SANGO'S REBELLION

-

A LEGACY OF WAR CHALLENGE
ehyaxnq.png

THE STORY
Deep in the Southern Icefield, in a cave carved out of the ice, unrest stirs. Leadership of the Core, a clan formed out of the scientific malpractice of its patriarch, is beginning to falter. Clan members who disagree with Daniel's ideas have begun to rebel, and it is thus deemed that a brave new heir to the clan must be found. In accordance with the beliefs of the rebellion's leader, Sango, the new leader will be, as prophesied, the product of ten generations of bloodshed.

THE CHALLENGE
This challenge will be using standard Legacy of War Challenge rules with a few modifications.

  • I will be using the Level Playing Field rule with Scratch and Shred stones.
  • I will also be using the Chosen One rule for Limited/Rare breeds and gem genes.

OTHER NOTES
  • The optimal final heir and future leader of the clan will be a triple-gened, aesthetically pleasing Limited or Rare breed (Imperial, Nocturne, Wildclaw, or Coatl).
  • As one generation of the legacy has been bred before instating the Legacy of War rules, the challenge will begin with generation three (Baja and Kickstart's hatchlings).
  • Each winning heir will inherit and wear Sango's Brown Wolf Cape to symbolize their legacy and loyalty to the rebellion.
  • After hatchlings are born and an heir is chosen, the disqualified heirs and the mate will be exalted to serve the Icewarden Flamecaller.

SPREADSHEET
I'm tracking my points here ! It should be mostly accurate, except that I forgot to keep track of costs/profits for the third generation.

CURRENT POINT TOTAL: 206

That said, I haven't written regularly in a long time; while I'm hoping this'll get me back into that flow, it might be a bit rough for right now. :P [s]One day I'm hoping to add more graphics/art/etc to this thread. I'm just. Wavecrest is less of an official clan leader and more of a traveling mercenary staying with the Core to train. He kept his voice quiet and level when he spoke. “I understand you have some complaints about the way the clan is being run.” “Yes,” Sango replied, striding further into the dark, cold cavern. With a slightly sarcastic tone, she added, “No offense.” Wavecrest laughed slightly. “It doesn’t affect me. I’m only passing through. Which, I assume, is why you decided to bring this up with me.” Passing through, Sango thought with a scoff. Puck seems to have other thoughts. She held her tongue, though, at least for now, while the meeting was going well. “I suppose you’d be right in assuming that. But really, I’m asking for your help. I have a proposition for you.” At this, the Skydancer tipped his head in interest; his pale blue eyes glinted in the low light. Sango continued, “I’ve been having strange dreams.” “I don’t do this kind of magic,” Wavecrest interjected. “Let me finish. I’ve been having strange dreams about... let’s say, my legacy. You know I just had a daughter.” “Baja,” Wavecrest said with a nod. Puck had been more involved than normal with this most recent nest, seeing as two of the three eggs never hatched—or so the clan had been led to believe. Wavecrest had his suspicions about Sango, but he knew by now to hold his tongue if he wanted to stay in the clan’s favor during his stay. “Baja. A lucky hatch, in more ways than one. She’s still young, but she’s powerful. I can sense it in her.” “And the dreams?” “I believe the dreams are telling me I am destined to have a long, powerful legacy. And I believe this legacy will be what helps me get this clan back on the right path. Into the right hands, if you will.” Wavecrest nodded respectfully. “But for that to work, I need these hatchlings to be strong. Stronger than even I am now. That’s why I’m requesting your help.” “To oversee their training.” “Not just that. I need each of my heirs to be the strongest of its clutch. The weak ones are useless to me. I want you to ensure that only the strongest young survives.” Wavecrest began to get the slightest inkling that what Sango was planning could be... unethical. And yet... “What’s in it for me?” Sango scoffed. “Not being killed when the uprising begins?” “Threats don’t scare me, Sango. I could crush you now if I wanted to.” Sango rolled all four of her blank white eyes. “You’ll get your share of loot from the monster battles. I have no use for trinkets.” Wavecrest nodded. A collector at heart, he was fascinated by Beastclan artifacts. Sango knew this. “I’ll help you,” Wavecrest said. “But I have one thing to ask of you.” Sango waited. “I implore that you consider Baja’s feelings as she grows older, else she will just become angry and jaded. If she is so fated to become a mother, that is no way for her to raise her hatchlings.” Sango considered this, rolling her head. Her fins twitched, and her claws scraped at the icy ground. Finally, she spoke: “Her anger will inspire her, and her heir. She will have no use for anything else.”
On that note, Baja & Kickstart will be RTB in 2 days! “Wavecrest.”

The Skydancer looked toward the entrance to his chamber where he saw the small, lean shape of another dragon: Sango, the young Mirror he’d summoned for. He kept his voice quiet and level when he spoke. “I understand you have some complaints about
the way the clan is being run.”

“Yes,” Sango replied, striding further into the dark, cold cavern. With a slightly sarcastic tone, she added, “No offense.”

Wavecrest laughed slightly. “It doesn’t affect me. I’m only passing through. Which, I assume, is why you decided to bring this up with me.”

Passing through, Sango thought with a scoff. Puck seems to have other thoughts. She held her tongue, though, at least for now, while the meeting was going well. “I suppose you’d be right in assuming that. But really, I’m asking for your help. I have a proposition for you.”

At this, the Skydancer tipped his head in interest; his pale blue eyes glinted in the low light.

Sango continued, “I’ve been having strange dreams.”

“I don’t do this kind of magic,” Wavecrest interjected.

“Let me finish. I’ve been having strange dreams about... let’s say, my legacy. You know I just had a daughter.”
Baja curled closer around the nest of branches and snow and sighed. Her warm breath pooled in the air in front of her nose, and she watched the fog dissipate. Twin ice eggs lay there beside her; they were cold to the touch, but she could already feel their magic stirring inside the ice. If she looked closely, she could see two tiny, shapeless forms curled up within. The entire den was freezing cold, but her mother's wolf pet draped across her back warmed her significantly. She stared at the eggs. She was still young; young enough that Puck had tried to caution her about having a nest so soon. But she knew what had to be done—her mother had made that clear enough to Baja very quickly. It was for the good of the clan, and Baja believed this—but still, staring at the pair of cold, cold eggs caused resentment to stir within her. It wasn't that she wasn't ready to raise hatchlings. It was that she didn't want to. Two eggs meant two hungry, screaming mouths and weak, useless scraps of scales. They would be nothing but a burden on her, just as her own mother had made it clear that Baja was a burden until she learned to fight for herself. Kickstart was a good mate. She respected him; she even admired him when she watched him hunt or fight. In better circumstances—with a better mate—the older Ridgeback would make a good father. But she had sent him away as soon as the nest was ready, despite his half-hearted protests. Once the eggs were created, they were her burden to bear alone. She stared at the eggs, and she waited. The icy surface of the eggs had begun to thin and crack, and then two tiny green beaks poked their way through. First was the male: a Ridgeback, like his father, and despite being blind and wordless was already insatiably restless. Several dread-filled minutes later came the female, a Mirror. She was significantly smaller than her twin brother, but with the same wolfish spirit. She cried and shrieked from the moment she was out of the egg; he was quieter, only chirping and crying in response to her noises. Now, they crawled over each other and around the nest, still working out the use of their legs and wings. As she watched them, Baja found it hard to believe that either of the helpless scraps before her would be a powerful heir as her mother had insisted. The male was the obvious one to root for, already so much bigger and stronger by the nature of his breed. But Baja also felt for the smaller Mirror. She herself had been born into a clutch of Snappers, and thus she had to fight from day one for food and attention. The fight hadn't lasted long, though--her brothers had soon disappeared from the den and Sango was insistent that they'd never been alive at all. Baja never dared to bring them up with her mother, but she still remembered their insistent cries and the feel of their rough, thick skin pressed against hers. When Kickstart was finally allowed to see the hatchlings, Baja let him name the Ridgeback. He chose the name Benedict, claiming that it sounded suitably royal for his successor. The female, Baja decided, was to be named Aleda. Now, Aleda cried out, and Benedict answered. They stayed together most of the time, clinging to each other's familiar warmth in the cold den. Benedict's size, however, made it easy for him to stumble over his sister, often resulting in the sharp sting of tiny claws. Baja felt a surge of pride every time Aleda retaliated; she was tiny, but she was a fighter. The two would learn and grow significantly in the next five days, quickly achieving maturity and earning their names in full. And then, the heir would be chosen.

I honestly don't really have the time or energy to write up a story bit today, but it's heir selection day! I decided to discard the Mandatory Coaches rule after a few battles because I kept habitually letting Baja attack and it was throwing me off. Still, Aleda and Baja withstood a fair amount of battles, fighting in sync, one amping it up when the other's HP dropped too low. Until... An Amaranth Moth took Aleda down, which means Benedict is the generation three heir. And his mate, Henrietta: Still trying to think of an in-lore reason for them to meet, but I'm picturing her as very flashy, free-spirited, that kind of personality. He's much more grounded, especially after witnessing his sister's untimely death. On that note... 16 days until they can breed! Called it! XD I ran Benedict and Henrietta trough the (S)crying Workshop. They're a bit of a gamble, but some of their potential offspring look pretty good, too!

Oh and btw, will you go back to write about heir selection day, or will you skip it entirely? Just curious :3
