This thread will be retired due to space limitations, the new thread can be found [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=mb&board=help&id=1338366&page=1]here[/url]. It should be stickied shortly. There are some questions that seem to come up often so I thought I would try to collect the answers in one place. *Note: It is a very good idea to [b]visit the encyclopedia[/b] which you can find on the side bar under the Library heading (or by clicking [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=wiki]here[/url]). It has detailed information on dragon breeds, customization (including skins and genes), and what you can do on the site. This includes more details on a lot of the answers that are condensed on this page and, since it's provided by official sources, it's more likely to be accurate and stay up to date.* **Disclaimer:[u][b] I am not a mod or admin[/u][/b]. I'm happy to try to help you out but I am not a part of Flight Rising's staff. [u]Inquiries about accounts and other potentially sensitive information should be directed toward FR staff only[/u].** [b]Dragons[/b] [i]When do dragons grow up? [/i] Dragons become adults at the age of 5, however if you can’t wait you may use a [item=scroll of maturity] and they will become adults. Hatchlings grow up at site rollover (midnight) on their 5th day. In other words, the first midnight after their age displays as 5 they should grow up. Adult dragons can fight in the coliseum, wear apparel, and represent you as an avatar. The ability to breed is determined by the cool down period, not adulthood (more information can be found under "Breeding, Colours, and Cooldown"). [b]*Note*[/b] Dragon age is rounded down. This means that a dragon that is 5 days and 20 hours old will have their age listed as 5 days old. If they are older than 6 days and appear as a hatchling please try the following: [LIST=1] [*]In the lair view, click the red refresh arrow next to the dragon's name [*]Apply a skin or piece of apparel to the dragon [*]Pair the dragon with a familiar, then have the dragon bond with it [*]Have someone else view the dragon [/LIST] If these steps don't help, either a [item=scroll of eternal youth] was used on them (there should be a related icon) OR there is a bug. [i]Can my dragon die?[/i] No, your dragon will not die from ageing, sickness or starvation. The only way a dragon will leave your care is if you sell, trade, or exalt them. [i]Why is my dragon so small? Do dragons grow?[/i] Dragons (including progenitors) grow until they are 15-35 days old. Their final size is somewhere within the range for their breed but the final size is random. *Note: There is currently a bug with some breeds where the parent's size will reset upon breeding, they will grow up again by the time their cool down period is over.* [i]What is a progenitor?[/i] The two dragons you receive when you start your clan are your progenitors. You cannot trade or sell these dragons. You can use a [item=Tri-Color Scatterscroll] to change their (or any other dragons') colour, be careful though the colours are random. You can exalt these dragons for no treasure/dominance if you really want to get rid of them, but you should consider breeding them first. [i]How do I get more dragons?[/i] The easiest way is to breed your progenitors, they will have a nest of 1-5 eggs which will hatch after 5 incubations, or if you want to see them now you can use a [item=boon of fertility] and they will hatch right away. See the encyclopedia's [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=wiki&article=8]breeding page[/url] for more information. You can also buy dragons from the auction house, or trade with other players. If you don’t have the resources to buy or trade, you might be able to find unhatched eggs from the coliseum, Pinkerton’s pile, or from scavenging. [i]What are the nest sizes? I keep getting one egg nests, bug or bad luck?[/i] Here are the probabilities for the nest sizes: [quote name="Akiri" date="2013-6-27 04:06:03"]When you interbreed 2 dragons of different species, this table is used: A chance at a 5th egg is added because you rolled the dice with species outcome. [indent][LIST] [*]5 eggs (5%) [*]4 eggs (10%) [*]3 eggs (45%) [*]2 eggs (30%) [*]1 egg (10%) [/LIST][/indent] If you breed two dragons of the same species, this table is used: [indent][LIST] [*]4 eggs (12%) [*]3 eggs (40%) [*]2 eggs (38%) [*]1 egg (10%) [/LIST][/indent][/quote] Note that it is possible to get several nests of 1 egg in a row, similar to the possibility of flipping a coin and getting heads 10 times in a row. This is not a bug, this is the random number generator doing it's job. The odds work out when examining nest sizes of all users (but not necessarily an individual user's nests), and is closely monitored by the admin. [i]How do I get different types of dragons?[/i] You can get different dragon types from other users, through trades or sales in the auction house or you can purchase breed change scrolls in the marketplace under the specialty tab. Breed changes may be available from users also. Some dragon types will be much rarer than others, for example Imperial dragons were for Kickstarter backers and the scrolls will get rarer as time goes on, although users will be able to breed them indefinitely. [i]Trading dragons[/i] You can go to the crossroads to trade a dragon for a dragon, gems or treasure. You cannot use the crossroads to trade a dragon for items at this time. However, you can set up a trade for one treasure and then send the item through the private message system. [b]Note[/b]: The crossroad does not support cross currency payment. Payments that are mixed (for example gems and treasure) will require a trade for the dragon with one of the currencies and a note to the owner with the rest of the payment, remember that this is an unsupported transaction. [i]Unhatched/Orphaned/Parentless Eggs [/i] These eggs can be found in the coliseum (in any area), Pinkerton's pile, or through scavenging they take up no nest space and can be hatched whenever you like. The element of the egg is determined by the enemy that dropped it (if you get it from the coliseum) or the area that you scavenged it from. The gender and colours of the dragon will be random and the breed will be one of the 4 starting types. These are the only eggs that may be traded or sold to other users. If someone is offering an egg for trade from the nest, they will not be able to send it to you until the baby hatches. [b]Feeding and Energy[/b] [i]What is the well fed bonus?[/i] When you keep your clan’s energy above 80% for three days in a row you receive some daily benefits: +5 gathering turns, +1 gem, +250 treasure, +15% experience from the coliseum. To get the benefit you must keep the clan’s energy above 80% for 3 whole days. If the energy drops to 79% or lower you will need to start again, so watch your energy levels. [i]When does energy decrease?[/i] Energy decreases when you flee in the coliseum (-2 energy for each participating dragon) or have your team knocked out (-5 energy for each participating dragon). It also decreases throughout the day, as of November 12, 2013 every dragon in your clan will lose 1 energy point every 8 hours (as stated by Xhaztol in a news post). [i]What food does my dragon eat?[/i] You can see a list of the types of food that each breed will eat if you hover over their picture in the clan menu or you can check out the encyclopedia entry for the breed. Picky dragon types will eat first, for example a fae dragon (insects only) will eat before the guardian will (meat, fish, insects, plants). If there are several foods that the dragon can eat it will prefer to eat the first thing in the list. For example, if you had only plants to eat, your guardian would eat them, but if you have fish and plants the guardian would consume the fish first. [i]How many food points do I need?[/i] 1 food point will restore 1 energy for 1 dragon, assuming it is a food type that dragon will consume. To determine what food types your dragon will eat, please see the previous paragraph. Remember that some dragons such as those on your coliseum team, those coming from another player (through auction house or crossroads), or those that haven't been fed for a bit (due to lack of appropriate food points); may require more energy than your other dragons. [i]What happens when my dragon loses energy?[/i] When your dragon loses energy, very little changes until they reach 20% or lower. At this point they do not have the energy to breed (they will not show up in the drop down list) or fight in the coliseum (they will disappear from your party and display with a red overly in the party select menu). This can be corrected by feeding them so that they have enough energy again. Your dragon will [b]not[/b] die or become sick due to having low energy [i]What happens when clan energy reaches 0?[/i] There are no penalties associated with a clan energy of 0. However, dragons that have little to no energy are unable to fight or breed. [i]I have food but can't feed my dragons. How do I restock food points?[/i] The food you see in your hoard are still items. These items can be traded and sold to people, but you can't feed them to your dragon that way. You have to convert them to food points by selecting them in your hoard and using the convert button. Each item will give you a certain number of food points (which you can see when you mouse over the item) and these points will show up on the top bar while you are in your lair area. [b]Exalting and Dominance[/b] [i]Exalting[/i] Dragons from your clan can be exalted to serve your deity, they will serve your god regardless of which flight they originally came from. They will leave a small amount of treasure and occasionally gems depending on their coliseum level, and contribute to the dominance of your flight. Once they’ve gone they won’t come back, so be very careful who you send to do their patriotic duty. Progenitors can now be exalted but they will [b]not contribute to dominance or give you any reward.[/b] [i]What are the rewards for exalting?[/i] [b]Progenitors do not give any rewards or contribute to dominance when they are exalted.[/b] For all other dragons the rewards are as follows: [LIST] [*]A boost to your Flight's dominance (See the next topic for more information). [*]2000-3000 treasure for a level one dragon and (an estimated) 1500 per additional level. [*]Rarely you will also get a small number of gems. [indent]Currently I have no estimation for the drop chance or amount of gems.[/indent] [*]Space in your lair. [/LIST] [i]What is dominance? How is it determined?[/i] Dominance is a site-wide competition between flights (and the Beast Clans). It determines which of the gods have the most support and is calculated every week. It is determined by the number of dragons exalted by the Flight during the week. Ranking is determined by a ratio of dragons exalted per active account. This means that a Flight with fewer active users receives more dominance per dragon that they exalt than a Flight with many active users. Leveled dragons contribute more dominance than untrained dragons. Weighting information is hidden to keep tension in the dominance competition. The rewards are as follows: [quote name="Xhaztol" date="2014-10-04 23:48:21"][center] [indent][size=4][b]First Place[/b][/size] [LIST] [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/icon_treasure.png[/img] +1500 treasure a day [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/icons/forsale.png[/img] 15% off treasure marketplace items [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/dominanceduex/icon_lair.png[/img] 5% off lair expansions [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/dominance/gathering_icon.png[/img] +3 gathering turns [/LIST] [size=4][b]Second Place[/b][/size] [LIST] [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/icon_treasure.png[/img] +750 treasure a day [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/icons/forsale.png[/img] 7% off treasure marketplace items [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/dominanceduex/icon_lair.png[/img] 1% off lair expansions [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/dominance/gathering_icon.png[/img] +2 gathering turns [/LIST] [size=4][b]Third Place[/b][/size] [LIST] [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/icon_treasure.png[/img] +375 treasure a day [*][img]http://flightrising.com/images/layout/dominance/gathering_icon.png[/img] +1 gathering turns [/LIST][/indent] ... [b]If the Beastclans occupy one of these three top slots, the rewards for that slot will be locked out for that week.[/b][/quote] [b]Breeding, Colours and Cooldown[/b] [i]Can different breed types of dragons breed?[/i] Any breed of dragon can breed with any other... somehow. [i]The hatchling preview lied or Why doesn't my Hatchling look like the preview?[/i] The hatchling preview only shows you 4 possible offspring at a time, there is no guarantee that those combinations are the ones you are going to get. For a better idea of possible offspring try getting several previews and check out how colour inheritance works. [i]How do colours work?[/i] With the help of this handy wheel you can find the potential colours of the offspring. [img]http://media.tumblr.com/0c479101468110de134934fad5469a62/tumblr_inline_mmmw9uTdZh1r0vr4u.jpg[/img] Simply take the colours of the dragons and find the shortest distance between them. All colours on this path are possible outcomes. This is why a black dragon and a red dragon might have pink or white babies. If you would rather have a computer figure out potential offspring colours, you can use Scrying Workshop's Foresee Progeny to get some examples. This feature works the same way as the offspring preview in your nest and therefore won't show every potential offspring, but you can use it to see the offspring of individuals you don't own yet. If you are going to buy a dragon, don't forget to check their pedigree to make sure they can mate with the dragon you have in mind (you can check this with Assay Bloodlines). If you would like to get an idea of the spectrum you may also try outside predictors such as [url]http://fr.fintastic.net/[/url] (formally known as trollslum due to the website it was hosted at). Keep in mind that outside sites like these are not endorsed or overseen by FR. [i]What is tertiary colour?[/i] The tertiary colour only shows up when a dragon has a tertiary gene (like circuit or gembond). These genes show up over the primary and secondary colours. [i]How do I change a dragon's eye colour?[/i] You cannot change a dragon's eye colour at this time, it is an indication of the element the dragon has. Each Flight has it's own eye colour, and any dragon born in your nest will have the same eye colour regardless of the Flights the parents are from. In my case I could breed a Shadow (dark purple eyes) dragon to a Plague dragon (red eyes) but the hatchlings will all have yellow eyes because I am Light flight. You can get dragons with different eye colours by trading with other players (or finding orphaned eggs) but remember these eye colours will not be inherited. [i]Gene inheritance[/i] All genes are dominant; this means that what you see is what you get. Genes will not skip generations; if a parent does not have it there is no way that the offspring will inherit it. If there are two types of genes there may be a difference of inheritance rate. The basic gene will be more likely to be passed on than treasure or gem genes. Treasure genes will be more likely to be passed on then gem genes. [i]What is breeding cooldown?[/i] Every type of dragon has a set amount of time that they will be unable to breed after having eggs, this helps limit population explosions. The amount of time this takes depends on the breed: plentiful breeds (mirrors, guardians, tundras and faes) having a cool down of 15 days while rarer breeds can have a cool down of up to 35 days. All dragons except progenitors start with a cool down that is breed appropriate. (So all orphaned dragons will have a 15 day cool down.) Specific cooldowns can be found at the bottom of [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=wiki&article=8]this[/url] page. [i]Is there any way to reduce the breeding cooldown?[/i] Currently there is no way to reduce the cooldown besides waiting for it to elapse. [i]If I use a breed change scroll on my dragon, will it change the cool down time?[/i] Although the text currently states that breed change scrolls can only be applied when cool down has expired, they can be applied as long as the dragon is not tending a nest. Once the item has been applied the next cool down will be appropriate to the dragon's breed. The scroll does not affect the amount of time that the current cool down will take. [b]Gold, Items and Familiars[/b] [i]How do I get treasure (gold)?[/i] You can get treasure from playing fair games, trading in junk to Crim or selling items and dragons through the auction house or threads to other players. If no one is buying, you can sell the items for a small amount (the sell price listed when you hover over the items) by selecting the items in your hoard and pressing the sell button. [i]Trading items[/i] There is no service dedicated to this at the moment but you can send items to another user. In the message composition you can attach gems, treasure or items by clicking in the appropriate area. [i]What do I do with all this junk?[/i] Items you find or win in the coliseum can be sold (or traded) to other players, traded to Swipp for other items, sold to Crim for treasure or sold back to the system for a small but guaranteed amount of treasure. There are plans for a crafting system, but we don’t know when that will be implemented. [b]Familiars[/b] [i]How do I get familiars?[/i] You can buy them from the marketplace or auction house, acquire them in the coliseum by defeating them as an enemy, trading for them at Swipp's or receive them from Pinkerton. There is also the chance you will find them in treasure chests or while gathering. [i]What good are familiars?[/i] They are pretty to look at, and if you give one to your dragons they can bond with them once a day. When you spend time with the familiar (by clicking the heart on the profile of a dragon equipped with one) their bond will increase and they will give you a small amount of treasure, as the bond increases the rewards will also increase. [i]I can only equip one X type familiar, is it broken?[/i] This is working as intended, you can own as many of one type of familiar as you like but you may only equip one of them at a time. You will be able to see all the familiars you own in the hoard, but only those types that are not currently equipped will show up in the box when you try to equip one. [i]What happens to the bonding level of a familiar when ...?[/i] Bonding level is specific to the type of familiar, not to the individual familiar. This means that you can move familiars around, or even sell them and when you equip that type of familiar again it will be at the same bonding level as when you removed it. Remember, to increase bonding level you need to equip them and then "pet" them by clicking on the heart button in their box. You can bond with them once a day. [b]Forum[/b] [i]What are the fancy forum backgrounds? How do I get one?[/i] They are called forum vistas and they will eventually be available by getting certain acheivements or completing certain activities. The current vistas are from Kickstarter support (bottom 4 vistas in the following picture), beta testing or being an admin/mod. [img]http://i.imgur.com/EU1HfNR.png[/img] Twilight Cloudscape ... Nightmare Pass ....... Golden City ...... Workshop Window The special vista is called Outer Planes and has been awarded to those in the "Special Thanks" area of the credits page. Vistas as rewards for those who have won a skin contest and people who have contributed to item descriptions can be seen [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=mb&board=ann&id=1202477&page=1]here[/url]. Thanks to [user=Oanana] for the picture. [i]How do I change my Avatar?[/i] Click on the little arrow beside your name and select “Change Avatar”. You will be able to pick from any dragon in your lair to represent you. [i]What do the bracketed letters in forums mean?[/i] In the sales forums: A is Auction, B is buying, S is selling, T is trading, R is most often for Reserves (dragons from future clutches) but sometimes for raffles. RTB is short for Ready To Breed. In the bug forums: T is for a tracking thread, these are the ones that the admins are monitoring and the ones that you should post in if they are related to a problem you have found. [i]How do I insert item picture/description thingies?[/i] Use this handy code [ item= Item name] without the space between [ and item. For example [ item=white knight] will turn into [item=white knight] when the first space is removed. [b]Note[/b]: You have to know the item's name and keep the correct spacing for this trick to work. Also note that this trick does not work with skins to allow different skins with the same name, and with some items that have an apostrophe in their name. [i]Can I insert someone's avatar in the forums?[/i] Yes you can, just use [ user=Username] Without the first space. For example [ user=Alphares] will become [user=Alphares] when the space is removed. If you click on the icon it will take you to their clan page. [i]How do I show off my dragon? How do you have the picture of the dragon link in the forums?[/i] There are a few ways to do it, but the easiest I've found is to go to the dragon's page and click on the "Generate Code" button. If you copy and paste the BBCode section into your post you will have a clickable picture that is linked to that dragon's page. [i]How do you insert clickable links? Can you hide them behind clickable words?[/i] There is a button that looks like a chain (to the left of the tree) and if you click it you will be able to insert the url of the site you wish to link to. If you'd prefer to code it yourself simply put the url you wish to use between the ] and [ bracket in the middle of [url][/url]. If you'd prefer it to be a word you can use the BBCode: [@URL=www.link.com]Text for Link[/URL], without the @. [i]How do you link to a specific post?[/i] [user=SystemError] has a guide [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=mb&board=gde&id=1192573]here[/url]. [i]How do you "ping" someone? I want to be sure a particular person sees I have replied, how can I do that?[/i] If you type @ before the username, without a space. That user will be sent an alert notifying them that they have been mentioned in a post. For example, if you wanted my attention you would simply type @Praeses somewhere in the message and I will get a notification. [i]Can you view your recent forum activity?[/i] There is a window on your clan page that shows the last 7 threads you posted on, if you want to see more you can click on the title of that box (Recent Forum Activity). You can also see where you have posted recently if you click on the arrow near your username, click on Account Settings and click on the Manage button under Forum Subscriptions. However, this list does not have clickable links. [i]What is the maximum size for forum signatures?[/i] It is 500 pixels by 100 pixels. [b]Note:[/b] There seems to be a bug at this time, and to ensure the bottom of your banner/signature does not get cut off it is recommended to be 90-94 pixels high or less. If you have experienced this error please visit [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=mb&board=bug&id=464430] this thread[/url] and add your information to the report. [i]Aren't we supposed to get alerts from forums we are subscribed to?[/i] Yes we are. But there are some tangled webs behind the scenes and quite often the alerts that would occur during a new post will not go through. The alerts may be disabled by the admins while bug hunting continues. If you would like to remove a thread from your subscriptions list, click on the arrow near your username, click on Account Settings and click on the Manage button under Forum Subscriptions. You can then click the X by any thread title to remove it from your subscriptions. [b]Can I preview X? How do I preview X?[/b] [i]Can I preview breed change, gene scrolls or apparel?[/i] Breed change and gene scrolls can be previewed for a dragon through the Predict Morphology option in Scrying Workshop. If you take the dragon's ID number (the numbers under their name on their page) and put it in the box on the Predict Morphology page to fill out the dragon's appearance. You can then change gene options to see what the dragon would look like. Keep in mind that you can change a dragon's breed or genes easily, but colour can only be changed randomly (with a tri-scatter scroll). Apparel can be previewed on a blank dragon by clicking on the apparel's picture in the marketplace, you will have to select which breed and gender you want to see it on from a drop down menu. [i]Search is disabled, is there another way to find the dragon I am looking for?[/i] You can use Google to help you find dragons with a particular colour or gene combination by using this formula [code]site:flightrising.com “Primary {Colour} {Gene}” “Secondary {Colour} {Gene}” “Tertiary {Colour} {Gene}” “{Breed} {Gender}” -board[/code] and replacing the words between the curly brackets with the appropriate name (don't forget to remove the curly brackets from the search). [b]Coliseum[/b] [i]I can’t fight in the coliseum?[/i] If you can get into the coliseum but you aren’t allowed to fight, make sure you have a team. You need to make sure all dragons on the team have a name and are adults, or they will not be allowed to fight. Additionally, dragons whose energy is too low will not be allowed to fight until they have at least 20 (checking this number) energy. If the coliseum won’t load, it may be down for maintenance. Check the announcements or bug boards for status information on the coliseum. [i]The coliseum is kicking my butt, what’s going on?[/i] After the training grounds, the coliseum is balanced with the assumption you have a team of 3 dragons. This means that a team with only 2 dragons is going to have a tough go of things. Try to get another adult dragon to help you out. If you are still having problems try to equip some battle stones as they will give you more tactical options. [b]Note:[/b] At level 7 the enemies start using elemental attacks, which means you have to watch for elemental weaknesses. It is a good idea to get dragons from several elements to take advantage of elemental strengths and weaknesses. [i]What are the elemental strengths and weaknesses?[/i] [img]http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/1268/elementchartfr.png[/img] Read the chart as the element on the left is attacking the element on the top. [i]Can I remove Battlestones?[/i] No, once a battlestone is placed and locked for use it will stay there until another stone overwrites it. You do not get battlestones back when you put another stone in the slot. [i]I can’t equip the battlestone, what’s wrong?[/i] Make sure that the dragon’s element and the stone's element are the same. Also double check that the slot is unlocked and the stone is the right one for the row you are trying to put it in. If you are absolutely sure it should go where you are trying to put it, check the bug forum for a relevant topic. [i]I don't know what the types of battlestones are, can I have more information?[/i] Salmastryon has started a helpful list of battlestones, divided by elements and types, you can find it [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?board=help&id=50501&p=mb]here[/url]. [b]Other questions[/b] [i]Where can I find Crim, Swip, and Pinkerton?[/i] They can all be found in the Trading Post area. Crim is the dragon with the sacks of stuff, Swip has the fancy wagon and Pinkerton has... well, a pile of Crim's loot. [i]Stars everywhere[/i] Stars in the forum posts under the username indicate a rough number of forum posts. 1 star is 25 or more, 2 is 50 or more, 3 is 100 or more and so on. 1000 posts gets you the super shiny star. Stars in item description indicate rarity with, one yellow star being the lowest increasing up to five then the shiny star which is very rare. (If my numbers are off, please let me know). [i]Search is down, why?[/i] It has been disabled while the site is being optimized, there are some ways around this inconvienience. For a user: If you have their ID number, you can get the URL for their page by putting their ID at the end of this [code]http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=view&tab=userpage&id=[/code]. If you are looking for your ID number go to your dragon lair page and it will be the number at the end of the address bar. For a dragon that has been exalted: If you want to find a dragon that has been exalted you need their ID number (the number after did= in the address for their page) and enter it at the end of this address [code]http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=view&id=0&tab=dragon&did=[/code] Note that user 0 means the dragon is exalted. For a dragon of a specific colour: Google the following with the appropriate colours filled in:[code]site:flightrising.com “Primary {Colour} {Gene}” “Secondary {Colour} {Gene}” “Tertiary {Colour} {Gene}” “{Breed} {Gender}” -board[/code] Don't forget to remove the curly brackets from the search. If you don't care about a particular search term, remove it. [i]Why can't I access the enemy index?[/i] The enemy index mentioned in the bestiary can’t be found because it is not currently enabled, the tooltip will be edited to reflect this soon. [i]What are the bars in the top corner for?[/i] The top one represents your current clan energy. If you keep it above the rightmost bar (80%) for three days you will get the well fed bonus. If it drops below the bottom bar (20% I believe) your dragons will be unable to breed or fight in the coliseum until they have been fed. The second bar helps you track how close you are to the well fed bonus. When it is full you are receiving the well fed bonus. [i]When do things reset?[/i] Daily events, such as gathering and Pinkerton, reset at midnight PST. Crim’s offers reset every hour on the hour. Swip’s offer changes every 2 hours (and there is a handy countdown to tell you when the next offer will be up). The Marketplace does not restock it's full selection at any given time, each subsection of the marketplace has a chance to restock a random assortment of its items every 5 minutes. The amount of each item that is stocked (if it is selected to be restocked) is within a range set by the admin for that item. To prevent a buildup of unwanted stock the marketplace is emptied every 2 hours. [i]What is the clock for?[/i] The clock is the server time (PST) and it is there to allow users to figure out when the day will end, and to give people a common time. This is not a live clock at the moment, you need to refresh the page to update it. [i]Is there more information on the world?[/i] Yes. There are some questions that seem to come up often so I thought I would try to collect the answers in one place.
*Note: It is a very good idea to visit the encyclopedia which you can find on the side bar under the Library heading (or by clicking here). It has detailed information on dragon breeds, customization (including skins and genes), and what you can do on the site. This includes more details on a lot of the answers that are condensed on this page and, since it's provided by official sources, it's more likely to be accurate and stay up to date.*

Dragons
When do dragons grow up?
Dragons become adults at the age of 5, however if you can’t wait you may use a Scroll of Maturity and they will become adults.
*Note* Dragon age is rounded down. This means that a dragon that is 5 days and 20 hours old will have their age listed as 5 days old. If they are older than 6 days and appear as a hatchling please try the following:
  1. In the lair view, click the red refresh arrow next to the dragon's name
  2. Apply a skin or piece of apparel to the dragon
  3. Pair the dragon with a familiar, then have the dragon bond with it
  4. Have someone else view the dragon
If these steps don't help, either a Scroll of Eternal Youth was used on them (there should be a related icon) OR there is a bug.

Can my dragon die?
No, your dragon will not die from ageing, sickness or starvation. The only way a dragon will leave your care is if you sell, trade, or exalt them.

Why is my dragon so small? Do dragons grow?
Dragons (including progenitors) grow until they are 15-35 days old. Their final size is somewhere within the range for their breed but the final size is random.
*Note: There is currently a bug with some breeds where the parent's size will reset upon breeding, they will grow up again by the time their cool down period is over.*

What is a progenitor?
The two dragons you receive when you start your clan are your progenitors. You cannot trade or sell these dragons. You can use a Tri-Color Scatterscroll to change their (or any other dragons') colour, be careful though the colours are random. You can exalt these dragons for no treasure/dominance if you really want to get rid of them, but you should consider breeding them first.

How do I get more dragons?
The easiest way is to breed your progenitors, they will have a nest of 1-5 eggs which will hatch after 5 incubations, or if you want to see them now you can use a Boon of Fertility and they will hatch right away. See the encyclopedia's breeding page for more information. You can also buy dragons from the auction house, or trade with other players. If you don’t have the resources to buy or trade, you might be able to find unhatched eggs from the coliseum, Pinkerton’s pile, or from scavenging.

What are the nest sizes? I keep getting one egg nests, bug or bad luck?
Here are the probabilities for the nest sizes:
Akiri wrote on 2013-6-27 04:06:03:
When you interbreed 2 dragons of different species, this table is used: A chance at a 5th egg is added because you rolled the dice with species outcome.
  • 5 eggs (5%)
  • 4 eggs (10%)
  • 3 eggs (45%)
  • 2 eggs (30%)
  • 1 egg (10%)
If you breed two dragons of the same species, this table is used:
  • 4 eggs (12%)
  • 3 eggs (40%)
  • 2 eggs (38%)
  • 1 egg (10%)
Note that it is possible to get several nests of 1 egg in a row, similar to the possibility of flipping a coin and getting heads 10 times in a row. This is not a bug, this is the random number generator doing it's job. The odds work out when examining nest sizes of all users (but not necessarily an individual user's nests), and is closely monitored by the admin.

How do I get different types of dragons?
You can get different dragon types from other users, through trades or sales in the auction house or you can purchase breed change scrolls in the marketplace under the specialty tab. Breed changes may be available from users also. Some dragon types will be much rarer than others, for example Imperial dragons were for Kickstarter backers and the scrolls will get rarer as time goes on, although users will be able to breed them indefinitely.

Trading dragons
You can go to the crossroads to trade a dragon for a dragon, gems or treasure. You cannot use the crossroads to trade a dragon for items at this time. However, you can set up a trade for one treasure and then send the item through the private message system.
Note: The crossroad does not support cross currency payment. Payments that are mixed (for example gems and treasure) will require a trade for the dragon with one of the currencies and a note to the owner with the rest of the payment, remember that this is an unsupported transaction.

Unhatched/Orphaned/Parentless Eggs
These eggs can be found in the coliseum (in any area), Pinkerton's pile, or through scavenging they take up no nest space and can be hatched whenever you like.

Feeding and Energy
What is the well fed bonus?
When you keep your clan’s energy above 80% for three days in a row you receive some daily benefits: +5 gathering turns, +1 gem, +250 treasure, +15% experience from the coliseum. To get the benefit you must keep the clan’s energy above 80% for 3 whole days. If the energy drops to 79% or lower you will need to start again, so watch your energy levels.

When does energy decrease?
Energy decreases when you flee in the coliseum (-2 energy for each participating dragon) or have your team knocked out (-5 energy for each participating dragon). It also decreases throughout the day, as of November 12, 2013 every dragon in your clan will lose 1 energy point every 8 hours (as stated by Xhaztol in a news post).

What food does my dragon eat?
You can see a list of the types of food that each breed will eat if you hover over their picture in the clan menu or you can check out the encyclopedia entry for the breed.

How many food points do I need?
1 food point will restore 1 energy for 1 dragon, assuming it is a food type that dragon will consume. To determine what food types your dragon will eat, please see the previous paragraph.
Remember that some dragons such as those on your coliseum team, those coming from another player (through auction house or crossroads), or those that haven't been fed for a bit (due to lack of appropriate food points); may require more energy than your other dragons.

What happens when my dragon loses energy?
When your dragon loses energy, very little changes until they reach 20% or lower. At this point they do not have the energy to breed (they will not show up in the drop down list) or fight in the coliseum (they will disappear from your party and display with a red overly in the party select menu). This can be corrected by feeding them so that they have enough energy again.
Your dragon will not die or become sick due to having low energy

What happens when clan energy reaches 0?
There are no penalties associated with a clan energy of 0. However, dragons that have little to no energy are unable to fight or breed.

I have food but can't feed my dragons. How do I restock food points?
The food you see in your hoard are still items.

Exalting and Dominance
Exalting
Dragons from your clan can be exalted to serve your deity, they will serve your god regardless of which flight they originally came from. They will leave a small amount of treasure and occasionally gems depending on their coliseum level, and contribute to the dominance of your flight. Once they’ve gone they won’t come back, so be very careful who you send to do their patriotic duty. Progenitors can now be exalted but they will not contribute to dominance or give you any reward.

What are the rewards for exalting?
Progenitors do not give any rewards or contribute to dominance when they are exalted. For all other dragons the rewards are as follows:
  • A boost to your Flight's dominance (See the next topic for more information).
  • 2000-3000 treasure for a level one dragon and (an estimated) 1500 per additional level.
  • Rarely you will also get a small number of gems.
Currently I have no estimation for the drop chance or amount of gems.
  • Space in your lair.
What is dominance? How is it determined?
Dominance is a site-wide competition between flights (and the Beast Clans). The rewards are as follows:
Xhaztol wrote on 2014-10-04 23:48:21:
First Place
  • icon_treasure.png +1500 treasure a day
  • forsale.png 15% off treasure marketplace items
  • icon_lair.png 5% off lair expansions
  • gathering_icon.png +3 gathering turns
Second Place
  • icon_treasure.png +750 treasure a day
  • forsale.png 7% off treasure marketplace items
  • icon_lair.png 1% off lair expansions
  • gathering_icon.png +2 gathering turns
Third Place
  • icon_treasure.png +375 treasure a day
  • gathering_icon.png +1 gathering turns
...
If the Beastclans occupy one of these three top slots, the rewards for that slot will be locked out for that week.

Breeding, Colours and Cooldown
Can different breed types of dragons breed?
Any breed of dragon can breed with any other... somehow.

The hatchling preview lied or Why doesn't my Hatchling look like the preview?
The hatchling preview only shows you 4 possible offspring at a time, there is no guarantee that those combinations are the ones you are going to get. For a better idea of possible offspring try getting several previews and check out how colour inheritance works.

How do colours work?
With the help of this handy wheel you can find the potential colours of the offspring. tumblr_inline_mmmw9uTdZh1r0vr4u.jpg

Simply take the colours of the dragons and find the shortest distance between them.

If you would like to get an idea of the spectrum you may also try outside predictors such as http://fr.fintastic.net/ (formally known as trollslum due to the website it was hosted at). Keep in mind that outside sites like these are not endorsed or overseen by FR.

What is tertiary colour?
The tertiary colour only shows up when a dragon has a tertiary gene (like circuit or gembond). These genes show up over the primary and secondary colours.

How do I change a dragon's eye colour?
You cannot change a dragon's eye colour at this time, it is an indication of the element the dragon has.

Gene inheritance
All genes are dominant; this means that what you see is what you get.

What is breeding cooldown?
Every type of dragon has a set amount of time that they will be unable to breed after having eggs, this helps limit population explosions. The amount of time this takes depends on the breed: plentiful breeds (mirrors, guardians, tundras and faes) having a cool down of 15 days while rarer breeds can have a cool down of up to 35 days. All dragons except progenitors start with a cool down that is breed appropriate. (So all orphaned dragons will have a 15 day cool down.) Specific cooldowns can be found at the bottom of this page.

Is there any way to reduce the breeding cooldown?
Currently there is no way to reduce the cooldown besides waiting for it to elapse.

If I use a breed change scroll on my dragon, will it change the cool down time?
Although the text currently states that breed change scrolls can only be applied when cool down has expired, they can be applied as long as the dragon is not tending a nest. Once the item has been applied the next cool down will be appropriate to the dragon's breed. The scroll does not affect the amount of time that the current cool down will take.

Gold, Items and Familiars
How do I get treasure (gold)?
You can get treasure from playing fair games, trading in junk to Crim or selling items and dragons through the auction house or threads to other players. If no one is buying, you can sell the items for a small amount (the sell price listed when you hover over the items) by selecting the items in your hoard and pressing the sell button.

Trading items
There is no service dedicated to this at the moment but you can send items to another user. In the message composition you can attach gems, treasure or items by clicking in the appropriate area.

What do I do with all this junk?
Items you find or win in the coliseum can be sold (or traded) to other players, traded to Swipp for other items, sold to Crim for treasure or sold back to the system for a small but guaranteed amount of treasure. There are plans for a crafting system, but we don’t know when that will be implemented.

Familiars
How do I get familiars?
You can buy them from the marketplace or auction house, acquire them in the coliseum by defeating them as an enemy, trading for them at Swipp's or receive them from Pinkerton. There is also the chance you will find them in treasure chests or while gathering.

What good are familiars?
They are pretty to look at, and if you give one to your dragons they can bond with them once a day. When you spend time with the familiar (by clicking the heart on the profile of a dragon equipped with one) their bond will increase and they will give you a small amount of treasure, as the bond increases the rewards will also increase.

I can only equip one X type familiar, is it broken?
This is working as intended, you can own as many of one type of familiar as you like but you may only equip one of them at a time. You will be able to see all the familiars you own in the hoard, but only those types that are not currently equipped will show up in the box when you try to equip one.

What happens to the bonding level of a familiar when ...?
Bonding level is specific to the type of familiar, not to the individual familiar. This means that you can move familiars around, or even sell them and when you equip that type of familiar again it will be at the same bonding level as when you removed it.
Remember, to increase bonding level you need to equip them and then "pet" them by clicking on the heart button in their box. You can bond with them once a day.

Forum
What are the fancy forum backgrounds? How do I get one?
They are called forum vistas and they will eventually be available by getting certain acheivements or completing certain activities. The current vistas are from Kickstarter support (bottom 4 vistas in the following picture), beta testing or being an admin/mod.
EU1HfNR.png
Twilight Cloudscape ... Nightmare Pass ....... Golden City ...... Workshop Window
The special vista is called Outer Planes and has been awarded to those in the "Special Thanks" area of the credits page. Vistas as rewards for those who have won a skin contest and people who have contributed to item descriptions can be seen here.
Thanks to for the picture.

How do I change my Avatar?
Click on the little arrow beside your name and select “Change Avatar”. You will be able to pick from any dragon in your lair to represent you.

What do the bracketed letters in forums mean?
In the sales forums: A is Auction, B is buying, S is selling, T is trading, R is most often for Reserves (dragons from future clutches) but sometimes for raffles. RTB is short for Ready To Breed.
In the bug forums: T is for a tracking thread, these are the ones that the admins are monitoring and the ones that you should post in if they are related to a problem you have found.

How do I insert item picture/description thingies?
Use this handy code [ item= Item name] without the space between [ and item. For example [ item=white knight] will turn into White Knight when the first space is removed. Note: You have to know the item's name and keep the correct spacing for this trick to work. Also note that this trick does not work with skins to allow different skins with the same name, and with some items that have an apostrophe in their name.

Can I insert someone's avatar in the forums?
Yes you can, just use [ user=Username] Without the first space. For example [ user=Alphares] will become when the space is removed. If you click on the icon it will take you to their clan page.

How do I show off my dragon? How do you have the picture of the dragon link in the forums?
There are a few ways to do it, but the easiest I've found is to go to the dragon's page and click on the "Generate Code" button. If you copy and paste the BBCode section into your post you will have a clickable picture that is linked to that dragon's page.

How do you insert clickable links? Can you hide them behind clickable words?
There is a button that looks like a chain (to the left of the tree) and if you click it you will be able to insert the url of the site you wish to link to. If you'd prefer to code it yourself simply put the url you wish to use between the ] and [ bracket in the middle of [url][/url]. If you'd prefer it to be a word you can use the BBCode: [@URL=www.link.com]Text for Link[/URL], without the @.

How do you link to a specific post?
has a guide here.

How do you "ping" someone? I want to be sure a particular person sees I have replied, how can I do that?
If you type @ before the username, without a space. That user will be sent an alert notifying them that they have been mentioned in a post. For example, if you wanted my attention you would simply type @Praeses somewhere in the message and I will get a notification.

Can you view your recent forum activity?
There is a window on your clan page that shows the last 7 threads you posted on, if you want to see more you can click on the title of that box (Recent Forum Activity). You can also see where you have posted recently if you click on the arrow near your username, click on Account Settings and click on the Manage button under Forum Subscriptions. However, this list does not have clickable links.

What is the maximum size for forum signatures?
It is 500 pixels by 100 pixels. Note: There seems to be a bug at this time, and to ensure the bottom of your banner/signature does not get cut off it is recommended to be 90-94 pixels high or less. If you have experienced this error please visit this thread and add your information to the report.

Aren't we supposed to get alerts from forums we are subscribed to?
Yes we are.

Can I preview X? How do I preview X?
Can I preview breed change, gene scrolls or apparel?
Breed change and gene scrolls can be previewed for a dragon through the Predict Morphology option in Scrying Workshop.

Search is disabled, is there another way to find the dragon I am looking for?
You can use Google to help you find dragons with a particular colour or gene combination by using this formula
Code:
site:flightrising.com “Primary {Colour} {Gene}” “Secondary {Colour} {Gene}” “Tertiary {Colour} {Gene}” “{Breed} {Gender}” -board
and replacing the words between the curly brackets with the appropriate name (don't forget to remove the curly brackets from the search).

Coliseum
I can’t fight in the coliseum?
If you can get into the coliseum but you aren’t allowed to fight, make sure you have a team.

The coliseum is kicking my butt, what’s going on?
After the training grounds, the coliseum is balanced with the assumption you have a team of 3 dragons. This means that a team with only 2 dragons is going to have a tough go of things. Try to get another adult dragon to help you out. If you are still having problems try to equip some battle stones as they will give you more tactical options. Note: At level 7 the enemies start using elemental attacks, which means you have to watch for elemental weaknesses. It is a good idea to get dragons from several elements to take advantage of elemental strengths and weaknesses.

What are the elemental strengths and weaknesses?
elementchartfr.png
Read the chart as the element on the left is attacking the element on the top.

Can I remove Battlestones?
No, once a battlestone is placed and locked for use it will stay there until another stone overwrites it. You do not get battlestones back when you put another stone in the slot.

I can’t equip the battlestone, what’s wrong?
Make sure that the dragon’s element and the stone's element are the same. Also double check that the slot is unlocked and the stone is the right one for the row you are trying to put it in. If you are absolutely sure it should go where you are trying to put it, check the bug forum for a relevant topic.

I don't know what the types of battlestones are, can I have more information?
Salmastryon has started a helpful list of battlestones, divided by elements and types, you can find it here.

Other questions
Where can I find Crim, Swip, and Pinkerton?
They can all be found in the Trading Post area. Crim is the dragon with the sacks of stuff, Swip has the fancy wagon and Pinkerton has... well, a pile of Crim's loot.

Stars everywhere
Stars in the forum posts under the username indicate a rough number of forum posts.

Search is down, why?
It has been disabled while the site is being optimized, there are some ways around this inconvienience.
For a user: If you have their ID number, you can get the URL for their page by putting their ID at the end of this
Code:
http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=view&tab=userpage&id=
. If you are looking for your ID number go to your dragon lair page and it will be the number at the end of the address bar.
For a dragon that has been exalted: If you want to find a dragon that has been exalted you need their ID number (the number after did= in the address for their page) and enter it at the end of this address
Code:
http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=view&id=0&tab=dragon&did=
Note that user 0 means the dragon is exalted.
For a dragon of a specific colour: Google the following with the appropriate colours filled in:
Code:
site:flightrising.com “Primary {Colour} {Gene}” “Secondary {Colour} {Gene}” “Tertiary {Colour} {Gene}” “{Breed} {Gender}” -board
Don't forget to remove the curly brackets from the search. If you don't care about a particular search term, remove it.

Why can't I access the enemy index?
The enemy index mentioned in the bestiary can’t be found because it is not currently enabled, the tooltip will be edited to reflect this soon.

What are the bars in the top corner for?
The top one represents your current clan energy.

When do things reset?
Daily events, such as gathering and Pinkerton, reset at midnight PST.

What is the clock for?
The clock is the server time (PST) and it is there to allow users to figure out when the day will end, and to give people a common time. This is not a live clock at the moment, you need to refresh the page to update it.

Is there more information on the world?
Yes. Check out the encyclopedia, it's got some really neat information in it. :) The world map also provides blurbs on the different territories and some of the things that can be found there.

I looked in the encyclopedia but I couldn't find the information I was looking for
It's still a work in progress so it might not be complete. However, if you think there is something missing feel free to comment here or in the suggestion forum and we will ask the mods and admin to add it. :) They might not realize a topic is needed or unclear with all the other things they have to keep an eye on.

I think I ran into a bug, what should I do?
If you are not sure it is ok to ask in the help forum first. If you do make a report please check for threads tagged with a [T] related to your problem first. These are the admin's tracking threads and posting there (if it's related) is the best way to help them out. If there is no tracking thread please check for other threads related to the the problem, it is easier for the admins to figure out what's going on if all the info is in one spot. If you can't find any threads on the subject, then go ahead and start one. Let's find all the bugs so the codesmiths can squash them. :)

I would like some more information...
A list of helpful threads has been compiled here by Salmastryon.
Battlestone information can be found in this thread by Salmastryon.
Coliseum and loot tables can be found in this thread by Pepperdragon.

That's it for now, if they are more questions feel free to post here. Tell me if anything seems unclear or needs more detail.

Edit 8/26/2013: Realized that some info (progenitor, how to get other breeds, and clutch size/probability) was under the next header, fixed it. Put the quote frame around Clutch probabilities). Added Oanana's picture showing forum vistas.
Edit 9/07/2013: Search workarounds, including how to search Google for specific dragon colours. Updated hatching information to refer to "incubations" instead of rollovers (may have missed some, will review later).

Edit 10/12/2013: Updated energy loss over time (every 6 hours instead of 4).
Edit 11/21/2013: Updated energy loss over time (every 8 hours instead of 6). Updated links broken from new sub-forum creation.
Edit 12/3/2013: Added 1 food point recovers 1 energy, low dragon energy consequence, what happens at clan energy = 0, familiars can be gathered.
Edit 1/24/2014: Added clarification that adulthood is not a sign of RTB status, in and of itself, and a referral to the cool down information lower in the post.
Edit 2/06/2014: Added known ways to force picture updates for dragons that do not appear to age.
Edit 4/15/2014: Added that you can use scatter scrolls on progens (before explaining about exalting them), added references to Scrying Workshop in "How colours work", reorganized "I can't fight in coliseum" to reflect the most likely causes. Also various small grammar/wording changes. Removed edit history before 7/3/2013 due to space restrictions.

You may also want to add an explanation of how food gets converted to be used, because I've seen a lot of people confused about that. [Unless you have it already and I missed it.]

You're right I missed that part. I'll see if I can find the space to wedge it in there.

Also, how to do the user ping and item pictures in forum posts come up a lot. How to link you dragon using the generated code probably a good one too.

You might want to organize some sub categories as well. Like for forums battle etc....

I'm back, but life is being complicated. It probably will take awhile for me to reply, because I log on irratically.
Thanks a bunch for putting this together, definitely answered a few questions I had!

@Salmastryon I was planning on making it a bit easier to navigate, but was concerned about hitting a character or size limit. Although, come to think of it I'm not sure there is a character limit for a post. I will tinker with the first post and see if I can make it more reader friendly.

@Arden I'm glad I could help.

A post like this definitely needed to be made. Thank you for taking the time to lay it out so nicely ( even included pictures), Praeses! I wonder if we could get one of the admin to pin this post to the top, so it doesn't get buried?

I didn't realize that about the color wheel, where everything in between the two parent colors is possible! No wonder my two adults' offspring have such limited possibilities =( They are only two colors away from each other.

@Salmastryon Do you think it's easier to navigate now?

@JCStitches It was just going to be a quick little thing, and then I realized that there were a lot of questions that were floating around. I'm glad you liked it before, but I've changed the layout somewhat. Do you think that it is easier to read and find specific information now?
