TOPIC | Calling All Book Nerds
Hey, nerd. Yeah, you. Like fantasy? If not, why are you on a dragon pixel browser game? Out of things to read, or getting dangerously close to it? Itching for a new, good book series? How about one that has four books and counting published?

Well, I'm kind of tired of being one of the only people I know who likes this one series called the Protectors of Celestria. No, it has nothing to do with My Little Pony. It's a creative story with a multi-layered plot line, well-developed characters, and a lot of organic plot twists (so, no cringey plot-forcing.)

The first book is subtitled "Discovery," the second is "Cursed," the third is "Past Imperfect" and the newest one is "Birthright." You can get them on Amazon for about 20 USD a pop.

So, there's my recommendation. Take it for what you will. Still, I hope this author gets more support and the series gets the recognition it deserves. It's just so good! But so unknown... Let's change that last bit. ;)

Eyy, @Polymorphus have you started reading it yet? I keep looking forward to reading your thoughts on it!

What kind of fantasy we talking?

Elves and dwarves? Political? Low-key magic based? Urban? YA? Alternative history?

I like fantasy, but ... not all of it. I need a little more info before 20usd doesn't sound outrageous.

@Greyjoy

High fantasy, witches, dragons, kings, unicorns, etc.

And who says you have to pay for it yourself? You can try talking to your local librarian and see if they'd be willing to buy a library copy for you to check out. :) Then you can invest if you really enjoy it. Thick books, but by the time you get to the end, it feels short. Well worth the 20USD if you as me. Each time a new installation in the series comes out, it feels like reuniting with old friends. :)

For fantasy, you cannot go wrong with Mercedes Lackey's line of books.

@Cryoluxa

I don't use libraries, haha. For one, my local library sucks. For two, it's always shut when I'm not working, and for three... taking books back to libraries is like taking puppies and kittens back to shelters when you've had your fill of them ;)

Really though, my library is unlikely to import for one person's interest. Books here aren't as much as £20, not even hardbacks, so $20 sounds mad for a book. Even a thick one. And my username's from a fantasy book series known for its ... thickness, so I'm no stranger to, uh, literary .... girth. Or something.

That sounds like an interesting read! I’ll add it to my list.

@Loniface
Heck, yeah! Some of the first fantasy books I ever read were by her! I don’t really like some of her newer books but the older ones are the best in my opinion.

@Greyjoy
You can probably get them secondhand? There’s a lot of secondhand bookstores online and (I’m not sure if you have one near you but) even Barnes and Nobles has a section on the website where you can find used books (that are usually a heck of a lot cheaper).

Barnes and Noble aren't a thing here, nope! I love second hand books, but trying to find specifics is a tough one.

They do seem to have 'em on Amazon for the kindle for £7.50 though, so I might give them a shot. c:

@Greyjoy

Ah, sorry to hear that you have such a bad library experience, but I'm glad you found the books at an affordable price! If you give them a read, I hope you enjoy them! I know I do!

@Mapleleafshade

When you get to them, I'm sure you'll enjoy them! Such fantastic books... I'm really looking forward to finally being able to discuss them with people! :D No pressure to partake in that, though. I'm just a bit giddy. :3
