TOPIC | That new lion King movie...

[]It looks... Not that great, like they can't have expressionsand if you look the new and old trailer, the old one just looks more interesting, like in the new one, there was a clip of hakuna matata and they are just walking around sort of weirdly and singing with no expressions. The old one is just more interesting to look at, y'know? I would rent it on Redbox and half watch it, half be doing something else. Anyone else think it's not that good?

I didn’t see it yet but my family was planning to!
From friends’ opinions it’s bad, but since I didn’t see it yet I can’t really confirm

I want to see it once just to see what it's like. Its inevitable financial success might lead to more serious/less cartoony animal-centric films, though, which I would be all for.

I’ve watched it, and honestly I have to say, simba’s voice actor sounds a little....off.

Also, what I personally thought about it.

It is basically an animal documentary except the animals can talk. Like, seriously, it looks the exact same, except instead of three hyenas, there are a whole lot more?! I think they could have done a better job, and you can’t even detect any emotion on their face.

In the words of the Nostalgia Critic:

"Um, what's live-action about it?"
"The ground."

I really liked it... I'm planning to go see it again. It was actually better than I was expecting. I really like how realistic it looks, kinda like a documentary which makes me feel that it is better than the original. I was really happy to see that the hyenas were more accurate, hyenas naturally live in groups lead by the dominant female.

I didn't even notice the lack of expressions. I don't remember feeling like I couldn't read their expression at all. But to be fair I suck at reading people's expressions in real life so I just might overall ignore them by default. Regardless I feel like I had a good read on their emotions through what they said and did so if there was a lack of expression I don't think it would really take away much.

I also found Zazu, Timon and Pumba to be even more funny in this than the original as well!

Personally, I thought it was alright. Itll never be the same as the original, because that kind of cartoonism allows all sorts of artistic freedom to make it entertaining. But I think, for a photo realistic film, they did OK making it interesting. Some animations were a bit... meh (such as the giraffes, elephants, Mufasa, etc), while other animations were incredible (Nala, the fight between Scar and Simba at the end, some other side characters, etc). The story was basically the same, so it's hard to attribute the new film with it's own definition. Without that, it's just alright compared to the old one.

Woolworths keeps playing music from the movie and it’s so eugh

I don’t like Beyonce anyway and that could be why I didn’t like the song but, yeah, I’m not into the movie.
I’m probably not gonna go see it.
Like Ms Marvel. When you know it’s gonna be bad, it’s gonna be bad. It’s already cursed with badness.

Also heard Seth Rogen was Pumba and I —??

Who was the casting director?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Seth Rogen is kinda funny but can he sing? No. Does his laugh annoying ts out of me? It sure does.

I can’t think of anyone more generic than Beyonce for a musical movie. It’s just expected and lame.

I have no interest in it.

I've seen a few people compare it to The Jungle Book 2016, which I personally thought was even more of a slogfest than the cartoon, so I can only imagine how I'll feel about this one.

Either way, I can't empathize with a cardboard lion, no matter how pretty or well-voiced it is. The Lion King is still a very human story at the end of the day. Removing or toning down the art, the human expressions, the symbolism, etc. for 'realism' is firmly missing the point.
