She'd asked who they were waiting for and Azrael had told her simply: "An old friend. She's bringing an ambassador from her clan to stay with us, as your brother has gone to stay with their's." That was why she was so restless. She was burning to know more and meet these new dragons. Unlike her older siblings, Reanne hadn't done much journeying. Especially not any outside the Windswept Plateau. Occasionally a traveller from another clan from another Realm could be found passing through at the Trading Post, but they usually weren't in any mood to stop and talk to a curious youngster like her.

 Nighte went with Xever to the meeting herself. It was the first time she'd left the clan in years, since her friend Jet had been so worried about her nest in Ripcurl. Still, when the offer for an exchange with the Skyborn had come on the wings of a young Imperial named Roan, she had been more than happy to reply in person. It had been a long time since she'd thought of Azrael and the tumult of her years before the founding of the Winterlings. She'd remarked ruefully to Mercor that she was becoming too settled in her ways. "This talk with the Wind dragons should rid us of that," her mate had said, grinning. "If the stories are anything to go by." It had been a long night choosing who would go to represent them; Ramila was called in, of course, since this was nominally her jurisdiction within the clan. Nighte decided against sending her granddaughter, however, saying that it was time her lieutenants stretch their wings. There were three dragons serving in the diplomatic corps, but only one of them was still related to Nighte herself, and seeing as Azrael had sent one of his own sons to stay, she could do no less. Xever was pleased to go, though not as on fire for adventure as a younger dragon would have been. As they swept in to land at the hill shaped like a Longneck's hoof (described in cartographer's detail by Roan) he was calculating how long this exchange would have to be with trepidation rather than excitement. "I greet the child of the Watchful Storm," she said, very formally. "How fares your clan in these long summer days?"

"We're managing." Azrael said with a warm smile. "It's been too long Nighte." He said, inclining his head.

Reanne looked between the two newcomers, staring with no small amount of awe at Nighte.

She'd heard the story of how she'd been responsible for reuniting her parents after they'd been separated when they'd been little older than herself. She couldn't wait to tease Kaneko and Stellanie about getting to meet her.

The resemblance between her and her companion was striking.
While her father was busy greeting the other clan leader, she sauntered over to the other stranger.
"Hi, I'm Reanne. Roan's sister. Who're you?" She asked.

((Ping me when you reply. I'm not getting a notification for some reason.))

"Indeed," Nighte smiled, a rarer expression than she would have liked. "It's good to see you again, Azrael. How's Val? From the courtly manners of your son I'd say you still have a talent for teaching."

Xever nodded and bowed easily at Reanne's introduction. "My name's Xever, I'm Nighte's grandson, on my father's side. If you don't mind me asking, who's idea was it to send Roan? He's good enough at diplomacy, but our clan hasn't had a lot of outside contact that we didn't initiate. I'd like to learn how other dragons do things."

He sounded genuinely interested, but it was clear they hadn't hit on any topic too dear to his heart. He watched the clan leaders with one eye, smiling at Reanne all the while.

@Winterling:

"Val sends her regrets that she couldn't come and greet you herself, but someone had to make sure things ran smoothly." Azrael replied. "She's well. These last few years... I'm the luckiest dragon on Sornieth and I owe it all to you, Nighte." He added.

"Nice to meet you." Reanne said. "Roan went because my big sister, Stellanie is our librarian and isn't easily pried from her scrolls and books, and even then not for long, my brother Kaneko is off wandering, and Father knows, where Kaneko goes, Elsie does and that it would be wiser not to send them." She explained. "That left Roan and I, and Roan's travelled." She added demurely, with a touch of bitterness.

She never got to go anywhere. Just because she'd hatched after Roan, Mother and Father babied her embarrassingly.

Nighte shook her head, grinning a little as she looped her tail around her feet in a comfortable gesture. "I can hardly claim credit, when it was you who helped me," she said. "And I know how hard it is to get away from everything that needs doing, but you should visit the Southern Icefields some time. We're living in one of the Fortress spires now, and it's a truly breathtaking place, if I do say so myself. All impossible without your help, and the help of your friends."

"Well, there's only so many dragons in the Winterlings that do a lot of traveling, and a lot of those are gatherers. Mostly we keep close to home. It's nice to sleep in your own nest and be with your own family and know where to go to get food every day." Xever points out all of the reasons he prefers the Winterling lair, but he doesn't expect Reanne to share his opinion, not really. She is a Wind dragon, after all. "I think it's a matter of where you're going, rather than the travel itself."

@Winterling:

"My, the Fortress of Ends?" Azrael said, impressed. "I had a few jobs to find and rescue careless adventurers from there on occasion," he recounted. "I was too busy searching for the ones I was to rescue to admire the scenery, but I do recall it being quite beautiful. Kiyo spoke highly of it when she attended the festivities during the Gala just past as well." He added. "Perhaps I shall visit, once my eldest has settled down enough to be left in charge of things. Our own home is much more humble. You remember the mesa caves we stayed in on our way to Brudigan's clan? Val and I have made our clan's home there."

"But there's so much out there to see!" Reanne exclaimed. "Our lair isn't going anywhere, and you can only wander around the plateau so much before it gets boring." She added. "I want to go on an adventure and see the world, but mother and father treat me like I'm just hatched."

Azrael glanced around at his daughter's outburst.

"And we'll continue to until you've learned the value of patience." He said patiently. "Travelling is all well and good but doing so without running into difficulty takes a degree of forethought you have yet to demonstrate to your mother or myself." He added.

Nighte glanced over at the younger dragons and chuckled. "Ah, patience. If it's patience you're looking to teach, I've brought the right dragon. Xever is the very model of Winterling patience."

Her grandson curled his talons in embarrassment at the compliment, so rarely given, shaking out his wings and coughing. "Hrm, well. If you like. Its hardly something you can teach a dragon though," he argued, but very quietly.

"That I leave up to you," Nighte told him, still amused. Glancing back at Azrael she said, "I think I might stay the night, if it wouldn't inconvenience you. It's a long flight back to the Icefields, and dangerous to do in the dark, even for me."

"No trouble at all." Azrael replied. "A few of those who helped break Smoke's clan are currently in residence, though Fereon is currently at Dragonhome on business for his birth clan." He added. "Val will be delighted to see you again as well, I'm sure."

Reanne hung her head at the pair of clan leaders.

That was as good as an order to her to keep Xever amused. Which meant she'd have even less time to try and prove herself to her parents so they'd stop babying her.

@The13Inquisitor (sorry i forgot to ping you!)

Nighte sighed and stretched out her wings, shivering her shoulders to loosen tired muscles. "I'd like to speak to her. We never really had a chance to get to know each other, between the aftermath and the hatchling." She swept one arm out, gesturing for Azrael to take the lead. Behind her, Xever watched Reanne with a crooked smile and twitched his whiskers while he thought.

If nothing else, he could tell that Reanne was a dragon looking for trouble. And in the interest of 'fostering closer bonds' he couldn't think of a single reason not to help.
