It was Lewis's first day in high school, and he was already wanting to leave. He had expected people to change from eighth grade and mature, but nope. Nobody had changed. They were still the same cliché people they had always been. Judgmental, obnoxious, and definitely rude. To them, Lewis was "emo" because he was different. Lewis passed a group of popular kids talking about girls and guys while saying "like" in every sentence. He let out a sigh, shaking his head. Apparently, someone noticed and called, "Hey, you! Emo! Got a problem?" Lewis wasn't "emo." He tried to ignore, and kept walking. Either way, he would've been slammed against a locker and antagonized.

Maia had only been inside the school for 15 minutes, and she already had one panic attack. Whenever she walked by everyone would stop and just stare at her. She already heard some people whispering some stupid lies. Last year she was known more as one of the quiet popular's. She was the shy girl everyone tried to talk to mostly because of they all thought of her shyness as "cute". She already knew this year was going to be different, and not only because her hair was now dyed. During the summer there was a large accident, but no one was told what happened. Even though last year Miai was shy she would talk to those she knew, but since the accident she hadn't spoke a word to anyone other than her brother. She was scared that someone was going to chase her down the hallway like they did over the summer, but no one seemed to try. As she keep walking she heard one of the popular's call out to another kid. She quickly turned to face the popular kid, and had her hand closed. She wasn't going to hit the kid, but she was sure she could scare them. She tapped her fingernails against her glove which made a clinking sound. This noise was cause by metal in her gloves. She hoped the kid would realize that if she did decide to punch them it would hurt, even if she didn't punch hard.

"Please, don't," Lewis said shyly. His sleeve was forced up roughly by a friend of the bully. Lewis whined in pain and his face immediately turned red in embarrassment. He wanted to cry. His cuts were exposed. "St-stop it.."
"SO, IT'S TRUUEE," a girl said. Lewis jerked his arm away, pulling his sleeve up. He tried to get away, but his books were knocked out of his arm. "WHERE YA GOING, KID?"
Lewis had enough. Tears filled his eyes. "HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT?!" he screamed back, pushing. He knew he was in for a beating, but he was through.

Miai wasn't sure what to do anymore she was getting very frustrated. She took a deep breath and looked at the group of people. "EVERYONE STOP It." She yelled angrily. She pushed everyone out of her way then grabbed Lewis' hand, then took off running. Maia didn't look behind her, and she knew that he Lewis probably was having a hard time keeping up, but she didn't know what she was supposed to do. She ran down a bunch of different hallways until finally she ran into a empty and unused classroom.
She let go of the kids hand, and walked over to a corner in the room. She sat down and before she knew it the empty room had changed into street in the middle of the night. Her eyes was locked on her hands which both was badly burnt and one cut from a piece of metal. She turned her head to see her older brother on the phone panicking. "Why didn't you let me save them Kiono?" She said, tears streaming down her face.
As soon as she said that she snapped back into reality. She was staring at the gloves on her hands and crying. 'I just said that out loud...' She thought, wiping the tears. "You didn't hear or see anything. Nothing happened that was just a... day dream, yeah." She said, pushing herself up off the ground, then started walking towards the door

"U-Uh, thank you!" Lewis said shyly, hitting his floppy sleeves together. He tried to smile, but made a weird face instead. Lewis quickly realized what he did, and looked down with a red face. "I coul-could've handled that.. but thanks." He headed towards the door. "I need to get my books.. but.. I don't know my way around very well."

"No problem." Maia replied, turning around to look at Lewis. She watched as he tried to smile, and shook her head. "Smiles are like lies no one tries to see through, but if you smile like that no one will believe it anyway." She said, faking a smile one that she had been practicing forever. "You're welcome." She replied. She looked at her hands one more time to make sure she did actually have on her gloves. "I'll go with you my first class is that way anyways."

Lewis nodded quickly, following Maia out of the door. "My.. parents never take me to the tours or anything.. so.. it's not my fault." He sighed. "But.. I don't want to talk about them." He avoided eye contact the whole time. "An-anyway.. I'm Lewis.." Lewis finally made eye contact. He immediately felt like he knew her. His head hurt. Lewis kept his pain to himself and looked away. Maia..?

"I mean I don't really see how that has to do with anything. I had to teach myself to smile again so I don't worry my brother." Maia said. She nodded her head, although she knew their situations were most likely different she didn't want to talk about her parents either. "O-oh, i'm Maia." She replied, remembering she was in the hallway. She was sure if anyone heard her talk they would surround her probably with the hope that the old Maia was back.

Lewis was starting to get a horrible migraine. He put his hand against the lockers as his vision blurred. "I don't... feel well.." Lewis lowered himself to the floor and dipped his head. "Oww," he groaned, holding his head.
