@Okie
Hey!
Just for some background, I'll give a brief summary here, but if you click the link in my sig that says "Chronicles" you can get my full lore. Pretty much, there's the main clan that lives in the city and every other ground are referred to as 'forest dwellers'. Ares is part of a group of forest dwellers known as the 'Wanderers'. They highly value beauty and power. He is the head guard for the group, so he protects all the members, but especially the leader and her priest. He only joined the group, because the leader found him out on the streets and told him her story of how royalty betrayed her too.
That's the long story short. If you wanna know why he hates royalty, check out my dragon Solis' bio. It's not done yet. Right now it seems where I've written it seems like he loves royalty, but it will end poorly.
Anyways, this is the thread and I'm subbed so there's no need to ping me.
Oh and if I make references about my lore that you don't quite understand I'll try to put some sort of footnote about it. The asterisks are footnotes ******
Ares was curled up in a bed of roses in the middle of a small clearing. He could feel the poison seeping through his scales and entering his bloodstream*. He shifted uncomfortably as pain radiated through his body. He sucked in a deep breath and ignored the pain. The Wanderers were working on building up a tolerance to the poison and Ares was determined to be the first. It had been a hard task, but according to the data that the spirits** stole from the library, he was on the last step. He absentmindedly fiddled with the beads wrapped around his thigh. His mind flashed back to when he got it and the man who gave it to him.
Ares recalled receiving a simple brown package with a red ribbon. A simple note was attached. "Ares, I saw this and thought of you. With love, Valencia." He smiled, remembering the mystery man in the garden. Ares only met him once, but it was enough. Or at least, it was then. The man had to be royalty. There was no way someone that beautiful couldn't be. That meant that Ares couldn't think of him anymore. He had decided that he was done with royalty. He had already had his heart broken once. No, not just his heart. That prince had left scars and hurt him in a way that not even the roses could.
Despite not wanting to think of Valencia again, the thoughts returned. Ares could see his face so clearly in his mind, as though they had met yesterday and not many years ago. Ares sighed. He wished so deeply that he could see that man again, but he couldn't. There was no way he could. Royalty. He could never again be with royalty.
Ares pushed up from the bed of roses and walked into the woods. Epione and Paean were sparring, Paean using magic and Epione seemingly using nothing***. Paean stopped sparring with his wife and turned to Ares.
"Why so down? Are the roses finally going to kill you?" A mischievous smile slipped onto Paean's face.
"Don't kid yourself. The roses can't effect me anymore." Ares pushed past Paean and flopped down on a large stump.
"They why do you look so sad?" Paean walked up to Ares, his tiny size seemed even smaller compared to the large imperial.
"It's nothing."
"Liar."
"I don't want to talk about it." Ares growled at the wildclaw, even as a light blush tinged his cheeks. The very ground seemed to shake.
"Are you sure? Those flushed cheeks tell me different."
"Go away Paean."
Epione tilted her hat back and stared at Ares. "So who's your secret lover?" Her voice held no playfulness or fluctuation. It remained monotone.
"Epione! Don't you dare use your spirits against me!" Ares got up from the stump and turned to flee the two pestering wildclaws.
"Venandari**** told me about Valencia. I think you should send a messenger. What's the worst that could happen?" Epione made no effort to get closer to the raging imperial.
"He's roya-"
"Wrong. You think he's royalty, but you never actually followed up. That makes you the fool, so perhaps you should contact this man before you forget about him entirely and die alone and bitter because of what a prince did to you." Epione scoffed at Ares. "I'll get Fera***** to send a message for you."
A letter was delivered to Valencia's home, delivered by an Umbra wolf. The wolf made sure the note got to Valencia before dissipating into nothingness. The note read:
"Valencia,
I don't know if you remember me, but we met a few years ago. It was on the palace grounds in the garden. I flirted with you and later you sent me a leg band that I still wear to this day. I was afraid to talk with you again, because I had a boyfriend and then my boyfriend went crazy and tried to kill me. It just so happens that he was a prince and I thought you were too. Lucky for me, my very good friend convinced me to write this correspondence to you. I hope you will meet me on the Sea of a Thousand Currents. I have a small boat that would like to meet you on.
Ares"
Ares snarled at Paean. "Don't you think that's too much information? Did you really have to mention Sol-.... him?"
"Whatever Ares. You'll be thanking me soon. Now, you had better find a boat and get out to the sea for your date."
"I hate you."

*The roses in the wood contain a highly potent poison that eats away at the flesh of a dragon. Just brushing against the petals could lead to death within two days.
**The spirits are another type of forest dwellers. They walk on the spiritual plane, so most mortals cannot see them. They are immortal and each have their own domain. Two of them love to cause mischief, so they don't mind stealing from the clan.
***Epione can walk the spiritual plane. She uses the spirits to help her fight.
****Venandari is one of the spirits. His domain is beauty and love, but he also loves nature.
*****Fera is another spirit. His domain is animals. That's why the message was sent by a wolf.
