TOPIC | Why can't you exalt given dragons?
I'm new to the forum, for the first time ever I was checking out the dragon sale tab and everyone there says if you get a dragon from them you aren't allowed to exalt it. But why?

These dragons don't belong to you anymore and the person can do whatever they want with their new dragon. Even if they sell the dragon in the action house if they don't want it anymore, there's no guarantee that the next person to own them won't exalt either?

It seems silly and selfish. Either keep your dragons for yourself or sell/give them away without rules attached. It doesn't belong to you anymore and your rules are useless now that the dragon belongs to someone else.

Can someone explain to me why people say this?

@Screameh You're right, you're free to do whatever you want with a dragon once it's on your account.
When you're buying a dragon the seller can ask you not to exalt but can't force you to not exalt it.
It's ok to ask for a free dragon, keep it for a bit and then change your mind. It's not ok to ask for a dragon just to immediately exalt it.

I didn't know this would count as harassment. I've seen posts created in the same manner saying if you're caught exalting a dragon the person will block you.

If I did get a free dragon I would intend to keep it, but there is always the chance of wanting something new. Maybe then it would be okay to do another giveaway, but without the strings attached.

This is very valuable information. Thank you for letting me know. I think I'd just rather not interact with people who say exalting is banned rather than get into a fight with someone over it.

The personal code I -- and I would guess most people on the site -- go by is that if I buy a dragon, whether on the Forums or the AH, it's mine to do whatever I want with. If I'm asking for it for free, then I should have the intent to keep it when I'm asking for it, even if I change my mind later.

Though I will say I generally avoid buying from a forum post that says "do not exalt the dragons you buy from me," because there are a lot of dragons out there and unless it's absolutely my dream dragon, there are plenty of dragons that come with no worries that someone is going to get upset with me if I exalt down the line.

You answered your own question very well, and your way of thinking is the correct one. Just like you can't dictate what the seller will do with what you pay them, they cannot dictate what you do, or do not do, with the dragons you buy

It's meant to be a polite thing that if you get a dragon for free you're planning on keeping it, but some people take that to the extreme of insisting that any dragon you get from them is not allowed to be exalted, ever.

Personally, I've been on this site for years and there's plenty of dragons that I loved for a while and then got tired of and ended up exalting. Dragons in general are cheap enough that I just stay away from anyone who says something like that and just buy them straight from the auction house. They can still request that you don't exalt them, but if you've paid for them from the auction house you're free to do whatever you want since.

You can do whatever you want with a dragon once it enter your lair, it's unrealistic to be expected to keep a dragon forever with limited lair space and changes in personal taste and all that.

however it's considered rude to immediately exalt a dragon you got for free.

There have been issues in the past with people trawling free dragon giveaway threads for the sake of getting free exalt fodder, so this could partially be where this sentiment stems from.

And when it comes to dragons you've paid for, it's probably people who think they're still entitled to some sort of partial ownership of a dragon because they own the parents and haven't learned that they lose all rights to the offspring once it leaves their lair yet.
