What are the signs/symptoms of autism?
It's different for different people, since symptoms can show up to a greater or lesser degree, and the signs for adults can be different then children. The main three things to watch for however are difficulty with:
Each of these has their own subsections of things to watch out for.
Communication issues can be not understanding/being able to properly use voice tonations, not understanding jokes/teasing/sarcasm, repeating the same things over and over, and avoiding eye contact, among other things.
Problems with relating to others may be things like not wanting to be touched/held, having difficulty describing how they're feeling, having trouble connecting with people and making friends, and seeming to be unaware or uninterested in the people around them.
Difficulty with flexible thinking/actions can show up with being upset with any schedule changes (even good ones, like a kid throwing a tantrum because they get to stay up later), having a very rigid routine, needing to have things a certain way, order, and having a preoccupation with a very tight focused topic, often with numbers.
How do I know if I/someone I know has autism?
The best way to find out is go to your doctor and ask them to get tested. Self tests and self diagnosis are only somewhat helpful, and can be skewed. There's also other things it can be that a full screening can find. Self-testing can be a good start, but if you are truly worried, going to a doctor is your best option. Trying to ignore or deny symptoms won't help, and might make things worse later.

What is the difference between 'classic' autism and Asperger's?
Asperger's is a subtype of autism, but with a couple main differences. Like all forms of autism, Asperger's (or Aspies) have issues with socialization, communication, and their behavior range. However...
Are there any famous people with Autism?
Sure! There's Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokemon and the CEO of GameFreak, who is said to have Asperger's in his biography, and has talked about it during interviews. Dan Aykroyd has also said in an interview he has Asperger's and his obsession with ghosts and police is what caused him to develop Ghostbusters (there are some who say he was joking about the whole thing, however). Susan Boyle, a Scottish singer, has said she was diagnosed in 2013.
There's also many many others that experts believe have/had autism, like Bill Gates, Alfred Einstein, Robin Williams, HP Lovecraft, and Abraham Lincoln; but in most cases it's not confirmed and suspected because they had a lot of traits/symptoms that would point to being autistic.
A lot of scary stuff is written and told about those of us on the spectrum, but really, we're just people who see and process the world a little differently. So feel free to drop by and say hi, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
