TOPIC | Value of my xyy dragon?
I've heard that dragons with xyy colors are more valuable, and I was wondering if someone who is familiar with the pricing on FR could approximate how much my dragon would sell for, and/or if she has desirable colors? [img]http://flightrising.com/dgen/preview/dragon?age=1&body=141&bodygene=0&breed=1&element=10&gender=1&tert=13&tertgene=0&winggene=0&wings=13&auth=619d7c4cbd75ce869a5adba05179b82285708f3b&dummyext=prev.png[img] ---------- Grace's genes are as follows: Primary - Thicket basic Secondary - Mulberry basic Tertiary - Mulberry basic Also, it seems like she keeps having babies with really rare color combos, so I dunno if that's just good luck or if that means Grace's genes are really good. Edit: Here's one of her offspring for example I searched up Sweetmist's color combo and apparently she is the only dragon currently on FR with her set of colors, and her brother, Spiritforged is almost as rare, being 1 of the only 2 dragons with his colors. @intuitive fodder price (lowest adult price on AH). XYYs (etc.) are rarely worth more than any other dragon (with the exception being G1s) and need to have good, nice looking genes to be worth anything exceptional.

Also, neither of her offspring are "rare". Having the only color combo on site doesn't really mean anything considering anybody can breed those colors at any time.

"Rare" color combos are also usually rare for a reason- that reason being that they are (most of the time) undesirable.

@Intuitive The short answer; probably not much. Pricing isn't as simple as "XYY dragons are more valuable," it depends on a variety of factors. Just to name a few, rarity, aesthetic appeal, offspring list, and your own patience will affect a dragon's price and sale success. Color is indeed a chief factor. A dragon's colors cannot be changed unless you use a Tri-color Scatterscroll, which totally randomizes all three colors. I agree she's quite cute, but in the event of a sale, the problem is that she's competing with the tens of thousands of other dragons on the Auction House - and there's only so much lair space. I recommend reading Exalting and You: A PSA for a good explanation on why exalting - AKA, permanently removing a dragon from the game - is important for the market. With that in mind, how would she do in the market? The first setback is that she's been bred. While some players don't mind a long offspring list, an offspring list generally reduces a dragon's value. There are a variety of perspectives on it, but I personally think it simply looks cleaner with the "Offspring: None" as opposed to a long list. If you don't mind it and plan to continue to breed her in the future, that's fine! However, if you want to sell her above fodder price (explained in the PSA linked above) she's already got a disadvantage. Secondly, all 3 of her genes are "Basic." You can change a dragon's patterns with various gene scrolls, available in the Specialty section of the Treasure Marketplace, Gem Marketplace, and the Auction House. If you plan to keep her, it would be an aesthetic change, but she can also pass down those genes to her future children! Here's what she would look like with the Savannah, Bee, and Ghost genes! Savannah and Ghost are found at random in the Treasure Marketplace, while Bee is always available in the Gem Marketplace! [columns][nextcol][item=Primary Gene: Savannah] [item=Secondary Gene: Bee] [item=Tertiary Gene: Ghost][/columns] As for her kids, offspring color is randomized depending on the parents' colors. If you'll look at the colors in the Scrying Workshop, they're all in a specific order. If you bred her with a dragon that was, say, all Obsidian, the resulting hatchling's Primary color could be anywhere between Thicket and Obsidian, and their Secondary and Tertiary colors could be anywhere between Mulberry and Obsidian. Genes have nothing to do with color; it's pure luck based on whichever dragon(s) you've bred her with. While color is random, genes have distinct rarities, as do dragon breeds! Keep that in mind when pairing dragons for the future. The Scrying Workshop allows you to preview possible offspring between any two dragons, and it can also tell you if the pair is compatible. "One-of-a-kind colors" are something of a niche interest. If you're interested in how much the kids might sell for, I recommend posting an interest/price check all their own in Dragon Share, and see who's interested. Beyond that, however, you would be hard-pressed to find a buyer willing to buy her instead of another dragon for the same price. That's the crux of the issue; they're all perfectly pretty dragons, but they're competing with thousands of other dragons on the market for precious, expensive lair space - most of them with more expensive genes, more popular breeds, and prettier color combinations. I hope this was helpful and informative! I think she's lovely, and I hope you enjoy her.

@NightmareJudge
Thanks for explaining how the colors work! I had assumed that they were completley randomized, with a higher chance of getting the parents colors or something like that.

Something the others didn't mention was that she's a gen2, which means both her parents are gen1s.

Gen1s are dragons hatched fron unhatched eggs (you can get them as a drop by scavenging or using the coliseum, they are not the ones you get from breeding your dragons). Gen1s will always have "none" listed as their parents in their lineage. The first two dragons you received (your progens) are gen1.

While gen2s generally aren't worth any more than any other dragon, there is a small market for them. There's even a thread for selling them.

I collect gen2s myself and she does have some lovely colors. So if you are selling her, let me know!
