[ POKEMON ] Competitive Battle Chat | General Discussion

There has to be some people out here who breed and battle pokemon competitively, and I'm definitely wanting to chat with them about team comp and gimmick teams. They're just... so fun.

I breed in game but also make mock teams on Pokemon Showdown. I wanna make this thread for general discussion and advice, but also because I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I'm trying to make a mono ghost team, just for kicks and giggles considering it's my favorite type, and currently am running:

Mimikyu
Chandelure
Jellicent
Golurk(?)
Cofagrigus(?)

I'm debating replacing one with a spiritomb just because I've never used one, and I should probably run Honedge considering I'm going to need a sweep card on the physical side (which I was tempted to try with mimikyu), but at the moment my predicament is figuring out the mega. Do I go Destiny Bond/Will-o/Thunderwave Mega Banette with prankster, or do I go the route of magic bounce sableye?

First people on FR I see who dabble in competitive! I also dabble in it.

I've been making teams for the VGC formats in-game starting with XY's second VGC ruleset. I like doing in-game stuff like Battle Maison/Tree and the Battle Spot Championship Battle (VGC rules).

Last time I played Pokemon, my somewhat guilty pleasure was playing Battle Spot doubles with special Pokemon allowed. My latest team follows the current VGC rules, so it has only 2 ubers. It's super-fun when you beat people who use more ubers and/or mythicals than you. My team is a Psychic nuke team with Life Orb Mewtwo. He's my favorite ever and I wanted to use him. Really, I should be using a Necrozma instead.

I use Showdown to learn and steal teams. haha But I'm always too chicken to battle on there. I keep up with the VGC scene a little bit on Twitter.

Your team reminds me of the Spooky Cup thing they did for last Halloween on the Battle Spot. I made a team for that and it was a blast! It was my first time to use Mimikyu. Mine was a Swords Dance one, though.

At least I actually understand the game mechanics.

i used to be into competitive battling but not much anymore. i'm sure the release of sw/sh will get me back into it, though!!!
