It had been too long, in his opinion, and he was starting to get restless. His father called it withdrawl, but he begged to differ. Once you got a single taste of adventure, of adrenaline pumping through your veins as you descended into the unknown, and the deeply rooted satisfaction when you finally found what you spent weeks, maybe even months, of searching, it changes you, makes it hard to go back to a regular, boring life of sitting around the lair all day. He paced back and forth in his den, trying to dispel his boredom. He had already finished what few duties he had been assigned in record time, and was now left with more free time then he knew what to do with. "Maybe a book will help." he said to himself, pivoting and making his way out he door of his room and toward the archive in the back of lair, following the path on memory and not really thinking about where he was going until he got there. Once in the archive, he made his way to the back, where the oldest entries and earlies finds were kept. He could here the sounds of wepeons clashing through the walls from the war room on the other side, no doubt that was where his sister was, watching Undyne fight whomever. He let out a small sigh as he ran his gaze across the various scrolls and books that occupied the alcoves. "She never learns, does she?" he asked the empty archive, reaching up to grab some parchment at random when he saw a movement out the corner of his eye. He slowly turned, scanning the room for the source of the movement. He hadn't seen anyone when he walked in, but that didn't mean much, he had been distracted, they could've slipped past him. When he saw nothing of note, he shrugged it off and turned back to find a stack of very old papers lying, face up in plain view, with markings and calligraphy he hadn't ever seen before. He stood there for a moment, dumbstruck. There was no way he could've missed those before. Once he recovered his wits, he grabbed the stack without a second thought, putting them down and spreading them out on a nearby table. @Schattenfeuer ((Can you work with this? They sure were deadly and fast and so, so talented. It looked like a dance, a dance to the very death. Gruesome but so poetic, it made Calpernia sigh all over again. The blue feathers on the sides of her head fanned a bit up, when the huge, blue Imperial managed to win over their opponent, throwing them off balance with ease. Clapping cheerfully to the winner of the play battle, Calpernia grinned widely, all but blushed when she gained a bit of the Imperials attention. “That was amazing, Undyne!”, Calpernia sounded somewhat breathless, as if she had run for miles and miles just to get to this point, which she had not. Not at all. All she had done before rushing to the arena, was standing in front of the mirror in her small den, adjusting the sky blue silks that now adored her wings and neck. She would get her chance, one time she would, no matter what her brother or her friends said, this was not some silly, first crush, this was serious! Calpernia still had to work up the courage to talk longer to Undyne than two sentences tho. Everytime she had worked up enough courage to approach the other female, she gained a good start which she totally destroyed the longer she went on. Mostly because Calpernia tended to get lost in the others eyes. Just like in those sappy romance novels she loved to read. Nathan was still making fun out of her for this. “You're so fast and when you got them like this and then, then...” And here it was, the moment she lost her courage and turned into a babbling excuse of a dragon. It was ridiculous considering who her mother was. And then again, completely understandable when looking at her father. They were both strong personalities, no doubt about that, still are, thank the eleven gods for that, but … “Ah, I...I think I...uh… Nathan probably needs me for one of his...uh...ideas...yes, that's it...see you around!”, and with that, Calpernia run off, face heated and shame laying heavy in her stomach like the one time she had tried uncle papyrus' pasta. This time Undyne didn't even had to say something, all she had to do was look at her and Calpernia turned into a purple scaled puddle of a skydancer. But she hadn't lied with everything just to get out of this situation. Her scales were itching, the special way they only did when Nathan had cooked up yet another of his brain fried plans. She just knew it and therefor wasn't at all surprised to find her fluffy excuse of a brother bent over whatever script, book, writing he had found again, studying it with such vigor, she feared he might pull a mental muscle. She sneaked up to him, tried to look over Nathans shoulder but the writing made little sense to her. “Didn't you remember the trouble we got into last time you found some ancient writing?” @Comic1sans (does that answer your question? also, i'm suscribed)

"Ah!" Nathan said, slightly startled by his sister's sudden appearance, though, his expression quickly changed from one of surprise to a genuine smile that made him look a lot younger then he actually was. "Dear sister. What do you take me for? Of course I remember. We found this little metal box full of tiny metal discs, it was awesome. But that doesn't matter, take a look at this."

He tapped the nearest piece of parchment, the one he had been scrutinizing before Calpernia showed herself. "Look at these characters! They're ancient! from what I can tell, they date back to the end of the Second Age! Isn't that amazing! And these notes!" He gestured to the various bits of parchment that were scattered around the table, some had writing that was draconic, while others had strange symbols that seemed familiar, but he hadn't been able to work out why, while some had a mixture of both languages, and others still contained all three.. "To think it has just been sitting here, for who knows how long, it blows my mind."

"How is undyne, by the way?" he added quickly, turning to observe his sister's expression with a coy smile on his face.

“Good! Why are you asking!”, Calpernia was not good at lying, her high pitched voice and her words tumbling out of her mouth way to fast to be believable betrayed her, even more than her fluttering feather fans and the jerky twitch of her tail. She tried to remain angry, since Nathan was clearly not even thinking about giving up finding whatever treasure he thought he had discovered this time, but his coy smile unnerved her. In the end, Calpernia had to look away, scratching her neck to keep herself grounded. “She was...too busy for me to talk to her. But lets not get lost on those details, you are the one trying to sneak away again.”

And just like this, Calpernia tapped one of her claws onto the old parchment, on the symbols that were vaguely familiar to her but weren't at the same time. Strange things happened all the time, it was kinda normal for her.
“You don't even know what that is and the last thing you fund was not even functional!”, she tried to argue with him, because she was a good sister and had to look out for her foolish baby of a brother. “Mom is going to have a breakdown when she would catch wind of this.”

"Very busy, I am sure." Nathan said with an small chuckle. He felt kind of bad for his sister regarding her hopeless infatuation with the general. He had witnessed her cry herself to sleep on multiple occasions, sobbing about this or that, but it always had something to do with Undyne, or lack thereof. He decided not to push his luck with the teasing though, there were more interesting matters to talk about.

It was Nathan's turn to be flustered. "I wouldn't call it sneaking." he said, scratching the back of his neck as he tried to form a counter-argument. "More like...taking a small vacation...without telling anyone." Before his sister could protest, he pulled out a map that was stashed under the table and rolled it out beside the various pieces of parchment. "Who care's if it was functional or not." he said as he scrutinized the map. "It was the very fact that we found it that made it worth it. Now, from what little I can read off the text, there is a ruin somewhere under he starfall isles, but i can't find anything past that."

“No. Oh no!”, Calpernia shook her head so forceful, the pale outlines of the ice wardens frigid emblem blurred together, as the rune tried to remain floating in front of her forehead. Pulling the map gently but determined out of her brothers claws, she carefully rolled it back together, holding it just out of reach for Nathan. “Thats the other side of the country, do you really think Mom and Dad won't realize what happened before we even crossed the sea of thousand currents.”

Flinging the map slightly at Nathans head and missing him by miles, Calpernia shot him a sullen glare, before explaining to him in painfully length and detail on how many levels his idea would fail, how they would starve or drown or get struck by lightning, all in all, how they would die an untimely death because of Nathans insatiable curiosity. Halfway through her monologue, Calpernia realized, that Nathan had turned away instead of listening to her, starting to scribble down all the things he deemed useful for this hell of a trip.

“Were you even trying to listen to me?!”, she shrieked at him, before staring at the note, snorting in unwanted laughter at Nathans list of things. “You know what, here is your map, I gather the supplies and you better start to think of a very good excuse to get out of here unnoticed.”

Pulling his note out of his claws, Calpernia shook her head, again, before turning towards their dens, picking up their satchels and sneaking into the chamber in which all the food was stored. Taking extra care to only pick things that were there plentiful and would not decay on a long journey, Calpernia put together an impressive amount of food for the two of them to at least not starve to death. Since she knew Nathan inside out, he would need her help rather sooner than later.

"I knew she would come around." He said with a smile as Calpernia stormed out of the room with his list clutched in her claw. He yawned, stretching as he rolled the map back out. "Now I only have to find a way to keep Mom and Dad off our tails."

He sat there, looking between the various notes and the map while his mind worked in overdrive. "I can't simply tell them outright." he said to himself, thinking out loud. "There was no way in hell that mom would let us go cross-country alone, Dad I might be able to convince, given enough time, but Mom would put us under lock and key in order to stop us. Maybe....if we weren't going alone." A smile spread slowly spread across his face. "We aren't sneaking out. We are going on a gathering expedition. Simply making a few pit stops along the way."

He quickly racked his brain to think of a way he could propose it as to not arouse any suspicion from his Mom. He would have to propose the idea to the council, which two of his grandparents were on. Both of them would see right through him no matter how he worded it. It was his mother he had to fool.

"Cakewalk."

Calperina was skilled in sneaking in and out of places she should not be. Not because she had some sinister intentions or skills that would be better fitting for an assassin, a knife in the dark, but because she knew her people. She was swift and light footed, had always been since the moment she hatched, which was one of the main reasons why her parents scratched together every gem they could find in order to make her body fitting for her soul, she was born to dance and being a tundra was not prospering for a soul like hers. She felt as if her furred body had been to heavy for her, her wings not strong enough to work out the delicate flight patterns she performed now with stunning ease.

However, what thought she might had been chasing, she all but stopped dead in her tracks, when she heard the thundering voice of her mother farther down the hallway. Sure, Aiea was not in sight and hadn't even realized her child was close, but Calpernia wasn't going to take any chances in making her mother suspicious. So, instead of returning to the library with two satchels filled to the brim with food, Calpernia sneaked back into her brothers den, turning her nose up at the chaos Nathan allowed to rule over his personal space. Books, notes, pieces of jewelry, everything was one messy heap on the floor.

Hopefully, Nathan would have a good idea on getting them out. There was no way in the shade that they could walk out of here without the council permitting them to leave. Oh the woes of being one of the youngest members of the Rune. And being the children of two well known individuals.

It didn't take long for Nathan figure out what hoops he would need to jump through to get clearance for his little "Outing." He knew every rule and regulation that the council ever set up by heart, you had to if you wanted to know how far you could go without getting into trouble. After he worked out all the loopholes and exploits, he devoted a few minutes to committing the various characters that were scribbled across the notes and texts into memory.

When he was sure he wouldn't forget them, and could replicate them on a separate piece of parchment without aid, he removed a random book from the nearby shelf and began carefully placing the various writings between the pages. That would disguise them and he could pass it off as basic reading material if he ran into his mother.

"Now comes the hard part." he said to himself as he returned the map to it's proper place and proceeded towards the door. He stopped before stepping into the main hallway, listening close for any sign of anyone that would bring him unwanted attention, tensing when he heard the voice of his mother echo down the corridor, slowly getting louder as the guardian inched closer.

Nathan took a deep breath before making a beeline for his den, slipping inside and easing the door shut just as he saw his mother's shadow peek out from around the corner. Letting out a sigh of relief, he pivoted, making his way across the room to where a carving knife and a set of unfinished pipes lay on his desk.

"Ok, sis, here is what we are going to do." he said, picking up the knife and twirling it between his fingers as he turned towards Calperina, unable to stop himself from grinning. "We are making a team and are going on a gathering expedition. We won't be lying, we will just be omitting parts of the truth. No harm, no fowl."

"Put that knife down before you cut off your claws. Again.", maybe Calpernia over reacted a bit, but she really didn't liked it one bit when her brother started to twirl that knife in his claw as if it was the most harmless toy in the world. That thing had a wicked sharp blade and she remembered the last time Nathan had lost his grip on it for only a second. The cut over the palm of his claw had bleed so strongly, that Calpernia had dragged him by his ear into Toriels den, because she was scared he might had hit something Important. Thankfully for her nerves, Nathan did stop twirling the weapon, which let her breathe a little lighter. "So. What you want to do?"

Sure, Nathan could most likely talk a greedy man out of his last coin, but they were talking about the council in which both of their grandparents had a seat. They would look right through any lie and if they felt insulted, they would let this blow up right into Nathans and there for Calpernias faces by telling their mother about all this. And gods helped them if Aiea ever got Wind of this while they were within her reach.

"I really don't know if that's such a good idea... What if grandfather feels insulted and tells all of this to mom... She would flip tables and then ground us for the rest of our natural lives", she couldn't contain the nervous twitching of her tail, no matter how much Calpernia tried to remain still and graceful, when nervous she turned into a twitching, shivering wreck. Much like when she was confronted with Undyne. "I really don't know if that's such a good idea"

As if summoned by Calpernias mood, someone knocked and given the force and smell of oozone creeping into the room, it could only be one person.
"Nathan, have you seen your sister?", Aiea called out from before the door, not opening because even someone as thick headed as she had learned that it was better to not open and step into the mess Nathan called a home. The last time, Aiea had stepped on and crushed an ancient artifact under her heel without even realizing it, causing Nathan to almost having a melt down. "Undyne told me she was not feeling so high earlier"

Calpernia became stiff by hearing her mothers words, her eyes open, round and her whole expression terrifyied. Shaking her head and making Hand gestures towards the door, in the vague hope Nathan would decipher those as 'i am not here, sent her away ' it was meant to be. If Aiea came in now, even she would be able to put two and two together.
