nervous too. To make friends, try joining a club or activity that interests you.

Or sometimes you just have to introduce yourself to that snarky person sitting behind you in Chemistry class. That's how I found my best friend in college.

For me, the scariest part of freshman year was meeting my roommates. That was only because I'd never met them and would be stuck living with them for the next 9 months. Turns out we all got along just fine, despite being very different people.

Some classes were hard and it wasn't always easy to motivate myself to study, but you get used to it.

Good luck!

Freshman year can seem really scary, but honestly, like Risforrose said, everyone else there is also nervous to be there. It's gonna seem a lot different than your typical High School or whatever the equivalent is where ever you are, but I'm sure you'll do great.

Just remember to remind yourself to study and keep a good planner and you should do fine!

Going into my freshman year, I was completely convinced I would never make any friends. I'm a senior now, and I'm living in a house with seven of the kindest people I've ever met. My suggestion would be to go to literally every freshman event your college gives you; as many as you can stomach. You're at a massive advantage - you're right, everyone IS nervous, which means that everyone is just as desperate to make friends too. Go to as many freshman socials as you can, and you're absolutely bound to meet people.

Hey, I'm starting my freshman year very soon as well! Luckily my brother, mom, and boyfriend have all gone to the same college I'm going to so I have some guidance, but I'm still nervous. The big thing I'm worried about though is getting lost lol, it's a big campus.

good morning! i'm starting my freshman year in fall, as well! my orientation is in august - and i'm moving completely out of state!

someone in here mentioned how you're bound to meet people, and they're absolutely right. i've already met so many wonderful people just on social media attending the same college as i. your mind will convince you that you will be alone (mine did), but trust me, everyone is definitely as nervous as you are and you're destined to make a friend!

I remember being rather nervous for the first few weeks, but after that I got into a routine and it wasn't bad at all. Really, just as long as you figure out when/where to get food, where the laundry room is, and where/when your classes are, you'll be fine.

Everything else, like grades and friends, will happen as they happen and aren't worth getting too stressed out over. Just join a few clubs, manage your time well and your first year will go by faster than you realize.
Everything else, like grades and friends, will happen as they happen and aren't worth getting too stressed out over.
This is advice I wish I'd had, as a young little roadworthy. But it's true -- life happens. You do your best and work with what you've got. And if something doesn't go "right," that's fine. You can only move forward.

Good luck! I'm starting my second year next semester and I'm pretty sure the experience would probably be the same. I wouldn't say it was scary. Instead, I was most nervous meeting my roommate like others have shared but we got along great the entire year!

I saw the first day of classes a bit worrisome since I wouldn't really know where to go but it's always completely fine to ask others around you to confirm you're in the right place :^) especially since there are a lot of other freshmen being on the same boat as you.

if you're going to community college it's literally just like high school so don't sweat it. profs will threaten to give you pop quizzes for talking or threaten to take your phone but you're allowed to have food and drinks

orientation was the worst because at that point i'd never seen any parts of the campus i would actually use before (aside from the cafeteria). and since i lived on campus and had no friends also living there all my roommates were strangers which was also nightmarish haha, but we got along uh. moderately well.

uni however is freaking terrifying on all fronts because you're expected to actually be an adult from day one and get over your social anxieties. and like my classes have personally not been that bad but at the same time your workload will exponentially increase and that's what makes it bad
