OOC THREAD -- rules, roles, sign-ups, etc.

This thread is for in character discussion only. Please direct all OOC questions and discussion to the OOC thread.

Somehow, this hotel on the edge of the Tangled Woods manages to be both goth and gaudy. The trim may feature a skull and bones motif, but those skulls and bones are encrusted with diamonds, and the black walls shine like mirrors (funhouse mirrors: any dragon trying to glimpse their reflection in them would find it oddly distorted). A flashing neon sign over the entrance reads “FRIP’S CASINO,” and under that, picked out in diamonds, “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.”

The dragons who enter this place are not deceived. They know they will probably die. In this casino, one bets with one's life -- but the prizes accrue to one’s immortal soul.

DAY 1 Only the dragons themselves know whether they've truly heeded that warning, as they pass under the "Abandon hope" sign and enter Frip's Casino. Frip herself waits for them inside, smiling broadly. The lobby, a large, almost cavernous room, continues the gaudy goth theme from outside, all bone motif and black crystal. A few chairs and tables, all appropriate for the decor, sit grouped around the lobby, perfect for dragons to sit and chat -- each group contains furniture in many sizes, suitable for everything from fae to imperials. "You, my friends, have the honor of being the first guests here at my casino ... which makes me Frip, of course. Now, we all know how this works, yes? By entering these doors, you have bet your lives. Forfeited them, really, for the subject of our little gamble is not whether you will survive but how long you will stay alive, and how well you acquit yourself doing so. "I have your roles for you here." Frip gestures to a long counter at the back of the lobby, where fifteen sealed envelopes sit, each marked with the name of a dragon present. Behind the counter is a large board that lists active roles and the graveyard. "Some of you will find that you have been assigned the roles of Hunters. I believe we have four among our current company. As Hunters, you are tasked with killing the rest of the casino's guests. The rest of you must try and discern who is a Hunter and who is not. Not by peeking at each other's roles here, though -- you'll notice that the cards appear blank to any dragon but the owner. "What else? Quarters in the west wing, to your right; game rooms in the east, to the left. Feel free to take today to explore the casino, and let me know if you have any questions. The first deaths will be tonight." ----- Info: - Welcome to the first day of Frip's Casino! - Roles will be sent out presently. We have a wide variety of games set up ... although you realize, of course, that our primary game is the one you're playing right now." Frip chuckles, then turns and opens the elaborately-decorated door to the east wing, leading Caim into a hallway. In this hallway, the left wall is all shining mirrors, while the right wall's made of glittering crystal, creating a confusion of lights and decorations. A few doors lead off to the right, though they're hard to notice, as they're nearly flush with the wall and their handles are inlaid into the surface itself. Much more prominent is the large door at the end of the hall: also black crystal, and carved with a highly detailed scene of what might be called a danse macabre. It shows skeletons, liches, emperors, and other undead frolicking in a graveyard. Frip throws this door open to reveal a large game room, slightly less dark in theme than the rest of the building, though not that much: the carpet under foot is soft, but still carries a design of black roses and their thorny vines. This room contains two rows of slot machines, as well as several poker tables, roulette wheels, and other, less easily-identifiable gambling equipment. However, the highlight of the room is clearly a dias in the center, where a pearlcatcher sits on an elaborate golden pillow, a series of parchment cards laid out before him. @V88

The casino's lobby is well-decorated but largely unremarkable. Two large doors lead off to the left and right -- the left one being where Frip and a few other guests have gone -- while a couple more doors in the back appear to be sealed tight. In the back of the room sits the counter with the envelopes ... except the envelopes are no longer there. On further investigation Star might find that the envelope with her name on it is now in her own claw, even if she didn't pick it up. Other dragons' envelopes have also mysteriously found their way into their personal possession.

Behind the counter, the board has changed to list which roles are active and which remain in the graveyard, though no one has touched it.

Yes, the games were intriguing, but she was more intrigued by the doors that seemed to blend into the walls on the right. Not in the game room, but certainly things that appeared hidden were more interesting to her than the Danse Macabre doors before her. Whatever could be behind these inlaid doors with their nearly invisible handles? Curious, she walks over to the one closest to her and tries to open it. She must write this down, but first she had to see whatever she'd be writing about. ((Let's check out those hallway doors, shall we? Also, I'm subscribed to the thread.))
